Supergirl - Season Four

Unlike the other Arrowverse shows Black Lightning is a "Netflix Original" in the rest of the world, and those shows usually take a bit longer to get to home media so if I were to guess I'd say that's the reason for the delay.

There's a SDCC panel for the show this Saturday, might announce it then, we'll see.

Thanks for that thought. I'm an old-school physical media collector, and I've frankly been fretting a bit at the silence from Warner Home Video on one of my favorite shows, but your speculation sounds plausible.

Despite being superior to any of the Arrowverse shows (yes, even my beloved Supergirl), Black Lightning is consistently sidelined pretty much everywhere. It barely gets discussed here, or reviewed anywhere. All the Arrowverse shows have had Blu-ray releases announced for their latest seasons, but not Black Lightning. I just wish I could figure out what sets the show apart that could possibly account for such marginalization ....

Right now, the biggest reason stopping me is because from what I read about the show, it just doesn't seem like my kinda thing. Than again, I also thought I wouldn't enjoy Supergirl, which I actually enjoy quite a lot.
Another big thing is, because it isn't Arrowverse. I have so many shows I really love watching already and many more I still need to see. The reasons I started Supergirl and Legends was because of the crossovers and I felt I should give them a shot.

I do wonder if BL isn't hurting itself commercially by remaining outside the Arrowverse. Some, like you, may not consider it "essential" viewing as a result, plus the show loses the promotional value of the crossovers -- e.g., "I loved that Thunder character when she teamed up with Supergirl; I should check out Black Lightning!"

(And before TG1 chimes in to declaim how the Arrowverse doesn't deserve BL, I'm talking here about commercial considerations, not creative ones.)

I think that's actually quite possible. Fans are pretty invested in the ArrowVerse. You then introduce a character, from DC, on the CW, without it being part of..... Yeah, some ArrowVerse will probably think 'not worth my time'.
And yes, some people will now immediatly jump on the 'hater bandwagon'. But I'm not hating. I'm just not interested. The trailers and episode descriptions just don't do it for me. Maybe, soon, I'll have some free time. I finished Stranger Things, ArrowVerse s still on hiatus. The other shows I watch are either almost done (backlog) or also on hiatus so maybe I can find some free time and watch the first few episodes and decide then.

^ I do recommend it highly. I think, by any reasonable measure, it's better written and produced than any of the Arrowverse shows, at least on a consistent basis; Supergirl (my fave Arrowverse series by far) has individual episodes of stellar quality, but it lacks BL's reliable weekly excellence.

I see the situation being similar to some fans I know who watched Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D., but never even sampled Daredevil, The Punisher, etc., but once they did, they were astounded by the higher quality difference in just about every category for the (now former) Netflix series. Black Lightning is like the Marvel Netflix series of the DC/CW productions.
