Stargate

I think that when the Wraith were introduced, they were really scary. The problem is when you introduce a villain powerful enough to defeat the Ancients, you've got to write a way to defeat them and bring them down a few pegs. Star Trek ran into the same problem with the Borg. And once the heroes defeat them, they never do have the same sense of danger.

After Atlantis brought the Wraith down to size, they were stuck. They had to bring back the Replicators. For some reason, exploration of the vast Pegasus galaxy took a back seat.

Wraith never felt like a legitimate threat to Earth to me. They were a legitimate threat to Atlantis because they had the numbers, but it never seemed if they actually made it to Earth and tried to make it their new feeding ground that they could defeat the power that Earth had by that point.

SG-1 was great right up until the end of season 7. The Wormhole Xtreme episodes were a distinct letdown.

Atlantis was my favourite, although even that could put out some shockers.

Universe was an attempt to cash in on the success of the superior, grittier BSG and - rightly - it failed miserably.

I think the episode the SGA writers killed Kolya was a waste of a good character.
I had no problems with them killing him but it should have been in a better written episode.

Does anyone else yell out SHO’VA when you get betrayed in board games where betrayal is a thing?

This is going to sound rediculous but there’s a song in the charts called ‘no more sad songs’ and I honestly thought the lyrics were “Sho’va” then some kind of mumbling. It was only when I was Singing to my friend she corrected me.

I loved SG-1. It had a great combo of chemistry between the main characters, action, humor and some really touching moments as well (Daniel's ascension and Carter's dad dying). It also featured some terrific episodes. The show also had some epic two parters, like Reckoning Part 1 & 2. I also still loved season 9 and 10. The Ori arc was really good IMO.

SGA was also very good. I still love the concept and design of Atlantis. However, it never quite reached the same level of nostalgia as SG. The show had some great eps and some amazing finales but a lot of the episodes were forgetful for me.

SGU tried to be all dark and gritty like nuBSG and it kinda failed. The eps were well written and well acted and it actually did tell a good overall story arc if you were able to stick with it but the pacing was super slow and the difference in style compared to SG1 and SGA was rather jarring. What made SG1 and SGA so good IMO was the light hearted action and humor which was completely lacking in SGU.

Meh on the feature film, loved SG-1 and Atlantis passionately, wasn't a fan of Stargate Universe until season 2 which had it's moments.
Loved Stargate Universe......So disappointed when it got cancelled, leaving all those poor people between galaxies.

I think that was a fantastic, tragic ending. The final scene with the crew going into stasis. the ship powering down with the piano music...

That might be one of the core problems with Universe, they had really lofty ambitions and couldn't pull it off. Most of the characters were not compelling. Rush, great idea, if you pull it off, and they didn't. Eli was at least likable but there's no character he had chemistry with. Young, he was fine, but nothing that stood out as memorable. The rest I barely remember, there was some girl Eli liked who got murdered, another girl who got infected with some superpower thingy, that very acerbic civilian leader.

Then there was that part where Young had sex, while in somebody else's body without their permission, who then went back to his wife and had sex with his wife pretending to be him, which made them both weird and creepy. If that happened today we'd see it as Young raping Lou Diamond Phillips.

They aimed high and hit medium.

Stargate is one of my favorite films, and SG-1 is top shelf for films and how to world build. Despite a few downturns SG-1 kept me invested all the way through. I think they should have started a new show with Browder, and let him stretch his wings a little bit more, but I still enjoy his tenure as the leader.

Stargate: Atlantis was OK, but I really felt McKay and Sheppard really saved it. It didn't keep me all the way through but definitely had a lot of highlights.

Never got in to Universe.

I enjoyed SG1 a lot in its early years, not so much its later years. I didn't like the other two series.

Stargate Universe's second season was a lot better than the first and it was starting to get quite good. So it was a pity when it was cancelled but hey ho. I don't feel motivated to read any continuation in comic book form, however.

Stargate Atlantis had a serious dropoff in quality for the final couple of seasons. The showrunners made some bad choices and it hurt the show.

Stargate SG-1 was the best of the three series but it probably went on three seasons too long.

I think two and a half seasons too long, SG1 needed its main narratives properly concluded which season 8 did, but maybe should have been 6-10 eps.

If season 8 was ONLY the premiere, Avatar, and the last 4, it would have done its job better.

The only time I really thought “Atlantis was starting to get really good” was the first season midseason cliffhanger The Storm/The Eye. After that it never really got me excited again.

That's not what happened. The people on Earth that volunteered to host the people from Destiny knew that their bodies might be used to have sex with the Destiny crew's loved ones. Colonel Telford kept using every opportunity to switch with someone from Destiny so he could spy for the Lucian Alliance. When he switched with Colonel Young, Colonel Young went home and had sex with his wife. Destiny dropped out of FTL which interfered with the signal from the stones. Col. Telford found himself back in his own body for a few seconds in the middle of sex with Young's wife and I guess he liked it because he began visiting her.

I guess it depends whether the possibility of sex had been explicitly signed off on. If I volunteered my body to another person I’d be particular about their diet and health behavior while inhabiting it. I certainly would not consent to sex.

Don’t remember if it was explicitly stated in the show the vessels checked that particular box.

But LDP definitely pretended to be Young when he went back.

I thought that weird too it was the same with Camille Wray and her partner , yeah if the people who’s bodies they were in had agreed for their bodies to be used in that way then fair enough but would it not have been weird for the partners?

I usually tend to think too much about tv programmes

The SGC volunteers for body swapping signed consent forms...Yes, consent forms...
''We Volunteer to Do This''

If he signed off on it, it's not rape, but it's still kind of rude.

Borrowing somebody else's body and then having sex in it is kind of like staying in someone's house and having a wild party in it, then leaving it trashed.
