Star Trek VI - Kirk v Kirk

Kirk loved himself, that was the reference.

And why wouldn't he?

^ I do have a tendency to bring this up at the slightest provocation  but I enjoy doing so, as I think it's important to give Shat a bit of humanity and not portray him as absolute evil like we always keep hearing about.
Agreed. STV has its problems, but they're largely a flawed story and lackluster special effects. The direction and the cinematography are both quite good.

I think David Gerrold had said it best. Back when they were filming the original series, Bill was the captain of the team. He made it a fun set and he kept it light and the people had a fun time doing the show.
Gerrold has said that all the Shatner bashing is in fact revisionist history. And yes, I loved the Kirk vs. Kirk homage to the original series and the references to Kirk's overactive libido and his possibly swelled head.
