The Official and Very Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thread

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

I just rewatched part of "Wild Rebels" from Season 2. Joel's love song to Gypsy is one of the best things about that episode, and it's already a great episode long before that host segment gets rolling.

Crow: "Man, you messin' with PRIVATE STOCK!!"

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

And you gotta love it when the bad guy has his offices in the mezzanine of a shopping mall.

I forgot about that! :guffaw: But I have to hand it to the people who made the film--when the MST3K episode of Time Chasers ran apparently they had a party and watched. It's nice that they were able to see the humor in it.

I've had "He triiiiiiied to kill me with a forklift!" floating through my brain all day. I blame all of you. ;)

This thread is giving Torgo some very strong feelings.

Another favorite short of mine:

Last Clear Chance, a 1959 railroad-crossing safety video.

Mike and the bots sure did dark well, Joel often admonished the bots for being dark during shorts/movies, but Mike almost seemed to encourage it. (I suspect this was an extension of the writing process behind-the-scenes. Joel probably didn't like getting too dark even when Mike was around as one of the head writers.)

[yt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Naix-f6KSIg[/yt]

"Never under any circumstances drive with your butt-cheeks."
"Ha-ha. The officer never said anything about not-doing intensely stupid stuff!"

Cop (VO): "That heartbreak that never quite heals..."
Crow: "Like psoriasis."

Some great, great and memorable lines in this one. Probably the guys at their best in the Mike CC era.

Cop talking to teenager with his first driver's license: "...I thought this would be a good time to come by and tell you a few of the facts of life about driving before you get started."
Mike: "You see when a man loves a car very much you recline the seat back; you take the car and..."

Oh, Wild Rebels is an all-time favorite of mine, probably beating out Side Hackers for the best of the biker films.

"Banjo, quit playing yourself!"
"It's Mount Trashmore!"
"I'm in it for the kicks." "Kicks?" (Joel) "It's a cereal, man!"
"They're Wiiiiiiiiiiild Rebels, crunchy fruity rebels..."

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

The Side Hackers is my all-time favorite biker movie from MST3K, but Wild Rebels is hilarious in its own right and Season 2 was pound-for-pound one of the best and funniest years in the show's history.

(When the "hero" gets dropped off at the bar/nightclub. They notice the driver looks sort-of like Tommy Lasorda.)

Servo (as the hero): "Thanks for the ride, Mr. Lasorda."
Joel (as the driver): "Now remember, just one delicious shake in the morning and lunch and then a sensible meal... "
Servo (as the "hero"): "Yeah, thanks for the ride and good luck with the football team or whatever it is you do."

The disappearing guitar in the back of the main character's trailer at the beginning of the movie is also a hoot to watch.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Can you guys recommend some of the best shorts that haven't been mentioned here yet?

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

"Posture Pals," "Johnny At The Fair," "Money Talks" and "Progress Island U.S.A."

You won't regret watching any of them. ;)

Century 21 Calling

:short introduces push-button dialing:
Mike: "And in 30 years there'll still be a surcharge for this feature even though the technology has proliferated everywhere on the planet!"

Assignment: Venezuela

A short that didn't appear in any episode and was intended to be part of a CD-ROM for MST3K that ended up never being produced. It was an extra on one of the DVD releases of the series.

There's also "A Case of Spring Fever," the very last short subject that was riffed on MST3K before the show went off the air (the series had just one or two episodes left to go when this originally aired). It was a hilarious sendoff for the shorts and one of the best and funniest ones that Mike Nelson did.

"Once Upon a Honeymoon"... remember to decorate with PHONES!

Of course, the punchline to "Once Upon a Honeymoon" I can't seem to find ... the parody song they did afterward! :sigh:

Wire rack?

Don't mind if I do.

Re: The Official and Most Rifftastic Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thre

Sometimes life throws me questions or problems I don't have answers for. Fortunately, "which MST3K shorts are good?" is a question I can knowledgeably address.

These are some of my favorites that I can think of right now:

Junior Rodeo Daredevils ("Hey kids, ever read the Oxbow Incident?")

Body Care and Grooming ("Grooming is between you and the Lord God.")

Mr. B Natural (am I the first person to mention this creepy Peter Pan wannabe? "Mr." B Natural is played by Betty Luster, causing the bots to wonder, "Is this Liberace's mom?")

Why Study Industrial Arts (narrator: "...the bright glare of a welder, the sharp whine of a power saw..." Servo: "...the piercing scream of a freshman.")

The Chicken of Tomorrow ("Dedicated to the chickens who lost their lives in the Great Chicken War.")

The Home Economics Story (College girl discussing classes with another college girl: "What are you going to take, Jean?" Joel: "I'm going to take Bob for everything he's got.")

Crow, Servo and Gypsy are not sure what to make of the new "experiment".

A 3D "doodle" featuring 'Bot meshes graciously offered by Alt1701. The .oBJ based freebies can be found at ShareCG, here...

Thanks for posting that, it made my night. Took me right back to the early 90's (and my early 20's).
