The Blacklist - Season 3 Discussion Thread

I realize that Ressler has his moral code and all, but seriously, could he be any more of a dick than he's become?

As usual, I loved the way that Red managed to manipulate those around around, getting one redneck biker to shoot another. I was hoping for a bit more from the mid-season finale, but things were left off in typical cliff-hanger style, with things not looking too good for Lizzie.

Can't wait to find out what the 'package' that Dembe picked up really is.

Until January...

:bolian:

I must say, the fall finale did not go where I thought it would. I expected Lizzy to be exonerated in this episode, not captured! I could have done without the "Red is captured by random rednecks" story line in the big final episode.

I was surprised when viewing the fall finale that a bunch of idiots like the KOTH could get the drop on Red. It goes to show you can never be too careful.
The fugitive storyline has had the benefit of giving us more insight into how Red lives, what his true resources are and how he fights when he's cornered.
Tom must have really fallen for her because he's practically a terminator when it comes to helping her clear her name.
Ressler is an idiot and a hypocrite. He's the one who allowed Liz to flee the black site in the first place. If he had stopped her then it's a whole different season. Now he moralizes about his fallen police dad (setting up the mechanism for their homage to LA Confidential). It's pretty lame to be self righteous when he's been a lying drug addict.
As usual Spader holds it all together. Looking forward to January.

To some extent, I don't think the writers honestly believed it either, which is likely why they didn't show the scene of them "getting the drop" on Red. Any way they shot it, it likely would not have been believable and no moon-sized lampshade would have fixed it.

That was a lame-ass episode. The minute the redneck gang showed up, I heard Deliverance banjo-music.

The Ressler character is so badly written--one minute, he's perfect -FBI-Boy Scout, then the next, he's bending the rules to help Lizzie get away. Now we get the dead-dad speech about how he'll never bend the rules. WTF?

It's either extremely horrible writing to the point of virtual character assassination (more likely), or all this weirdness and inconsistent behavior are symptoms of the greater PTSD he apparently suffered earlier (less likely, but possible) and hasn't yet really been adequately treated.

The pro with that is that it can explain literally everything - all his odd behavior and contradictory motivations.

The con is that he should have been required to hand over his badge and sidearm and be put on indefinite leave until he could receive proper treatment. He was clearly not ready to go back into the field despite all his protestations to the contrary and the second he exhibited such self-destructive activity someone should have noticed and called him out on it.

Regardless of the reasoning, the damage to the character is done and can't really be undone at this point, IMO.

Reminds me of the pasting that Juliette's character received in Grimm before she got (ostensibly) clipped by Trubel.

Hey, Guys!

I damn near missed the show being back on for the balance of the season! Thankfully, a co-worker mentioned it to me in time to DVR it. Currently about half-way through it.

I still think that Ressler's a dick.

Let the discussion resume.

:techman:

Hooray for Aram! He really is the only FBI person there worth a damn.

But, damn, Red; if you
-YOU, of all people--invite someone to meet you at an open grave, you MUST know that they are going to think you mean to kill them, not compliment them on a job well done.
Poor Aram must've needed a wardrobe change after that meeting.

Seriously, Tom or Cooper should've just picked up a gun and shot the dickhead-henchman in the head and saved us from Ressler's Boy Scout Moment altogether.

Really, ALL these people are out to save Liz. Why, exactly? The whole show feels like a bad Mary Sue fanfic.

Still totally into this show. I feel like the entire story is going to be wrapped up next week. Will the Cabal still be around after that, and if not, what's the story then? At the very least, the Director and Mathias have to be gone I assume.

Probably the best episode of the show. After Red, Aram is the best character on the show. He was so great in it.

I like how Red has been assembling 'his team' from the characters who aren't part of the Cabal. It's like Red's Avengers, or something.

I was thinking about this when watching the episode today. The show has to end with Red being #1 on the Blacklist and with either his capture or death.

^....and with him getting away, with some great flourish, while the Fucking Bunch of Idiots stand there, hands on hips, shaking their heads in disgust.

No, I really hope not....but really, with the way the show has been so far, that's probably exactly what will happen. *sigh*

Have any of the episodes shown who the #1 person is on the BL? If not, then that is the most likely identifier that it's Red.

Edit: Found the list on Wiki. Lowest number so far is Tom Keen at #7. So yeah, Red's probably #1.
