"The Bodyguard" Remake in Development

Dolly’s version is far better. Yes, Whitney had pipes from heaven but in true diva fashion, her version goes for all the big moments from the opening bars, whereas the way that Dolly builds up over the course of the song does it for me. YMVWD of cours

I would agree, but then I'm a big Dolly fan.

It's quirky, and it's no Dolly (or even Whitney) but I kind of like John Doe (from X)'s version as well:

Melissa Etheridge did a right proper version as well

I actually saw John Doe in concert years ago paired with The Sadies as his backing band. Fun stuff. At the time he had recently released his version of 'Stop The World and Let Me Off".

I've seen the Sadies, but haven't seen Doe. But I am familiar with the work they did together. I especially liked "Cold Hard Facts of Life."

I don't think they did all that many shows together, and most of them were at music festivals. That year at our local festival The Sadies had also played on their own.

He has a background as a punk artist, so it was quite a discovery to hear him put out such a good throwback to oldschool country. And he was great live.

Doe was a founding member of X and The Knitters.

If you like Doe, country or X, and you haven't already, make sure you check out Doe's sometimes bandmate (and founding member of the Blasters) Dave Alvin. He does a great mix of old school country and heartland rock (and, with the Blasters, what might be best described as Punkabilly).
