Star Trek: TMP complete score coming June 5th!!

More guests have been added to the panel at the TMP event on June 4 in Hollywood! Richard Kraft (agent/friend of Jerry Goldsmith), Richard Kline (director of photography) and Mark Mangini (sound effects editor).

Now I know why he din't win the oscar - it was the hip-hop soundtrack year. He was a little too whitey plus a name like Gold smith.

Why is the film version of "The Meld" counted among the alternates? I thought all the tracks on disc 1 and the start of 2 were the film versions.

I believe that the Film Version of "The Meld" has to do with added elements that were not present during the recording sessions. In the film where the actual melding is taking place, there is a really loud pulsing sound effect that gets louder and louder as Spock gets closer to touching the sensor. Those sound effects are not in any album presentation and I believe it is those sound effects that will be incorporated into that specific track for this release.

As to why it's in the alternates and not the complete film score presentation? Probably because La-La Land wanted to preserve and showcase the score as it was recorded in the studios without the last minute added elements thrown in that Goldsmith didn't take part in.

You're talking about "Spock Walk". Have you ever even listened to TMP? ;)

Neil

It's an understandable mistake to confuse "The Meld" (the cue for the merger of V'Ger, Decker, and Ilia) with "Spock Walk," because a Trek fan seeing the word "meld" will automatically think of "mind meld."

The fact that you described the wrong scene.

I got the wrong track, but at least I didn't mock the user who posted the question.

Oh that was just harmless fun. Would you believe I asked Jeff Bond the very same question last night? You're in good company.

Also, I answered the issue of the film version of "The Meld" right here in this thread. :)

*clears throat*

Sorry... Guess I was still peeved over that "Real World Problems" issue. And thanks for clarifying how the film version is different.

Ordered my tickets. A friend and I couldn't say no to the event -- and that's coming from two people who are pretty ambivalent about the movie. Looking forward to it all the same (and it will be interesting to see the movie, especially the DE, with an audience).

Wish I could be there, and wish they would green-light Darren and the team for a Bluray release of TMP:DE already.
