T.H.U.G.S. Get Your CONNOR Fix Here!

Connor's wife, Ariana, is a Francophile (they got married in France). I think she speaks French and I think she has taught him some, but I've never heard him say anything in French.

Anybody else out there know for sure?

i have no proofs to prove that ( i'm not a genealogist :)), but Ariana's name is Navarre. and, in France, Navarre is the name of an old area, located in south shared between France and Spain (that doesn't exist anymore). so we can conclude that she had some ancestor in France or Spain who immigrated in US and took the name of Navarre. so maybe she speaks a little bit french and/or spanish. in this case, she certainly learned some words to Connor.
As I understand it, Ariana Navarre is her stage name. She was born, I think, in California. And I'm pretty sure she doesn't speak just a little French, she's fluent.

ah ok, thanks, i thought it was her real name (i don't even think about the stage name... my god, i'm so silly sometimes:lol:)

Well, the fact that she chose the name Navarre is consistent with her interest in all things French. :)

I've learned something today. I had no idea that was her stage name. Don't think I have ever seen another name listed anywhere. Before seeing this, if I had seen a listing of them using her real name I would have thought he got divorced and remarried at some point.

Hadn't even considered that she used a stage name myself either. Isn't it strange how some actors/actresses change their name while others keep their birth name. So pleased Connor didn't change his, I love the name Connor, and Trinneer is so unusual, as is his middle name Wyatt (as stated on his imdb page).

Beats me. Why do writers adopt pen names? Privacy? Because their given names are awkward, difficult to spell, or remember?

For marketing purposes, sometimes. If Joe Action is well known for his crime novels, but he wants to write a line of romance books, the romance crowd probably wouldn't be familiar with his name--or they might not trust that he could write a romance well. So he uses the pen name Josephina Romanza instead. Also, if Joe's sales slump, he might invent a new pen name, say Jack Rockford, for his crime novels, and now he can be freshly marketed all over again.

I don't think actors can use this tactic as easily, tho. ;)

But they often change their names for better marketability. Horror star Boris Karloff's real name was William Henry Pratt. Or to simplify, perhaps. Eric Bana used to be Eric Banadinovich. Or maybe a different name just sounds better. John Wayne's real name was... Marion Morrison.

sometimes they do it because as hr notes they want to write for a different market and not be prejudge.
sometimes they dont want to appear to flood the market for which they already write.

sf author and editor wrote who goes there the basis of the movie the thing under don a stuart because it was a darker piece of work.
later on when he edited analog he didnt like to have to many stories by one author appearing to often so some writers used other names to get around this.

one of the most interesting and infamous is james tiptree jr.

because robert silverberg wrote this..
It has been suggested that Tiptree is female, a theory that I find absurd, for there is to me something ineluctably masculine about Tiptree's writing. I don't think the novels of Jane Austen could have been written by a man nor the stories of Ernest Hemingway by a woman, and in the same way I believe the author of the James Tiptree stories is male

of course it turned out tiptree was indeed alice sheldon.

who wasnt the first female sf writer to either disguise for play down their gender by using just their initials or full pseudonyms.

Creation is the best and worst of the convention organizers. They do an amazing job of getting stars to appear but they treat the fans and the guests like cattle and they charge a fortune for everything. It's disgusting.
****************

I probably posted this already.. somewhere.. but at the Enterprise boys luncheon last August in Vegas, a young girl had a poster for them to sign for charity. Creation had a fit as they werent allowing any autographs or pictures at the tables. Well, Connor signed anyway.. and he yelled across the room for Dominic and Anthony to make sure they signed the poster, too. I thought it was great that Connor didnt care about the Creation police. You should have seen the Amazon woman they had "guarding" him and Dominic at the party.. even tho no one was bothering them at all anyway ! I can see having to have some rules or else there would be people giving the celebs 5 items to sign and wanting multiple pictures.. but Creation goes too far.. for way too much money! I am not signing up for anything like that this year.

I do remember that. It was the table right next to ours. This is one of the many reasons why I'll spend a fortune to see him.

apparently, connor is selling his house

[link removed]

2 suppositions :

1° he's selling to buy something better or maybe quiter

2° it's became too expansive (financial crisis)

i hope he has not money problems

Looks like he is not afraid of color. It could be that since he is not a regular and thus not driving to the studio every day he is willing to move out a bit in exchange for a larger lot and bigger yard for the kid.

Oh, and you can tell the house is staged for sale. No sign of a 3 year old.

How can someone who wears the shirts he does be afraid of color? He loves color!

As for the house, that place is GORGEOUS! I would suspect that without a regular paycheck coming in, the mortgage has to be tough. When he and Ariana bought that place, I'm sure he thought he had several years of steady employment to pay it off.

Sadly, he's in a Really Big Club.

This is a beautiful old house! Whatever the reasons Connor is selling it, I can only wish him the best.

I love Craftsman-style houses! Now, however, is not a good time to sell. **Ouch.** Still, you can find a lot of really good deals out there. I hope he's found a really nice place for a cheap price.

So, is he working on anything right now? Anyone know?

Forget the mortgage. I would hate to pay the taxes on a million dollar home in that area. In addition to no steady series I'm sure the reduction of ST conventions has also hurt. It is almost down to Creation only for conventions and I notice they are pushing sell prices on the NJ gathering tickets. People are not traveling like they used to, and many here have mentioned not buying the extras this time around like photo op's or dinners with the stars.

Well, I'm considering bidding on lunch/dinner with Connor (and I'll certainly get a photo op) with him because this is going to be a relatively cheap convention for me to attend. It's a 2-hour drive. No airfare! :)

in my opinion, he didn't live any more there for a while. when you see the photos, that looks like to photos in magazine.

now, when you see this article, we can see that a lot of star are selling. i agree with the taxes suppositions which talk SFRABID. when the taxes became too high, they need to move in a cheaper area.
