Spoilers The Mandalorian | Disney+ | Streaming Nov. 12

I think I remember reading somewhere that one theory is that they are the Whills.
Another thing that I remembered that I liked is the fact that The Client's Stormtroopers' armor was all dirty. That was a nice visual way to show how far the Empire has fallen since Endor and Jakku.

Great first episode.

Weird seeing Horatio Sanz in Star Wars. And Brian Posehn.

This is pretty much exactly what I wanted form a live action SW show. Fantastic special effects. And a surprisingly large amount or good new characters.

Pretty short for a premiere episode, though the fact that another episode is dropping on Friday already makes it not seem so bad. They included just the right amount of mystery and introduction too. Don't overdo it, but still show enough.

And that surprise at the end! Wow, a grand total of zero out of 100 million Star Wars fans predicted that one!

Also surprising to see the end of IG-11, though being a droid and all, perhaps it can be repaired. So we may not have heard the last of Taika. Or perhaps Taika Waititi can show up in a brand new identical model fresh off the assembly line.

Pretty outstanding special FX and location filming. But, so far as story, it did next to nothing for me. I'll catch the next few episodes to see where it goes but I'll need a lot more than what we got here to really spark my interest.

Pretty much straight up spaghetti western for the opener, even had a Gatling gun sequence. I could totally imagine that being right up Dave Filoni’s alley. The IG droid was pretty cool, watching some of those latest Boston Dynamics video we may see something like that one day!

Weird hearing Brian Posehn. :)

I chuckle at some of the reviews complaining about the paucity of story or the length of the episode.

Remember when TV used to make us wait to see what happens next?

In the age of streaming and “bingeing” I guess some folks have forgotten what it’s like to not stuff the entire season into your brain in one sitting.

At the risk of sounding very old it is quite annoying.

Considering how fast people like to try to spoil things, I agree. I can keep up instead of having the season finale ruined five hours before I've even started watching ep 1. :)

We will see how that works out. I’m sure it will be a huge failure.

It's been a failure so far. It will only not be a failure once they bother to flesh out the character, which they should have done in episode #1.

Not really, no. One need only look at Boba Fett's rise to popularity, plus all the Westerns in history, plus samurai stories. "Mysterious gunman" is a foundational storytelling typography and has functioned for years of getting people invested.

So, respectfully, no, it doesn't defeat the purpose.

Boba Fett was an extremely minor character who wasn't literally the titular lead. It's perfectly fine to have a minor goon who just stands there and looks cool. A protagonist needs a LOT more.

Even all those "mysterious gunman" tropes you reference usually had more to them then the Mandalorian does out of the gate. If nothing else, they all had faces, which actually does a lot to humanize a character over a static mask.

So, yeah, the character is still a friggin' blank. And a rather boring one at that. I hope this changes.

Actually, I remember when TV was actually enjoyable to watch as you watched it and you don't have to "wait" for it to get good.

Remember how bad the first episodes for The Sopranos, Mad Men and Breaking Bad were? Oh, wait, no, they were good right out of the gate.

Try having some standards.

It's one episode...it's the equivalent of the mysterious stranger riding into down, ordering a drink, and showing what he can do=basically, a small dip into their world...what more do people want in one episode? :wtf:

Tried each one and couldn't get past the first episode, so no. I'm not waiting for TV to "get good." It is good and the unveiling is part of the experience.

A good episode that creates a compelling character or characters and a story that is sophisticated, intriguing and complex?

This was none of those things.
