More a matter of I didn't have the information from the beginning of the series therefore ruining my view of both Kirk and Spock. The "Deadly Years" was too late by then.
Joking. Semi.

I really want people to articulate to me what aspect of the story has been lost due to not knowing the age. I have no doubt there such details are helpful with world building I often struggle with needing to know a character's age in order to engage with them or the story. That too.![]()
Possible, but not the intent, and would add an unnecessary layer of complication, IMO. And the birthdates for supposed senior and junior still wouldn't line up.
Again, I had considered that, but, it doesn't jibe with the kind of reference Pike made. He specifically said Philippa had "memorized every regulation by the second week." That is something one says of a peer, not an officer coming back for "continuing education," nor would an incoming cadet know what an upperclassman had accomplished before they arrived. The only way that line makes sense is if they entered the Academy together.
The best explanation, as Tim says above, would be that Pike is a bit older than he seems in "The Cage," and that Georgiou is younger than Michelle Yeoh. I doubt that they'll go that route, though.
So if Pike was born in 2205 regardless of Timeline, he could’ve been a freshman when Georgiou was a senior. Problem solved?
Pike just looks 30-something in "The Cage", probably due to exercise and good genes, even though he's approaching 50.
But he doesn’t in “Q&A”, which is set before “The Cage”.
Yep. Jeffrey Hunter has been retconned away. First Jim Caviezel, and now Anson Mount.
What's Jim Caviezel got to do with it? (though I admit, I had thought of casting him as Pike before Bruce Greenwood lol)
Ah, right. Duh. Need more coffee, brain not functioning yet.Caviezel played Jesus after Hunter did.
since Georgiou could have just been taking a freshman year course that was a prerequisite to complete before graduating. Or Pike decided to take a sophomore year course in his freshman year that she just happened to be taking, as that sophomore year course had no prerequisite to apply to take it, and again, was a prerequisite for Georgiou to graduate and she had not completed it yet.
Could see Pike at 40 but not 50.
