Things to see and do in the American South?

Yea, its a catch-22, PLUS the makeover it got in 1990 isnt even payed for yet!
My thoughts are it should be brought up to code, and used as a stadium, and this year would have been great, with the 40 year anniversary of the Astros, I think it woulda been nice to use the dome with the throwback uni's for a home game, but thats just me....
I mean, how cool would it be to say to someone "Yea, I live in The Dome."?

I've also heard about a proposal to turn the Dome into a science museum. That sounds like the best idea yet. This place would make one hell of a plane'arium!

We did Gettysburg on a previous trip more centered on the north. That trip went from Phoenix to Dodge City to Kansas City to Chicago to Niagara Falls to Cooperstown to New York City to Gettysburg to Pittsburgh to St. Louis to Dallas to San Antonio to Roswell and back.

Pardon, but... San Antonio, Dallas, Phoenix, Dodge City, Roswell as "the north"? Especially Dallas?
I think the idea is that, given a starting point in Phoenix, a road trip could easily pass through Roswell, San Antonio, Dallas, Dodge City, Kansas City, etc. on the way to parts generally more northeasterly.

Precisely. While Dallas, San Antonio, & Roswell are all pretty far south, when we were east of the Mississippi, we never went south of St. Louis. The main goal of that trip was Chicago & New York. The rest was just kinda stuff that's on the way when you're coming from Phoenix.

what to do down south?

whip out your "girls" on jerry springer

Nope. Sorry. Jerry Springer is actually taped in Stamford, CT.;)

Carlsbad Caverns is in New Mexico...juuuuust a bit west of "the South." By a few states. Including Texas.

Again, it may be too far west to be the proper "South" but it's on the way if you're coming from Phoenix.

I went to a conference in South Carolina last week, and they had lunch catered for us both days. Had old fashioned Southern BBQ one day. I couldn't stomach it every day, but it's a nice treat from time to time.

On the campus of Clemson U. Flew in and out of Greenville airport.

Involved with a professional committee that meets there twice a year, so I'll be going back later this year.
