Things You Didn't Notice In Star Trek Until Years Later

I wanted to start a thread about things that you discovered in Star Trek years after they were introduced that you never realized before. I'd be curious to see what people might say.

For instance, it was years before I noticed Betazoids have black eyes. It wasn't until I saw Ensign Lon Suder on Star Trek: Voyager "Meld" that I caught on to that little tidbit. It was very effective in that case since he was basically a sociopath. The black eyes added a bit of extra creepiness (plus actor Brad Dourif did an excellent job I thought with his portrayal which added some unease). I have to give some kudos to the director as well. The angles were well done to highlight the black eyes, perhaps in some way to signify the evil that was within Suder. Black eyes can be unsettling.

Now I look back and see other Betazoids like Deanna Troi and Lwaxana Troi and realize that was always there. But for whatever reason it wasn't until I saw Suder that I picked up on it.

Denise Crosby waving "toodles" at the end of "Symbiosis" was something I didn't spot for years...

I didn't know until it was mentioned on the DVDs that in TOS the Type 2 phaser is just a Type 1 attached to a pistol casing, and that the Type 1 portion is removable. And once I learned that, I noticed a glaring plot hole in Space Seed when Khan destroys Kirk's Type 2 with his hands, the Type 1 portion is still perfectly intact. Yet, Kirk doesn't bother with it anyway.

Supposedly the Enterprise D has a bathroom on the bridge, the door to it is in the same alcove as the door to the briefing room. In TBOBW a man and a woman both walk out of it at the same time. Enlightened 24th century, I guess?

The "hidden in plain sight nudity" covered in that tacky and hopefully not carcinogenic "holiday snow... in a can!" from "The Naked Now". The blu-rays help a lot more than puberty ever could, donchaknow... interestingly, the males get a bit more prominence, especially considering antediluvian standards circa 1987, though rest assured that all the good bits are still covered by the clever crossing of legs and angles more than anything else. So maybe the snow is carcinogenic.

Remember, if you are ever dying from exposure to messed-up climate controls, and you are a woman, to give yourself a one-arm handbra.

If you allow everything between that door and the Emergency Bridge Lift to be devoted to the bathroom, you could conceivably have two privacy stalls and a two sink vanity.
Similar to what you see on blueprints page 4 here.

Who would have guessed the guy who played Chucky was the killer. It was such a shock. :)

Once the TNG movies made it to blu-ray I started noticing that, hey, the whole damn Enterprise is made of wood!

As a kid, it took me a few years to catch on to the fact that the TNG crew wears a different outfit from DS9, because the black and red was the same, just inverted.

1.That the transporter got updated in Enterprise. It looks different in S4, compared to its look in S1-3.

2. Ro Laren having similar behaviours of Pah-wraiths cultists (earing on left ear, wears a red band, never mentions the Prophets.)

It was a while before I noticed the panels on the side of the Enterprise-D bridge looked different in later seasons. Also, it was a long time before I realized in season 3 the non-main characters of the ship were still wearing the old season 1-2 uniforms. Only the main characters had the new style with the collar. By season 4 everyone started wearing the new style (though the non-mains usually had a zipper down the front).

This did cause just a bit of a continuity error for "The Best of Both Worlds" because in part 1 the background characters had the old season 1-2 uniforms while in part 2 everyone had a newer uniform. There's probably ways to explain that away....and it's admittedly minor, probably not something most would notice.
