The Andromeda Strain

I watched this movie last night on Cinemax I think. I haven't seen it for years, it was made in 1971. Even though the pacing of the movie is very slow (directed by Robert Wise, go figure) I still found the movie very interesting. I haven't seen since I was a kid, decades ago, and seeing it again now was like seeing it for the first time.....I saw the mini-series earlier this summer and didn't like it at all...

I think this movie could be remade with a modern cast and effects, with a little better pacing, and would be a good movie.

The 1971 version, the one I saw last night ,may not be a scifi classic, but it is still a good movie that touches on themes (alien life threatening our world with bacteria/virus the size of two microns) that could easily be brought up. I think, in 2014, they plant to bring back a soil sample from mars, and if they find it by then, perhaps even a mircobotic life form...

There was a tv miniseries remake of Andromeda Strain that aired earlier this year. It's out on DVD.

It's one of my all-time favorite films. And the "slow"ness of its pace is one of the reasons. You have to think while the characters are thinking. You have to observe what THEY are observing at the pace they're observing it.

And the art direction still holds up in my opinion. The quintessential sub-desert installation. (The Time Tunnel had a great one, too.

A classic. The realism of this movie is outstanding. Some people don't like the slow-paced genre of this film. For me, it gives the impression you're actually live with them, looking for every single clue, hearing the baby crying and the drunk guy.

by the way, my favorite scene who still affects me is the voices of those poor military who die. We don't have to see them die. The way it was done was perfect. The line on the screen and those guys in the office standing there. They know they couldn't do anything for them. Horrifying...

Agreed, the original movie is a classic of sci-fi cinema. The miniseries added nothing to the tale, and I'll not be watching it again.

The book is an interesting read also!

I read the book in 5th grade lol, and liked the movie a lot.. it's certainly one of the most faithful adfaptations of a book I've ever seen, other than the gender-switch of one scientist.

It's really a science procedural movie as much as anything lol.

Am I dreaming this or did the mini-series have some weird twist about
time-travel

have never seen either of the screen versions of this, but loved the book. I prefer the action of Jurrassic Park (Raptors blown up with a grenade launcher.....way cooler than the movie) but Andromeda Strain is great too in it's own way.

You're not.

I thought the mini had a few interesting concepts added to the mix, but it's execution was poor, and is no where near the quality of the movie...

I love this movie. One of the true classics of sci-fi.

I thought the new version was above avg for a TV remake, but I'm not ready to say it was better than the original. I have a fondness for the workmanlike, no nonsense approach of the original.

I love this movie, it sits up there with all my other fave classic sci-fi movies...Forbidden Planet, The Satan bug, This Island Earth(i still want a interrositer), War of The worlds, Invaders From Mars and The Day The Earth stood still...........too name a few.
