Spoilers Supergirl - Season 2

Merging "Earth-S" with the Arrowverse would require a total restructuring of everything that has been built up over the course of 6 combined seasons, and is therefore unlikely to happen, IMO.

unlike now where characters in the Arrowverse pop up on each other's shows so often that it just doesn't feel nearly as special as it once did.

Which is how I feel about the MCU and why I'm not as excited for Civil War as I was for the Avengers. Of course the Arrowverse shows have dampened my enthusiasm for cinematic superheros since I'm now getting the most comic-book universe of them all on t.v., every week, for free.

Yeah as good as Civil War is otherwise, I can't deny that the fun and thrill of seeing those superheroes interact has worn off quite a bit for me by now, since we've already seen it so often. And the same thing is unfortunately starting to happen with the Arrowverse too.

You keep repeating this. It's not really true. there are any number of ways to handle it. I even provided one in an earlier response.

I had a completely random idea. A local theater is playing The Beatles movie "A Hard Day's Night" next week. In the Beatles played themselves but it's a fictional account of their life at the time. It would an interesting twist to discover one of these DC shows is actually a tv show in the multiverse on some Earth. I would do it with the last 2 seasons of Arrow.

Anyone else wondering if we'll be getting a "standard" 20+ episode season?
Could CW maybe decide to do a shorter season to keep the budget higher per episode and perhaps alternate the show in the same timeslot as Legends?

Though no season changes have been announced yet, after the ever-sinking ratings of season one, Berlanti & Co. need to make significant changes to the entire plotting structure and characterization of SG to make audiences comfortable in thinking the 1st season was just a rough "testing ground" of sorts. It has to be able to turn into something truly compelling without the possible idea/promise of crossovers, since the one from S1 did nothing to improve the overall series.

I think the producers can and should use the relocation to think about what worked about season one, about what didn't work, and, basically, rethink the show to focus on the good stuff. Which, for me, is Kara's life in National City and her relationships with her coworkers, her sister, and J'onn.

If it were up to me, I'd eliminate the entire DEO setting entirely. Not the characters, just the setting. This would save them some money upfront (no need to recreate the DEO sets in Vancouver), and it would eliminate some of the tonal and narrative schizophrenia Supergirl suffered as it switched from the CatCo setting to the DEO setting.

There are reports its already gotten a commitment for a full 22 episodes from the CW. Not sure if it's confirmed or not.

UPDATE That was posted by actor David Harewood on Twitter last night. It's a done deal.

Really happy to hear about the second season and that it's going to be on the CW now. I enjoyed the first season for the most part, but it did feel like the producers were simplifying their style and dumbing things down a little too much in order to reach that wider CBS audience. So it'll be nice to see some slightly edgier storytelling like we usually get with their other shows-- while hopefully still maintaining the more hopeful and optimistic spirit of Supergirl herself.

I think just the opposite is the case. Lighter doesn't mean dumber. The Flash established an illegal prison for supervillains and just treated it as a plot convenience. Supergirl actually had its characters get into a meaningful debate about the ethics of illegal detention. Arrow avoided having Oliver Queen express any specific political views even when he was running for mayor, but Supergirl is unabashedly liberal and progressive and makes allegorical statements about racism and political issues facing us today. I find Supergirl a smarter, more substantive show, and I hope that doesn't get lost in the move to The CW.

As for more crossovers, it's obviously going to be happening a lot more now, but I'd prefer that they keep Supergirl contained to her own world for a while longer so she can continue exploring the unique role she plays there-- and so she doesn't become just one more superhero running around in the crowded Arrowverse world. And plus it would make the crossovers actually feel cool and unique, unlike now where characters in the Arrowverse pop up on each other's shows so often that it just doesn't feel nearly as special as it once did.

here's an idea - instead of trying to fit SG into the Arrowverse, why not simply create an Earth-SG version of The Flash and the Green Arrow that could still be played by Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin for the odd-cross over.

They already mentioned in the crossover that on E-SG there's no Flash, no S.T.A.R. labs, no Cisco, Caitlin, Welles and no Green Arrow, Black Canary...

^ That doesn't mean that you couldn't introduce the "Earth-S" doppelgangers of those characters as regular people.

Barry couldn't find Wells, Cisco, Caitlin, etc. in Central City, but that doesn't mean that their "Earth-S" counterparts, if they exist, aren't living somewhere else... and the same thing applies to "Earth-S" counterparts of Oliver and the "Team Arrow" gang and the Legends of Tomorrow gang (since they could easily exist on "Earth-S" without having to be superheroes/"Legends" there).

There's also the option of bringing Melissa over to Arrow, Flash, and Legends as the Earth-1 version of Kara, which would be an excuse to change things up a bit with her and make her different to her "Earth-S" counterpart, just as they've already done this season on The Flash with Earth-1 and Earth-2.

^^
I just don't see a point in introducing alternate versions of characters who are just "regular people".

And since this universe already has Barry who can dimension hop on his own, Cisco who can open portals, and Rip's timeship which can do pretty much whatever the plot needs there's plenty of ways for SG cast to interact with the rest of the Arrowverse.

Expanding and fleshing out the broader mythological tapestry that is the Arrowverse and its interconnected Multiverse.

And just because you introduce "Arrowverse" characters into "Earth-S" as 'regular people' doesn't mean they'd have to STAY that way.

Doing an origin story of a character who already has his own show(and an origin story told, obviously) on another show seems superfluous to me and kinda defeats the whole point of crossovers which is to see the already established characters interact.

We don't need "regular" Oliver Queen and Flash to have Supergirl counterparts on her world.

Worlds will collide. It's going to happen.
