Stargate Continuum

I just watched Stargate Continuum. It was excellent. But I was left wondering about Ba'al's facility on Praxyon, and the "original" Cameron Mitchell. Wouldn't the original Mitchell try to warn the Stargate program about the facility on Praxyon, to keep it from falling into wrong hands like the Lucian Alliance now that Ba'al is gone, since it should be intact now that the timeline had been restored.

That's a good point. Maybe he left a sealed message, to be opened after Ba'al's execution.

"There is a time machine on P2U-201 that was built by Ba'al, which he used in a failed attempt to change history. Please blow it up, so none of you are trapped in the past like I was. Sincerely, alternate-timeline Mitchell."

Of course, it would've sucked if Ba'al only built his second time machine on Praxyon, and the original one he first used to go back to 1929 while his clone was being executed was on another planet entirely.

I often think about what happened to original Mitchell, he couldnt afford to get involved in world war II in case he killed someone who shouldnt have originally died, and he couldn't get in a relationship with someone in case it prevented a relationship they would have had with someone else, preventing someone being born.

We know he didnt manually dial the gate and get offworld, otherwise he couldnt have had his picture taken with his grandad next to the hole in the ship.

My guess is that he wouldnt take his own life, but he would carry on being a seaman in the dangerous submarine filled shipping lanes, and hope that eventually he would get sunk.

Either that or he went to be a hermit somewhere off in the wilderness.

If Stargate SG-1 was still a series, there'd be an interesting episode there in finding out what happened to alternate Mitchell. But, alas...

The events of Continuum caused a freak accident that somehow changed Mitchell so that he just couldn't die. So after helping Grampa fight Ba'al on the boat, Mitchell was recruited by the NID, where he continues to work. He's now the enigmatic commander of NID Outpost 3, who makes cryptic comments about how the 21st century is when everything changes...

Another thought came to me. How did Ba'al handle Anubis? Without Daniel asking Oma to stand up to him in that "waffle place", I don't see how Ba'al could have stopped him.

My guess is that since Ba'al knew what Anubis was up to, he would have positioned himself to counter anything Anubis would throw at him. For example, maybe he destroyed Dakarra or eliminated the supersoldiers before they could be created.

I agree. That's probably what he did with Sokar too. Ba'al could have also assembled the anti-ascended being device and killed Anubis and the other ascended beings in the Milky Way.

Red alert! Understanding plot fail!

The device on Praxion was not a time machine, it was a database connected to galaxy wide satellites used to determine where solar flares were occuring. After determining where the next was going to be you had to gate to that world and then gate through again from that gate to pass through the flare.

Not a prayer, there were numerous tests required in order to even get to Merlin and THEN it was merlin who began its construction. Baal could never in a quadrillion years build that device.

On a seperate note when Baal was on the phone to the president I knew that Quetesh would stick a knife in his back, it was just completely obvious it was going to happen. I mean who the hell turns their back on another Goa'uld?

But Baal from the future knew his way around all of the traps and Merlin was long since dead all Baal had to was put one of his own people though the learning device and figure out to make the Ancient killling device.

Or the simplest thing to do would be to go back in time to before Anubis was half ascended, and just kill him as a mortal.

You don't even need to find him, you could just torch the world he lived on, its not like Gouald worry about collateral damage.

Oh, I'm sorry. It's not a time machine. It was merely a machine which facilitated travel through time. Which was explicitly called, by Carter, a "time machine."

And while determining where solar flares were occurring, the user interface conveniently told the operator what "time" a wormhole in that direction would go to. Not because it was a time machine, or anything. It just thought maybe you'd like to know. ;)

Technically it isn't a time machine, I see his point. Technically it is simply a machine that exploits a fault in the Stargates when not using the DHD failsafes correctly, it is the Stargates that are doing the time travling, not the device. The machine just tells you when its the right time to step through. It is akin to the Aschen computer in 2010 predicting the solar flare and telling you when to step through the gate, the Aschen computer wasn't the time machine.

Pretty much is a time machine then.

If it barks like a dog and pees like a dog(Oops, I mean looks like a dog), well, it certainly aint a cat, y'know?

I am completely and utterly gob smacked that you all believe it was a time machine when it clearly wasn't, IT WAS A SENSOR! IT WAS A DATABASE! IT WAS A COMPUTER! Nothing more and nothing less. The only thing causing any time travel was the Stargate.

In the film Mitchell turned around and said "so it's a time machine" and Sam said no it was a collection of data obtained from satellites placed all around the galaxy telling where the next solar flare was going to be.

As for Baal getting the anti acended device. I give up, how anyone can think it's even remotely possible for him to get the device is bonkers. Do you guys even remember EVERYTHING they had to go through to get to Merlin?

I am so glad there is someone here with intelligence.

But Baal remembers it all as well and he knew where it was to start out with all he need to do was to get there before the traps were even set.
