"The members of Protostar accompanied by MaJ'el will embark on a secret mission not covered by Starfleet in order to exfiltrate Wesley Crusher and Ilthuran both in the hands of Ascencia on Solum." - Cygnus-X1.Net

Tysess is no longer geriatricised in this episode, did the EMH de-age him between episodes?
I probbly got distracted during a log entry explaining this.

I don't think I like the idea of Wesley planned to be captured. It kind of doesn't mix well with the whole battle against Voyager and the Protostar and Wesley putting everyone through that. Is this show tempting fate? I'm kinda worried that this is the first misstep of the season. Please someone convince me I'm wrong because I really want to be wrong.

Just goes to show you that even Time Lords mess up. They aren't perfect.

I liked the part where Gwyn got angry at Wesley for using everyone as part of his plan, but it felt a bit like he got off easy. Lots of people were erased from history when the Loom attacked Voyager! I don't think it's ever confirmed that they came back at the end of the season.

Unless they jumped timelines…
ETA: Or is it realities? Again, Wesley is mostly a Doctor Who, a little Doc Brown and a pinch of Rick Sanchez.

He said something about a week's treatment in something would cure him
Yes, a very accurate prediction of course, or it would have been if the episodes where still released weekly on P+ ;)

Yes, it's a really wild idea but it ties into the whole "only one way that will work" thing. Which is really a shortcut/excuse for the showrunners to follow the plot they want to follow (and using the budget they have, which means the amount of characters and places they can show is limited). So I don't mind, though in-universe Wesley is of course reckless and this is also pointed out to him by other characters.

With the emphasis on "you have to stay together", the whole thing reminds me of the Wheel of time books/TV-series, were some people are said to be "ta'veren" which basically means that they are main characters and the plot (and coincidences) revolve around them (thanks to "the pattern", that is, the plot).

That "Short Range" Cloak Generator would be useful for so many missions.
I wonder if that violates the "Treaty of Algeron"?
This mission violates a lot of things, but then all of those things are stupid or used dogmatically. Not using cloak is dumb, the prime directive is evil at times (as it may be in case of Solum's situation, indeed) and sending in de-facto cadets but pretending they're not Starfleet (as if Ascencia wouldn't know exactly who they were and who send them) is probably not allowed either. It's an amateur take at a section-31 job, but as we know for most Starfleet captains the rules are merely guidelines.

The way the Protogies moved through the city was bit too much played for laughs to my taste (surely they are by now more than smart enough to come up with something less obviously doomed to failure), and that they get caught eventually is not much of a surprise. What is surprising is that the astronomer apparently can be a leading figure in a rebellion against the military takeover of Solum. I still wonder just how politics on Solum work.
