The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

Mini Isabelle has some minions! Tiny versions of the doll. I named them (left to right) Celeste, Esme, Irma/Mindee, Phoebe, and Sophie. Gold star and a cookie if you know where I got those names. I added glitter to Esme's dress to tell her and Sophie apart.

Scored the following yesterday for my birthday:

BB-8 and Unkar's Thugs multipack of 3.75" figures.

TFA 3.75" First Order Snowtrooper.

TFA 3.75" First Order Stormtrooper (and extra copy, this time on a slightly different cardback with a different pack-in weapon piece).

Walmart-exclusive 3.75" Black Series Luke Skywalker (Lightsaber Construction).

After having watched "The Wrath of Khan" I got inspired to do a scene of Kirk reading a book with his glasses on.

Someone commented on the items in his book shelf, which I had borrowed from the Stargate figures. Then this happened:

I apologize for being so mean to Kirk ;)

That might be the best and most creative use of a Star Trek action figure I've seen in a long time. Outside of OdoWan's awesome displays and comic strips, that is.

That was brilliant. Poor Jim. :D

Aw, thank you guys! I’m happy you like my silly stuff ;) I was really worried in the beginning, thinking that long time fans might think I am mocking the series, or not taking it seriously enough. I love all the deep discussions on this board, but I also want to have a little fun.

Can I find OdoWan’s pictures here in this thread as well? I really need to look through all the older posts.

Telling you a secret: That is actually the Kirk with the blood stain I used here. As I didn’t have the other one yet. I have photoshopped it, you can see it if you look very closely.

The Stargate and Star Trek figures work so well together because they are both made by Diamond Select. I do even remember the pictures on the small promotion books in the packages back then when I bought Stargate. Never in my life I would have thought at the time that I would buy the Trek figures one day. How things change!

A few weeks back was the anniversary of when Star Trek first aired. So my figures had a party! This story was done together with friends. We giggled a lot while setting this up and one crazy idea led to the next:

The preparations:

Sulu and Uhura try to heat the meat with a candelabra but it does not quite work.

Cue Scotty and his phaser! We’re ready! (note my special effect LOL)

The picnic:

A picnic is only good if you can have fun with friends. The Star Trek crew invited the Stargate team over.

Edit: I apologize for the picture of Spock with meat. He is vegetarian of course. Apparently none of us realized what a huge mistake we were commiting. Nothing I can do about it now though. Sorry.

The two leaders - Kirk and O'Neill - exchange stories about the burden of command, and there’s plenty of food.

There is another part with the aftermath of the party, but I’ll keep that for another day.

Oh, yeah, OdoWan's pictures are posted all through this thread and go back to almost the beginning. He's very talented and skilled at dioramas and displays of his figures and has photographed some very fun and entertaining adventures with them. Check 'em out by going back through the history of the thread.

He posted on Facebook recently. I'm assuming he's doing fine but is either too busy at the moment or has decided to take a little break from the BBS.

Sooooooo, I was in Target today and happen upon this thing of beauty. It's incredibly larger, the box is huge. I'm not sure of the dimensions but look at the stuff around it. I want to get it for Ian for Christmas/Chanukah. Now I just need to convince the wife, it's $169.00. We kinda agreed that we were done but thats before I saw this. Wish me luck!

About this last picture, in the trailer we saw the Tie Fighter shooting backwards at the new X-Wings. Well this pic explains that, there are two people in the cockpit. I wonder if thats just a gunner or if both can fly the Tie?

I've seen it loose and in person! It is huge for a toy TIE Fighter. A local GameStop has a loose copy on display for those who might want to look at the ship before they decide to purchase and I got to open the cockpit and handle and take a look at the TIE Fighter Pilot figure that's included. The level of detail for a non-electronic Star Wars ship is impressive and it would take up a huge chunk of shelf or floor space if you bought it.

It looks cool, but $170 is a little steep for one ship without any electronic sound or light features and a figure. At least for me it's a little pricey, but good luck scoring one for your kids! :)

also saw one at my local GameStop. it is very extremely nice...but too far outta my price range. plus, i have nowhere to display it.

My Rement (thanks Astra. :) ) Science lab set came in today. And pared up with this rather...creepy Nativity scene diorama thing I found at Hobby Lobby, I redid my Luigi's Mansion 2 inspired diorama from earlier. Much more atmospheric. ;)

Thanks! Of course, I would not want to miss any stuff by others, so I will indeed start at the beginning (have already a while back but don't remember where I stopped) and go through it all. Will be a fun evening or two!

You're welcome, and that looks absolutely awesome! I may have to look for it myself. So far I only saw food stuff and also school / stationery stuff, but it often looks very Japanese and therefore does not fit everywhere. But my McCoy or Owen from Torchwood or Janet Fraiser from Stargate can always use a few more glass flasks and other stuff! And in December we will get a small Sherlock as well.

Edit: Now I know again why I tend to avoid Re-ment stuff. It's all so confusing with the variants! Did you get the whole 10 piece thing? That's quite expensive if you don't want it all. I only seem to be able to find the whole package for USD 40+ or cheaper blind boxes, meaning you don't know which you'll get. Were you able to pick which theme box exactly, and if, can you please share the link? As I already have a human body model, I bought one of the children magazines at the station which have all kind of cool plastic toy attachments.

Here is the rest of my story - the aftermath of the party.

The aftermath:

Daniel and Uhura talk about how to contact new worlds over a cocktail.

Teal'c and Spock, the two aliens, are on first name basis now. In Germany you have to entangle your arms and take a drink to do that. Again I have to apologize that we not only made Spock eat meat but also drink alcohol. But maybe one could think this is lemonade rather than beer.

McCoy, Scotty and Sulu play cards.

Kirk flirts with Sam.

Jack is not happy about this and takes to the Saurian Brandy.

Then he gets out the guitar to win Sam back - and it seems to work. (The guitar is a lighter)

And so we leave them to their privacy - wait, what are Uhura and Scotty doing there?!? (the only reason for this pose is that Uhura cannot sit on her own. She has no hip joints)

It's a good thing those figures have super articulation, because simple 5-POA sculpts couldn't handle nearly as much liquor and would have passed out long before that.

:p

So I do buy random action figures now and again but I'm probably not as an expert as some of you guys, especially on Star Wars stuff, so I'll ask this.

I've got a couple of Black Series figures in the past, awesome stuff. I was in a Disney Store last night and saw the new Captain Phasma figure which looked awesome. For a minute I was gonna buy it, then realised it was from the "Elite Series" and after deciding to leave it for later, and after some internet research, I see there's the Elite Series only available in Disney stores, but still the Black Series too. And Phasma is available in both.
So do people have preferences? I suppose as I other Black series ones I'd go with that but they might be hard to track down, whereas the Disney store had loads of the Elites on sale. Are they basically the same size/height?
Thanks

The Disney Store exclusive Elite are die cast. I believe they are ever so slightly smaller than the 1:12/6 inch Black series but I could be wrong about that since I don't have any.

^
What he said.

They're basically Disney Store-exclusive die-cast figures with a good level of detailing and included stands. I don't buy or collect them but some of them look pretty cool.
