Stargate

I got the chance to talk to Dean Devlin at a convention several years ago (five, maybe?). He said at that time that he had bowed out, but to his knowledge, Roland Emmerich was still attempting to develop it. In the interval, I wouldn't be surprised if that has changed.

I like Stargate very much, but "any more"?
It was a show that was loved by a lot of Air Force members for the realistic display of the Air Force.
They even had a guy who advised them on stuff. And real generals for a guest spot.

By the time the Atlantis expedition launched, too many people were involved to realistically keep it a secret.
Plus, by then it also didn't make sense for Earth's governments to keep it a secret that the Ta'uri have become a major intergalactic power, beyond even the realms of Trek's Federation.

Some big spoilers here, but it's a hell of a scene.

I like Carlyle's contribution to the musical episode :D

Of course he's sung and danced in previous shows.

Your clip reminded me how bad TV got in the olden days

Don't get me wrong, the content is great, I watched OUAT on netflix, but having "abc" permanently on the screen and some pop up advert, and people actually spend valuable time with that?

Thank god for disruption. TV deserved to die.

I’m not talking about it being a secret. I’m talking about respect. The way the Air Force is displayed. The way Vala behaved, never would have happened in earlier seasons. It was embarrassing.

I mean, Vala wasn't Air Force so I wouldn't expect that at all. I don't recall anything that made me go "Oh, this is disrespectful" when it came to the Air Force. Maybe I'm misremembering, but as the show moved on the AF portions seemed less the focus, since Cam was the only AF officer, and the focus became on the Jaffa, and various other factions.

I liked how Daniel changed. He had a much a different rapport with Cam which made his Jack style wit a lot more fun.

I do think the Ori worlds were less varied so that made it feel more samey each week. The show would not reach the heights of early SG-1 that's for sure. But, I liked Cam so it made it totally worth while.

Yeah, I still enjoyed the last few seasons, but they did start getting a bit more repetitive.

I watch a lot of stuff on streaming, but still prefer TV.

The air force stuff sure; I was more talking about all of the English speaking ancient relocated humans...

1. Naquadah. Relatively free power. Oil is gone. Big oil is bankrupt in a couple months, and the global economy nose dives with it. Although they can't possibly have enough Naquadah to keep 5 billion people clement all year around if they had enough problems trying to keep their first warship's lights on. Goul'd worlds are small. Thousands of people, not billions.

2. Rings. Free/cheap global instantaneous transit. More bankruptcy in the freight and transportation industries. Watch the world go down the toilet.

3. Colonization. 3 billion people leave earth in the first ten years. The worlds systems are in place to support 5 billion, from the helpfulness of 5 billion. The world falls apart because the people who know how to do things have gone, and the people who make babies are gone too.

4. Stargate connecting to Garbage planets. I assume the Stargate would be in space or in orbit. In orbit of a sun? I suppose the collapse of the landfill industry wouldn't be awfully cataclysmic, and it's somewhere to put Garbage Island, but the hippies are going to scream about being green intergalactically.

5. Religion. Jesus was a Goul'd. Cope with that. Oh shit. Has every Pope been the same Goul'd since the Roman Catholic church began?

Excellent points. A sudden revelation would indeed let the world go lopsided.
However, the Stargate Program had years to prepare for a transition, e.g. they could gradually set up a few colonies like Atlantis before going all out.

Goa'uld only appeared to cover ancient religions.
Also, in the late 20th century and early 21st century, a significant portion of the US population would self-identify as Christian, particularly in armed forces. We never saw those have any crisis of faith over the course of the four TV shows.

Not the SGC's mandate.

The IOA?

Selfishly member-countries are going to manipulate disclosure to their own benefit somehow. And every faction has a conflicting plan at odds with their international brothers and sisters, on how disclosure is going to play out.

I remember at least one Christian world.

There was an Unas running about who looked like Satan and they were all fearful.

The second gate in Antarctica was used a little.

Hanson went mad, Sokar played the devil, and the population of the planet in Demons were Christian. As for aliens pretending to be the Abrahamic god, Teal'c said "I know of no Goa'uld capable of showing the necessary compassion or benevolence that I have read of in your Bible."

(Although some of God's deeds in the old testiment could well be Gouauldy)

"DEMONS" was the episode.

An interesting point about SG personnel not being shown with a crisis of faith.

Addendum:
I see you beat me to the post. And yes, Hanson was a good example of how easy it can be for someone to impersonate a deity to a less advanced people. Power corrupts, for sure.

That was an interesting line from Teal'c. Also, Sokar was poorly used.
