One trope I really hate in TV shows, and movies is the super hot person that makes people lose their minds just by being in the same room or general area.

For example the super hot guy l who women just drop dead because of their awesomeness when they are in his presence, well not literally dead but they lose all control of their minds and faculties and become a quivering mess, they may as well be a lump of jelly for the reaction that is often portrayed.

I hate that trope. I think the reverse is worse when you have a super hot female and a dude in the same scene and he loses his mind and also becomes a lump of jelly.

Have you any examples? I probably just blank these from memory, but the only one I can think of is Holly the Ship’s computer going to mush when Ace Rimmer spoke to her.

Suppose it happened a bit in Vicar of Dibley.

It might happen with people facing their idols if they are famous but in general no does it happen that much? I've never been around someone that makes me that stupid I lose my self control.

Gladly, I don’t watch Romcoms or teen comedies, but physical attraction and love at first sight is pretty much a staple of those genres.

It's not the part about being immediately attracted to somebody that is the problem, but the cliche of them then falling over themselves and losing the ability to form complete sentences. That kind of writing is lazy and infantile and makes me respect the main characters less.

But if it’s a staple of the genre, and the genre is comedy, then it’s an exagerated character trait and not meant to be taken seriously away.

Unless anyone has an example from a serious drama, it’s a bit like complaining about too many pratfalls in physical comedy.

What's annoying is when we have characters who are supposed to be losers or ugly or somehow undesirable but they are played by actors/actresses who are incredibly good looking with no real effort made to cover the fact. I mean, I get it, the entertainment industry's main purpose is to present good looking people and show them off, but in some cases it gets silly when we see someone who is clearly a perfect 10 but we're supposed to believe they're an unattractive loser.

It's hacky comedy. Cheap easy laughs. The same as having a French guy yell out 'I surrender'.

I've seen many men/women/boys/girls who have. One of the reasons bars ever existed is to lubricate social relations when engaging in that kind of thing. There's a reason they call it liquid courage. You're only human, we get attracted to other humans.

I am not saying I am an unemotional rock. There are some women that do make me go a bit gaga inside but I don't express that gaga outside.

I can count 3 occasions when I have lost my ability to speak properly around a nice woman and those happened in my very early 20s as I looked a lot younger then I do now and somehow it attracted a few older women 2 whom I had very brief flings with, and those same 2 who I lost control of speech around when I first met them. T'was the third one that got away as she found a rich old guy.

British accents always makes people feel more classy and less bimbo or man-bimbo. In comedy they are often the bad guys. That Russo guy from "Karate Kid" made a career on being the perfect 80's asshole. Women versions have faired worst by being limited to just being the object of the male's fantasy or prize. Which never has worked in anything set outside of a high school or college setting where you expect boys to be shallow and immature. Biggest issue has been the lack of female nerd types who also are shown to be as shallow in that same high school or college setting. The older the character gets the more annoying their hottness becomes and then you have women characters often being forced to wear clothes that aren't age appropiate or in settings that don't make sense. I'm sorry but the middle aged Female Lawyer is not going to be showing up in a mini-skirt and showing clevage in court in real life..

The one I think about most would be Heather Locklear from "Melrose Place." The other lady from the show who she didn't get along with as well. Also if I recall "Ally McBeal" wore some pretty short skirts as well if I recall correctly. Also not a lawyer but something that never made since to me in regards to cheerleaders especially with "Glee" and Claire from "Heroes"" or football jocks and the letterman jackets that you get for playing sports is how they are always wearing them all the time. When I went to high school you basically only wore them to school if their was going to be a game that day or maybe a pep rally. I even had a letterman jacket in high school since I played sports and I know I didn't wear as much as you see kids do it on tv. Nobody did.
