A lightsaber is a distinct weapon. A knife is less so. It's unclear if the murderer wants to be known by the Jedi or remain in the shadows enough to conduct their plan.
Use the simplest weapon possible to accomplish the task.

Indeed; and even if that inference that it's the Sith is even correct, it's not like anything on an "epic" scale is likely to happen, because we already know that a century later the council are still clueless and convinced they've been dead and gone for a thousand years.
Any big moves the Sith may or may not be making are going to be of the shadowy, sneaky, insidious kind (no pun intended) that isn't likely to leave any surviving Jedi witnesses.
Not really sure if I'd call it untapped, so far there have been dozens of novels, comics, short stories, reference books, and an animated series set during The High Republic era. And on top of The Acolyte there's also a video game coming out sometime in the next few years also set during The High Republic.
There's no way it could be that, it's 100 years before The Phantom Menace, so it's way to late for the original emergence of the Sith, and way to early for their later rediscovery since that happened during TPM.
The trailer was really cool, it looks like it's going to be a bit more traditional Star Wars than I expected, but I like tranditional Star Wars so I like that.
I'm really hoping this is the Bothans. Who, yes, were mentioned in RotJ, but whom we've never actually seen. The EU design was pretty cool, and it's about damn time that we get an onscreen Bothan.

Yoda's species doesn't need a name. There are three of them, it's easier to just use their individual names anyway.
But we've never even gotten a background Bothan. At this point you couldn't be blamed for believing that Palpatine invented them whole cloth to Rick Roll the Rebellion.

I feel the same way about Bothans as you do about Yoda's species name: its unnecessary.
Hell, we only had two Twi'leks, one Torgruta, one Clawdite, etc. yet I knew their names better than my high school algebra.
Number of members doesn't seem relevant.

IIRC, back when Lucas was calling the shots he actually forbid Yoda's species to be named, a wish Disney/Filoni is continuing to honor.

I honestly never want to see the Bothans. Not everything has to be seen or explained onscreen. They served their purpose by being mentioned in ROTJ, and did so quite effectively. That's enough. That's enough already.
