Things I Will Miss About Disco

I'll miss more than shoes of course. I loved all the characters. I was probably one of the few who was surprised by Lorca's origins and found that shift to the mirror universe thrilling. I will really miss the richness Disco brought to the Star Trek Universe and the people in it. I will definitely miss Saru because he is a brilliantly realized character whose growth over the course of series was well-earned. I'm looking forward to S5.

Oh, so much.

  • Tilly, who immediately drew me towards her the moment she appeared, with her honest emotionality, magnetic personality and glorious mane of flame-red hair. Even if it took this silly trans girl four years to realize it was because she subconsciously reminded her of the kind of woman she's always wanted to be deep down. Mary Wiseman's impeccable comedic timing and effortless talent for cringe comedy has always been one of the strongest highlights of this series for me.
  • Michael, whose backstory, personality and way of thinking was intimately familiar to me on a level I've never encountered in Trek before
  • Saru with his unique mindset, his cutely awkward attempts to figure out of his captaining style despite being an understanding and comforting Team Dad all along, his patient and understanding mentorship of Tilly after years of mistaking Stamets being annoyed at her for genuine advice, and his unique platonic romance with President T'Rina
  • The verbal sparring between Stamets and Reno
  • Everything about Linus
  • The unconditional acceptance of queerness in the found family of Paul, Hugh, Adira and Gray, even though the story arcs of the two kids never went anywhere
  • Keyla and Owo, whom I will never stop shipping
  • The possibility, however little, that Prime Lorca is out there somewhere
  • Laira Rillak, who actually IS my president
  • Speaking of what Rillak represents, so many manifestations of acceptance and old rifts being healed in Season 3: Vulcan reunification, Ba'ul and Kelpien living together in harmony, the Trill openly accepting that everyone can be joined, even other species...
  • Season 2's take on the TOS uniforms, even with the goofy metallic red cuff stripes for the redshirts
  • The way the series made me excited to watch Trek every week and made me actually interested in the 23rd century even as someone who grew up considering the Berman era her home

I'm wondering if perhaps the biggest thing I will miss about the show is the risk-taking. I had already loved the new Klingons, the new look and feel of the show, etc. But when we got to Context Is for Kings it really took off for me. The star of the show, our hero, is sullen and disgraced, wearing a prison jumpsuit, hated by all her colleagues, except maybe her hilariously motor-mouthed new roommate. I'd never seen anything like it in Star Trek, and I loved it. I hope for many more new things to come.

she was. A pity she probably won’t be in season 5.
She appears twice in the NYCC teaser trailer, the first is the main cast's toast from the Season 4 finale, the second one is her smiling in a standard sciences division uniform with her new hairstyle (with bangs), which appears to be new footage, or at least I don't remember it from last season. As for whether it's a guest, a recurring or a main character role, who knows.

I'll miss Zora.

And the possibility we'd have gotten to know more of the characters if the show wasn't so plot-driven/Burnham-centric.

I absolutely love the discussion they had about Zora and that whole scene where she, the living ship becomes part of Starfleet as a member. That's how I took that scene to be that Discovery herself is a member of Starfleet.

Star Trek pushing new boundaries. I don't think we'll be getting as much LGBTQ+ representation or "first times" like Tilly's "Fucking cool!" or Klingon bewbs ever again. We'll never get so many cool new looks for ships, aliens and things. It's only going to be the familiar retreaded over and over until it become unprofitable again.
