Disney's newest live action movie based on an animated classic. So far it has been getting great reviews.

Directed by Jon Favreau. This movie stars Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong'o, Scarlett Johansson, Giancarlo Esposito, Christopher Walken and Neel Sethi as Mowgli.

I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to see this, but I am looking forward to it. I'm thinking about possibly breaking my no more 3D rule, since both reviews I read seemed to really like the 3D.

Ok, so I'm home from seeing the movie. This movie is a triumph of movie making. Seriously, It is Jon Favreau's best film, better than Iron Man. While it's great and could be a classic, it's a bit dour. This is a serious movie, told seriously. So it's pretty scary, especially for little kids. Doesn't mean there aren't a few jokes and laughs, but it's not as joyous as the cartoon. Everyone is fantastic in their voice parts, Idris Elba is simply terrifying as Shere Khan. His Khan is so ferocious and a constant menace. Bill Murry is loveable and perfectly cast as Baloo. Scarlett Johansson is pretty perfect as Kaa. However who really steals the movie is Christopher Walken, his rendition of "I Wan'na Be Like You" is the best thing ever. One of the best things is, right before Mowgli meets King Louie, he finds a Cowbell. King Louie must need more Cowbell. The weakest part of the movie is of course the kid who plays Mowgli. He's inconsistent, in some scenes he's amazing. While in others, not so much. I still consider it a triumph and doesn't hurt the movie enough to warrant not seeing it.

I saw it today and it's very good. I was impressed with the degree of realism for all the animals, as they're pretty darn realistic. You'd be hard pressed to think of them as being CGI animations.

Good to hear that you guys liked it.
I'm planning to see this movie tomorrow!

I just saw the movie and I really loved it!

The visual effects for the animals and the jungle were awesome. The kid that played Mowgli was pretty good. All the actors that voiced the animals were great, as expected Baloo was a fan favorite. Shere Khan was incredibly menacing, more than he ever was in the animated film.

I thought the changes were fine, like making King Louie so huge, and how they handled the flashback for Mowgli's origin and how he ended up in the forest when the animated movie never mentioned it. The songs were there of course. I'm glad that it didn't become a full on musical, I'm sure they were tempted.

I'll give this movie an Excellent!

Now to get out the Bluray of the Disney animated Jungle Book and give it another watch!

Maleficient had some really novel and clever ideas regarding the character, and Angeilina Jolie was the right person for the role IMO, but unfortunately most of the film has a terrible execution of those ideas. :p It's too bad she didn't get a better script to work with.

Just got back from the movie a little while ago, and I really enjoyed it.
The animation was amazing, if it weren't for the fact that they were talking I would have almost forgotten they weren't real.
I really enjoyed the story, I haven't seen the animated version in ages, so I didn't really know what to expect.
The whole cast, both the voice actors and Neel Sethi, the kid who played Mowgli, did an awesome job.

Saw it yesterday. Was very pleasantly surprised. The animal CGI is 100% photorealistic. It looks like they filmed it with real animals who somehow talked. Absolutely amazing. Everything looked real. I assumed they shot the kid in the jungle, but afterwards I read even THAT was green-screen! My god!
I was surprised how dark and terrifying the movie was at times; this is no kid's movie.

I saw this with my mom, and one thing we agreed that bugged us both was the fact that the wolf puppies never aged. We've been trying to figure out if they were suppose to have aged at the very end. We both thought the wolves Mowgli was running with were supposed to be Grey and the other puppies finally older, but then one of the little ones talked and it sounded like Grey. So was that supposed to still be Grey or did they just reuse the same voice on a new puppy?

I assumed they didn't age much, if at all, since Mowgli was still the same age at the end of the movie.

Kipling, Reitherman, and Favreau: Which "Jungle Book" did it Best?

That's a nice article comparing all three versions of The Jungle Book!

I thought each version did something better than the others, the book obviously had the the complete story, the cartoon version of Baloo (1967) is the best Baloo across all media, and the live action movie had the best Mowgli.

Seeing the live action movie got me to check out the books. I enjoyed all the Mowgli stories along with the others like "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" and "Toomai of the Elephants"!

I immediately recognized the things the new live action movie took from the books like The Law of the Jungle, a wolf named Grey Brother, the drought and the river, stealing the fire from the village, and Mowgli thinking up a plan to defeat Shere Khan. Cool!:techman:
