Spoilers Stranger Things - Season 4

I wonder who's playing Vecna? I just checked Wikipedia and IMDB, and neither of them have the actor playing him in the cast list.

Trailer gave me a real Buffy opening of the hellmouth vibe. Also as I expected the boys are starting to look ridiculously grown up.Overall looks really fun and looks like it will go back to season 1s darker scarier vibe

That might be due to the filming break after Covid hit. Expect a few weird shots where one of the boy goes from looking very young to very lanky teen and you will instantly notice what was filmed pre-Covid vs filmed post Covid.

Not by name but you see and hear him multiple times and the spelling of his name comes from the title for the second episode ("Vecna's Curse").

Okay, I am going to assume this is the name given to him by the kids similar to the way they've named other monsters after D&D. But I thought that Vecna was unique to D&D which is different from previous seasons.

I had already seen most of these clips from the official Stranger Things Facebook page but it's great to see them all altogether here.

Suffice to say, no matter the animation style (all of them here are fantastic), Stranger Things obviously works brilliantly as an 80s Saturday morning cartoon of my childhood!

That was pretty fun, though some of the art styles were pretty modern, I was expecting something more old school.

Mind flayers/illithids are unique to D&D as far as I know? (albeit I don't think the Stranger Things one was much like the D&D ones)

The Duffer brothers said they have talked about doing spin-offs but nothing is set:

“In terms of if we were to do any sort of a spinoff, or any continuation of Stranger Things, for us the bar was always, ‘Is the idea exciting enough that we feel the pull of wanting to do it again?’,” Matt Duffer said. “I want to feel the pull of, ‘God, I really want to do this. I feel really, really excited about this.’ So that’s why we’re being careful about what that is and whether we move forward with it or not.”

Ross Duffer added, “The key for us is that it needs to feel like its own distinct thing, not that we’re just retreading what we’ve already done, because what would be the point of that? I do think we have something that could be pretty exciting. So we’ll see.” The duo also affirmed they would remain “heavily involved” if anyone else steps up to showrun spin-offs in their universe.

A few thoughts on the trailer:
  • Only decent use of a Journey song IMO.
  • Billy was born the year before me. I always knew this was "kids in the 80s", but really getting that this IS my generation felt like a gut punch!
  • WTF Max?
  • Why does David Harbor keep getting beaten up in Russian prisons?
I'm really looking forward to this! Seems it's going to be a cruel summer.

I believe Vecna (who actually looks a lot like he does in the books), Demogorgon, and Mind Flayers are all original to D&D (says the woman who's been playing for 30 years).

Demogorgon isn't actually; D&D codified him into a demon prince but the general idea of Demogorgon as an under worldly demon/deity has been around for over 1000 years. It probably started as a misreading of "Demiurge" by a monk.

Wikipedia lists both Mind Flayers and Vecna as original D&D creations with Flayers created by Gygax himself--although their idea is obviously inspired by Lovecraft.
