Starcraft / Michael Dorn question

MyCylon

Rear Admiral
I've been playing the original Starcraft in English recently (used to play the German version). What struck me was that the Goliath totally sounds like Michael Dorn.

Now, I did a quick internet search but wasn't able to find any truly reliable statements as to whether or not he actually voiced this particular unit. All I found were some comments in forums here and there. The cast list doesn't seem to include him. But it just really, really sounds like him, I think.

So, does anybody here know whether or not the Goliath in the original Starcraft is voiced by Michael Dorn or not?

Moby lists the following voice actors in Starcraft:

Allen Adham, Tracy W. Bush, Robert Clotworthy, Paul Eiding, Michael Gough, James W. Harper, Jason Hayes, Tiffany Hayes, Harley D. Huggins II, Chris Metzen, Lani Minella, Micky Neilson, James Page, Jack Ritschel, Jorge Rivero, Bill Roper, Matthew Samia, Glenn Stafford, Duane Stinnett, Glynnis Talken, Paul W. Sams.

Looks like at least some of that voice work was done on the cheap.

According to IMDB Harry Shearer voiced "Science Vessel".
The science vessel's voice sounds like someone doing a Monty Burns impersonation. ("Fusion, eh?") He's not listed in the cast, and I wouldn't trust IMDb on this without some proof.

As for the Goliath:
Bill Roper ... Fenix / Zasz / Vulture / Goliath (voice)

Harry Shearer does voice Monty Burns though, are you suggesting they guessed based on that?
I'm suggesting that whomever listed Shearer as the voice of the science vessel was either joking or confused.

I'm not nixing the possibilty that he did an uncredited cameo. It just sounds more like an impersonation.

Wow, I didn't expect this many responses. Thanks, guys!

"Goliath online!"

Okay, that's the only line for that unit I can remember.

And it's the one that sounds most like Michael Dorn, I think.

IMDB is listing video game work now. You could start there.

Already checked that, no joy, unfortunately.

Definitely, yes :D. Fortunately, the game doesn't suffer for it. Quite the contrary, actually, I think.

I'd also seen that list around somewhere. And indeed, no Michael Dorn to be seen.

I can tell you without looking, yes it is Michael Dorn.

I agree that it totally sounds like him. The only thing I don't understand is: Wouldn't they have advertised the game with him back then? I mean it came out 1998. So Dorn would have already been very popular at that time.

Unless, of course, they couldn't actually afford to have him to it but he was friends with somebody at Blizzard and just did it for fun. Hence no listing in the credits.

As for the Goliath:
Bill Roper ... Fenix / Zasz / Vulture / Goliath (voice)

I suppose the question is: Can this Roper (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msgfMzaS3ek) sound like this http://starcraft.site.voila.fr/Terran08.htm (btw: You'll also find the French voice acting there as well :D)?

All the evidence certainly seems to point in that direction. Still, it's uncanny how much the "Goliath online" in particular sounds like Dorn, I think. The other lines, admittedly, not quite as much. Roper does seem to have a reasonably deep voice. Plus they've distorted it anyway so they might have actually made it a little deeper than it really is.

The same guy didn't by chance do the MJ12 Commandos in Deus Ex, did he?

While trying the remember other things the Goliaths say, the only thing that came to mind was "Radar's off the scale. What's the deal?" which isn't even from the same game.....

I always thought that the "Goliath Online" voice was Michael Dorn as well and the Science Vessel voice was Monty Burns as well.

So I was looking through the unit quotes for Starcraft and came across something interesting. One of the lines for the Dropship is "in case of a water landing, you may be used as a flotation device," which seems like an obvious reference to Star Trek: Insurrection, particularly in light of the plethora of quotes for other units (Medic, Battlecruiser) that are most certainly derived from Star Trek. Only thing is, Starcraft predated Insurrection by a good part of a year. What's up with that?
