Superman: The Reboot --- Its official

PERRY WHITE: Martin Sheen

I really, really like that. I'm stealing it.

SUPERMAN: Peter Krause (Six Feet Under, Dirty Sexy Money)
LOIS LANE: Cate Blanchett (I'm Not There, The Aviator)
LEX LUTHOR: Clancy Brown (Carnivale, The Shawshank Redemption)
PERRY WHITE: Martin Sheen (The West Wing, The Dead Zone)
JOR-EL: Lance Henriksen (MillenniuM, Aliens)
LARA: Joan Allen (The Contender, Nixon)
JONATHAN KENT: Patrick McGoohan (The Prisoner, Braveheart)
MARTHA KENT: Rita Moreno (Oz, West Side Story)
JIMMY OLSEN: Jared Padalecki (Supernatural, Gilmore Girls)
JOHN HENRY IRONS: Mathew St. Patrick (Six Feet Under, Reunion)
EMIL HAMILTON: Hugo Weaving (The Matrix, V for Vendetta)
ZOD: James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville)
JOHN CORBEN: Terry O'Quinn (Lost, MillenniuM)
BRAINIAC: Callum Keith Rennie (Battlestar Galactica, The X-Files: I Want To Believe)
PARASITE: Garrett Dillahunt (Deadwood, The 4400)
MERCY: Lena Headey (300, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles)
MANCHESTER BLACK: Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica, L&O:UK)
MORGAN EDGE: Michael Emerson (Lost, The Practice)

Nope. That cast has 'FLOP!!' written all over it. Here's my choice, that would knock with the audience, and really make the new Superman a glamorous movie.

SUPERMAN / CLARK KENT - Michael Trucco (NuBSG, Pensacola)
LOIS LANE - Alana De La Garza (Law and Order, The Mountain)
BRAINIAC - Vin Diesel

Others, I don't care about. :p

I say cast Christian Bale to play Superman too.

This would also lead to an interesting Batman/Superman movie.:p:p

I will say it again, Luthor stands for something that resonates with some fans of Superman, for others he does nothing which is why they brought on Darkseid in the first place. Darkseid is the villian that no one can stop. A god that strikes fear throughout the universe. He is the ultimate villian. What more perfect villian for Superman than someone that does not even think he is a threat. Superman actually should have taken Luthor out a longtime ago. Nothing prevents him from doing so other than himself. With Darkseid, he doesn't have the power or ability to take down Darkseid.

And I have said this before, and I will say it again, even in light of TDK, I don't like the Joker either, never have never will. If the Joker was in the Marvel Universe, he would have been killed a longtime ago. I prefer Ra's Al Ghul to the Joker as Batman's top villain any day.

we have chatted long enough that you should know that I am not new to this whole superhero thing.

Hicks, you definitely need to research Superman more, especially post Crisis. He is not that "super" in his universe if you will.

Zack Efron as Lex Luthor
Ashley Tisdale as Miss Teschmacher
Vanessa Hudgens as Lois lane
Lucas Grabeel as Superman (I saw the stage show movie, this guy is the alpha male behind the scenes.)
Corbin Bleu as Otis

Etc, etc.

In the opinions of some, that's part of what makes Luthor a good villain, and Superman a hero.

But as I've said, while I don't agree on a 25-year moratorium, I think the next film, whatever its nature, can do without an onscreen Luthor. If they want to go all "dark and brooding", Superman's worst enemy can be himself. Have him go all Kingdom Come/Squadron Supreme, in his own little universe without other heroes around to help or stop him...he's forced to question how far somebody with his power should allow himself to go...does he need to rule the world to save it?

Or he could just fight himself in a junkyard, throw some tires and stuff. But not before he sits in a bar and breaks liquor bottles by flicking peanuts at them.

What an odd statement. Neither company is in the habit of killing off (or at least permanently killing off) popular, longstanding characters.

I haven't read comics in awhile and we no one is ever truly dead, but Marvel has killed, Phoneix/Jean Grey/whoever several times and I think she is currently dead, Green Goblin used to be dead i think, Captain America is currently dead, and I am sure many others. The Joker has not been killed by anyone not even once.

Ok am I the only one on this board that like Superman III? I have never had anyone tell me they disliked Superman III in person so I am perplexed that so many people hate it. That is differently a topic we have to explore later.

How do you emotionally or cerebrally challenge Superman in a believable way? I don't see how in any way that truly feels "high stakes".
That's easy...put his friends in danger. He's the Man of Steel, they're not.

Well, yeah, but how do you do that in a way where it's hard for Superman to save them? The guy is almost a god. There's always kryptonite, I guess, but that gets tiresome.

Excellent point.

Let's face it...one of the problems with Superman is that he's an alien with virtually unlimited power. The average person can't really relate to him like they can Batman, Spider-Man, or the X-Men. Luthor is his arch-nemesis and a great villain but can't challenge Superman on a physical level. There's really no character that can.

Ok are you guys actually reading the thread? We have listed several villains that can all clean Superman's clock so please stop with this no one can challenge him angle. It just is not true.

(I blame this entirely on people thinking Luthor is his arch nemesis)

And who here really can relate to Bruce Wayne, Peter Parker, or Logan. I mean come on really? Don't see how any of them are any more identifiable than Clark Kent.

Well I let a burglar get away without lifting a finger to stop him, and he ended up killing my philanthropist parents. And I have claws that come out between my knuckles. So personally I can related to Bruce, Peter and Logan. But that's just me.

I don't want to see another Superman movie for atleast 10 years, if one comes out around 2010, it will suck because it will be rushed. Am I crazy?

Um, except for Darkseid... Bizzaro... Parasite... and depending on which incarnation, Braniac. Oh and Zod. Doomsday too (as thin a character as he is)

It's a mistake to try to make Superman 'relatable' anyway--Clark Kent is the one the audience can 'relate' to and Superman is the one the audience should aspire to. It's a really simple but effective formula that has worked for decades--one that has a mythic enough quality to be timeless.
