The Q Continuum Filming Location (from ST Voyager)

Memory Alpha said:
IThe desert location used to resemble the Q Continuum was actually in Lancaster, California. The roadside building where Quinn takes Janeway, Tuvok and Q is, in reality, a popular filming location known as "Club Ed," named after the area's first caretaker. Both the Q magazine article that Quinn shows Janeway outside the roadside building and the "Never Closes" sign on the building's exterior were designed by scenic artist Wendy Drapanas. The scene that was filmed in the desert resort was entirely done so in a day. Although location shooting was expensive, it was deemed necessary, as the surreal imagery offered an extraordinary insight into the nature of the Q Continuum. Since location shooting was expensive, it doesn't sound like a cost-effective alternative. It was a deliberate stylistic/creative choice.

Too bad they don't say exactly where it's located.

And have the hapless owners of that love shack feel as hot'n'bothered as the people who owned the Brady Bunch house? At least a fence needed for that place wouldn't be as expensive or expensive as the Brady's.

It was certainly a cost-effective alternative to CGI. And a big letdown, of course.

The attempt at metaphorical allegory in using a desert plain to describe the Q's plight... Were there no other directions the Q could go than to bring them down to our level? Q worked because they were so far above it.

Or why the Q would consult humans over assisted suicide - maybe due to Q's misadventures with Picard but TNG and DS9 already did the after school specials on suicide and a lot better. How could VOY top it, other than humanizing the Q?

On the flip side, in not doing that we'd lose out on the double entendre scenes where Q wants to make babies with Janeway and Mulgrew and DeLancie pretty much made it work and be funny, but there should have been a better direction to take the Q and leave the jokes as just silly, sophomoric jokes that Janeway openly admitted they were.
