Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - New Single Player, Story Driven Game

I never got around to the second one, I might try to get a used copy at GameStop one day.
I never got around to either of them, though I am tempted every time they come up in a steam sale. That said, they don't appear to have aged terribly well and if I'm brutally honest, the gameplay looks a little shallow.

And yes, Outcast was great and easily the best of the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games. I know some rate Academy higher because of the improved sabre combat (which is fair) it still always felt like more of an expansion pack than a game in it's own right and I always felt the writing was much weaker.

I have played Force Unleashed I and II. Fun games with insanely amped up force powers, slinging around TIE Fighters in a hangar is always fun. Bought the first one new, didn't play the second one until last year when it came up as a Deals With Gold promo thing on Xbox Live.

Really enjoyed BFII (the 2005 one). Was an avid player of Star Wars Galaxies, but we all know of the mismanagement that plagued that game. And I did enjoy the Rogue Squadron series, even though I much prefer the sim feel of the X-Wing games.

I guess it is my age and the memories I have tied up in the older SW games, and the guilds I used to game with which began with XvT, and Dark Forces Jedi Knight, and ended with Outcast, that's probably why I have fond memories of those particular games.

I'm interested. I haven't played Force Unleashed 2 (and only a little bit of the first on wii) but I was a big fan of the earlier Star Wars games and got all the PC ones back in the day. I still play Kotor 1 & 2, Outcast and Academy fairly regularly.

I keep meaning to get the Unleashed games on pc.

Back when I was having medical issue and wasn't able to go to school, I spent hours playing the Jedi Academy multiplayer pretty much every day.

This looks promising, but I agree with some games journos that they missed a trick by not letting you customise the main character. They could still use Gotham-kid as the default male and have a default female appearance and VA too (OMG Maisie Williams!!!) but the voices would still work even if you changed the skin tone or even the species provided they stick to ones like Twi'leks, Agruta, or any of the SW races that don't canonically have altered voice effects.

If Mass Effect could give you a customisable Shep whilst still having brand recognition for the default characters because a bunch of folks are lazy and just go with what the game gives them, this could do it. Even better here as "Cal" works for both male and female characters so no need to alter NPC dialogue.

It seems like they're trying to tell an in-canon story (as everything is supposed to be these days), so that does indeed necessitate the main character having a fixed appearance. With that in mind, the only kinds of games where custom PCs make sense are ones with a minimal narrative component, which pretty much rules out RPGs as a whole.

^Or ones where you are given are given complete or almost complete control of the character's personality/dialogue like in RPGs like Mass Effect or Knights of the Old Republic.

Even games with multiple choices were given 'canon' appearances/stories in later content.

Yep, so no reason not to give the players a chance to create their own story, even if canon later overrules it.

Hell, I don't bitch that The Day Of The Doctor overwrote my Dr. Who fanfic Time Lord's deal with the devil (Omega) to save Gallifrey. I just made him a living paradox since his own history is now divergent from the Doctor's. Which opens up whole new stories.

They confirmed during the presentation that there won't be a darkside ending.

I jumped around a bit so I didn't watch the whole thing, but what I did see looks pretty good. This is exactly the kind of SW game I've been looking for for a while now.

Just so long as everyone keeps in mind that generally speaking, alpha gameplay footage demos that get exhibited at shows like this are usually a load of bullcrap. Wait for the release reviews, or at least an actual demo.

The game does come out in 5 months, so I would think this would be at least fairly close to the final product.
Having said that, I will still wait to see what kind of reaction the final game gets. Even if they don't totally change things, there are still plenty of time where the game looks great in demos, but then ends up sucking when it comes out.

Looks nice, but why does he seem to run so sluggishly? It's weird, because I don't trust demo gameplay released as a promo, but shouldn't the promo try to put it in the best possible light? I'm already worried, and I was one of the ones that kind of enjoyed Battlefront II. (I only played the story parts, not online.)

Meanwhile, on the light side of the Force...

I saw the trailer for Fallen Order yesterday. Looks okay, not sure it is something I'm going to rush out and spend sixty dollars on.

They showed a new trailer during the X-Box presentation at E3.

Am I crazy, or does the Jedi on the cover of the tie-in comic look like Tony Amendola? I haven't seen any mention of him being in the game (though it'd have to be a flashback.) Is it possible he's been cast in some other Pre-Clone Wars era project? I suppose it's possible the artist just decided to use his face for the character...
