Star Trek: Secret Voyage

This is my understanding: Star Trek: Secret Voyage hopes to release Part 1 of 2 of of their pilot at the end of February 2012 and Part 2 of 2 at the end of March. Each are about an hour long.

Thanks for the information, Barb! I'm looking forward to seeing those episodes. :bolian:

I got the chance to talk to Craig, the executive producer, and it was a great call. He is smart engaging and passionate. He actually reached out to me after my recent bad experience with a certain individual, and I appreciated his support.

What Craig is doing is pretty cool. Just goes to show you don't need a bridge set to make good Trek. I already offered to come and help out.

Oh yeah, and he has 3,000 Likes on Facebook. New Voyages has 7,000, Farragut under 500.

So bully for Craig!

Likes on Facebook doesn't translate to anything but having likes on Facebook.

Totally disagree. It shows an ability to market oneself first. How did Secret Voyage, a production that hasn't even released an episode get so many Likes when Farragut, which is 5 or 6 years old, has 1/6 that many? Marketing. Business is distribution. Some businesses know how to market themselves, and some don't. Secret Voyages does.

Second, it shows potential viewers.

And as someone who got 10,000 Likes in 3 months and was able to convert that into attendance at an event, I can vouch for the real world effect of Likes on Facebook.

Nice soundbite though. Just isn't true.

"Likes" show the number of people who are interested in a production. Being that this is a Star Trek fan-film, it is going to garner some interest on Facebook. I doubt that much marketing was involved. So far, I haven't seen anything yet besides some minimal CGI in a trailer, and some headshots of the actors at the website. It is still pretty early to tell just what kind of a production this will end up being. Nevertheless, I very much look forward to seeing it when it's done.

I'm not saying that getting your stuff out there and marketing it isn't a good idea. I'm saying that Facebook likes don't necessarily correlate to views of the finished product. I've done a number of music videos for a singing group that are primarily promoted via Facebook through fans/likes of the group and a mailing list, and even with that built-in "base of likes", if you will, there's very little consistency to the overall viewership. The most successful one got something like 50,000 views in three days because it was topical and people shared it. Another video for the same group did a 10th that in the same time period.

Just here to spread the word and answer any questions about the production. Ill take any form of medium available, social or otherwise. Beyond that I'm sure we can all benefit from one anothers thoughts and experiences. Here's to a happy and prosperous new years.
