We don't have much news about season 5 yet, aside from principal photography is scheduled to start in May and that the first episode is called "The Crawl."

But I wanted to start the season 5 thread now because Variety reported today that Netflix has ordered an animated series set within the world:

Nearly all details about the show are being kept under wraps, aside from the fact that it was developed by Eric Robles and Flying Bark Productions. Robles has previously created the animated shows “Random! Cartoons,” “Fanboy & Chum Chum,” and “Glitch Techs.”

“Stranger Things” creators the Duffer brothers executive produce via Upside Down Pictures along with Robles of Flying Bark as well as Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps. Upside Down Pictures and 21 Laps are currently under overall deals at Netflix.

“We’ve always dreamed of an animated ‘Stranger Things’ in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling,” the Duffer brothers said in a statement. “We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues…”
Yes! Stranger Things as a Saturday morning cartoon is perfect! I don't even care about the content.

Okay, yes, I do.

But I'm already sold. Give it to me now!

...along with season five!

Yeah, really, definitely not a fan of that image at all.
And isn't it a bit early for that? We haven't even finished the core series yet. Hell Stranger Things isn't even close to what we're getting from other franchises like the MCU, and those two franchises that start with Star.

Stranger Things as a Saturday morning cartoon sounds very intriguing. “Two great tastes that taste great together?” One can definitely hope!

Indeed. A clear case of trolling.

It's the most perfect fit so I'm certain it will work.

Unless you're one of the Duffer Brothers, there's absolutely no valid line of reasoning to support that commenting (through visuals or otherwise) on the perceived pointlessness of a ST remake/reboot/sequel is "trolling" you. There are literally hundreds of posts on this board (including a thread devoted to the topic) where people express the opinion that a proposed reboot/remake/sequel is unnecessary and/or emblematic of a lack of creativity in Hollywood. Are you going to take personally those posts as well?

You didn't have go out of the way to post an obnoxious image in a brand new thread about a popular show. I don't have a problem with your opinion, I have a problem with the way you expressed it, especially considering your response to me calling it out. You don't appear to want to have a discussion about whether or not Stranger Things is still enjoyable and viable for future productions. If you want to discuss that, I'm game. I just don't tolerate drive-by obnoxious posts.

I like the show a lot (though I think the Third Season had real problems) but this sort of thing on Netflix's part automatically gets my "cynical cash grab" radar up and I stand by that observation, especially coming from the streaming service that gave us "Tiger King II." And I don't see any reason why I can't use a cartoon image/meme or anything else to convey that point, assuming it doesn't violate board rules.

That being said, I hope I didn't convey the misimpression that I thought you were beating a dead horse by starting the thread, because that wasn't my intent at all

Because I couldn't find a "running something into the ground" meme.
And there was no other way you could express you're feeling than with that image, which as a vegan who likes horses, I personally found highly disturbing. After seeing the kind of shit that happens to horses, I'm really not a fan of making jokes about them being abused.

I can't really think of "Saturday Morning Cartoons" that were much like Stranger Things. That said, one big hole in my pop culture consumption is The Real Ghostbusters which from what I know may have come closest to such a thing.

That meme didn't convey that point at all. Which is part of the problem. Just a drive-by meme and nothing else. You shouldn't be surprised it was taken badly.

But the feeling is still relatively the same, especially as the first response.

Whatever. I'm here talk about Stranger Things, not dumb beating the horse memes.

Maybe there isn't a direct correlation (aside from The Real Ghostbusters) but it's just the general feeling and nostalgia. Like how how they created a couple of mobile games in the same style as the old 80s arcade games.

...and I'm still bummed the season four game was just a lame "insert characters here" puzzle game. Very disappointing after the first two knockouts.

I hope they fully embrace the idea of making it like 80s cartoons and have a wacky demo dog sidekick. It could be Dart and he pals around with Dustin.
That would be a lot of fun.

That said, I suspect the show will be new characters and not the ones we already know and love. Based on what little the Duffer Brothers have said about their perspective spin-off ideas, it wouldn't deal with any of the core cast (or even any of the tangential cast) and would be wholly separate. Even for something like this.

But that's just my interpretation based on what they've teased.

There's also the Filmation Ghost Busters cartoon, as well as other live-action turned cartoon shows like Ewoks, RoboCop, Rambo, Police Academy, Beetlejuice, Bill & Ted, and thematically the D&D cartoon feels relevant as well.

For the love of god, I hope you never see what happens to that poor duck who keeps getting his face shot off when arguing with the hunter and the rabbit.

I love Looney Tunes, but there's a difference between watching a cartoon, and someone posting an image as a statement like this.
So yeah, if some posted a random image of Daffy with his head blown to smithereens in the middle of a conversation like this, I'd find that rather disturbing too.
And when cartoons like make jokes about more realistic forms of animal abuse and things like that, I do tend to find it hard to watch. Hell, I stopped watching Family Guy because I got tired of all the rape and sexist jokes,

Shut up and take my money already!

...what? Am I the only one who had that immediate reaction?
