The Final Ongoing Star Trek Box Office Thread

If ONLY we still had a $1 or 99-cent theater in my area. I'd have seen the movie a good half dozen times by now...at least!

Star Trek had a pretty good Thursday: $33,001 for the 27th. That's more than it made on any of the past three weekdays, up 13.9% from Wednesday, and the per screen average rose to $122.

Domestic total: $256,490,791.

It is going to be a slow journey to $257 million domestic.

However, the movie should pass $383 million global this weekend!!! :)

Current Global Total: $382,876,173

Yep, $257 million may be a bit of a long-shot, but it'll definitely get to $383 million worldwide, which is certainly nice.

We probably won't know til Sunday, or perhaps even Monday, how Trek will do this weekend, but I'm a bit more interested in the box office at large. The two major new releases are both horror film sequels (Halloween II and The Final Destination), so I'll be very curious to see which one ends up on top. Of course, who knows, maybe Inglorious Basterds will end up at #1 again -- anything's possible.

Both Horror movies will probably open in the low 20s and Basterds will be very low 20s or very high teens.

We can be pretty sure Trek will make around $180K this weekend, bringing it up to around 256.7ish. 300K over the next few weeks or so is very doable.

Early Weekend Estimates:
1. The Final Destination - $26 million
2. Halloween 2 - $17.5 million
3. Inglorious Basterds - $17.5 million
4. District 9 - $10 million
5. Julie & Julia - $7 million

Surprised TFD broke away so much. They both got wretched reviews but I figured they would still be close, I guess the 3D sold TFD.

I've always found the Final Destination series fairly entertaining. I'm not a big horror fan (since I find them redundant), but I do like this series because it forgoes a lot of the stupid stuff (dark figure approaching, running around, getting trapped somewhere, and getting caught), and just goes the route of seeing how screwed up and how convoluted/random a death scene they can lay out.

I loved 1 and 2 of the TFD series, but 3 started to wear thin a bit and 4 just doesn't look good at all. That being said, I'll still rent it when it comes out.

I'm more than Happy at the BO gross of the film. It saved the franchise, with the Strong WOM of the film the sequel will have a big increase, just like Batman Begins and Pirates 2

A very interesting weekend at the box office... I must admit, I was a little surprised to see The Final Destination perform so well; I didn't think the series had much in the way of a solid fanbase, at least not anymore.

Last week's top dog, Inglorious Basterds, managed to beat newcomer Halloween 2 by around $3 million, but that's not to say H2 is a failure -- especially considering its budget was only around $15 million.

As for Trek, not bad -- not bad at all. I'm still not entirely sure if it'll get to $257 million, but if it does, it won't be for a while.

Well consider it will likely make $80K Mon-Thurs and about $125-130K on the weekend, that puts us at around 256,880,000. I'm sure it can scrounge up 120-150K in the remaining time.

Final tally for the weekend: $182,482. Pretty good, down 24.1% from last weekend, which is less of a decline than many other films experienced.

Domestic total: $256,673,273.
Worldwide total: $383,058,655.

So while $257 is a minor reach...it's not impossible. Good. Another month in release should get it to within about $150-200,000 of the mark if nothing else.

yeah, but that seems more than a bit of a stretch. Another month? it's had a damn good run already, another month seems almost wishful thinking.

But I'm more than happy at how well they've done. Would have been nice to see box office totals on a par with Iron-Man, but hey....... For Star Trek this has been stellar!!!!!

Who knows? It's coming back to two IMAX theatres in the LA area this weekend.

Anything is possible. So long as IMAX screens continue to show it or even ADD it to their schedule $257 million isn't totally out of the picture.
