The unofficial Rock Band thread.

I beat the Endless Setlist 2 on Medium yesterday with 5 stars on each song. It took me 7 hours with a short break every 12th song. While I do feel a sense of accomplishment, I find myself angry at the game design decision to make the Endless Setlist the way it is.

For one thing, it takes up pretty much half a waking day. That's not a good thing either socially or physically. The alternative is to manually break it up with pauses, causing unnecessary power consumption and preventing the use of the TV until it is finished.

Why couldn't they put in a temp save feature? Even real bands seldom play for more than 2 hours in a set without a break, and I've never heard of any band playing for over 6 hours straight. Allowing a save every 20th song would be a nice compromise between stamina and reality.

I don't plan on doing the ES2 on Hard or Expert. As Han Solo said, "No reward is worth this."

I have been wanting to attempt the endless setlist for awhile now, but just haven't. Most of the time it's just me playing though, I double up drums and vocals, which is why I haven't done it yet - I figure it would be more fun with other people playing with me. It's just hard to get anyone motivated to do it, once they see how many songs that are involved, they say forget it. One day I may get the drive to do it, but I doubt it will be anytime soon.

Oh, speaking of Rock Band Network, it appears that if you are in XNA Creator's Club, you get access to the backend.

And here's a free XNA membership if you're a student - https://www.dreamspark.com/default.aspx

Ah, doh, it looks like the trial only lets you deploy games to the 360, not test them. Too bad.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have been wanting to buy a mic stand and do this myself. What's been stopping me though is what do you do when the vocal track has a percussion section, and you're "supposed" to play the mic like a cowbell or tambourine? do you just miss those notes?

I used to do vocals and guitar, and one trick you can do is click your tongue - sometimes the game will be able to pick up the notes you make.

But yeah, the game engine doesn't penalize you if you skip those percussion bits in the vocal line - you just won't get bonus points (which is one of the many problems I have with vocals in Rock Band, but oh well).

Two unrelated items:

1. I just heard that there will be a Pearl Jam Live Rock Band game next year. The fan club members can vote for which versions of the songs they want to appear in the final game. I saw the list of 44 songs on GameFAQs.

2. Are there any unlockables related to number of stars after getting the Endless Setlist? Do I need to improve my four-star sets to five-star sets for any reason?

They announced this a few months ago... Apparently you could listen to the different choices on Rhapsody or some such.

More Hendrix, Satriani, Maiden, Sabbath, Deep Purple, please!

And I know it shall never happen, coz Page dissed music games recently, but Rock Band or GH Led Zeppelin, if ever announced, I would sooo buy it!

Also:

Breaking Benjamin Pack 01
"I Will Not Bow"
"So Cold"
"Diary of Jane"

Individual songs
Just Kait -- "U Suck"
Kula Shaker -- "Hey Dude"
Kula Shaker -- "Knight on the Town"

Playing through the tour and the challenges results in a lot of repeated songs, just like a real band experiences on tour. However, some songs have much more replay value than others.

A couple of great ones:
"Conventional Lover"
"Any Way You Want It"

A couple that fall under the "What Were They Thinking?" category:
"Aqualung"
"Teenage Riot"

If a song is long, it should at least be interesting like "Painkiller."

What are some of your loves and hates of the initial 104 (including free downloads) RB2 tracks?

From the free 20 I liked Prequel to the Sequel (shame that they left half the song off), and the X-Japan song.... aside from that, it's complete horseshit. Special mention goes to 'Authority Zero', who does a shitty imitation of a shitty band to begin with (Offspring) and that Bounce Bounce song... just awful. Oh god, and that Hollywood Undead nu-metal crap is also scraping the bottom of the barrel. Thenewno2 also gets a special mention because they suck and Dhani Harrison is involved.

From the on disc songs winners are:

  1. Megadeth - Peace Sells*
  2. Dream Theater - Panic Attack*
  3. Ratt - Round and Round*
  4. Kansas - Carry on Wayward Son*
  5. Avenged Sevenfold - Almost Easy

  10. Bob Dylan - Tangled Up in Blue
  11. Feeltwood Mac - Go Your Own Way
  12. Duran Duran - Hungry Like the Wolf*
  13. Foo Fighters - Everlong*
  14. Jimmy Eat World - The Middle (kind of lame self esteem lyrics, but it's fun to play and a favorite in a more party-oriented atmosphere)
  15. Motorhead - The Ace of Spades 2008 (though I really really miss the "and don't forget the Joker" line :klingon:)
  16. Nirvana - Drain You
  17. Journey - Anyway You Want It*
  18. Norman Greenbaum - Spirit in the Sky
  19. Pearl Jam - Alive*
  20. The Presidents of the United States of America - Lump
  21. Rise Against - Give it All
  22. Modest Mouse - Float On
  23. Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye
  24. Rush - The Trees (kind of a chore to play through because of length, maybe shouldn't have made the favorites list, but dammit, it IS Rush after all :))
  25. System of a Down - Chop Suey*
  26. Tenacious D - Master Exploder*
  27. The Replacements - Alex Chilton*
  28. The Grateful Dead - Alabama Getaway

  5. The Main Drag - A Jagged Gorgeous Winter
  6. The Sterns - Supreme Girl
  7. That Handsome Devil - Rob the Prez-O-Dent*
  8. Beastie Boys - So Watcha Want* (just so repetitive and no fun to play, I don't hate the actual song but it's not a favorite)
  9. Bikini Kill - Rebel Girl*
  10. Sonic Youth - Teenage Riot (would be ok without the section in the beginning with the woman's beatnik schtick)
  11. The Muffs - Kids in America* (good pop song ruined by The Muffs... isolate the vocal track sometime.... yuck)
  12. The Offspring - Come Out and Play*
  13. L7 - Pretend That We're Dead
  14. Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Where'd You Go*
  15. Lit - My Own Worst Enemy*

  18. Soundgarden - Spoonman (love the band, but this song sucks)
  19. Steely Dan - Bodhitsattva
*denotes extra awesomeness or suckage depending on the list

Everythng else is somewhere in the OK range.
