Not my favorite episode of the season, but still quite strong. This really is a gorgeous series to look at. The sandstorm and the crystal singing scene were beautiful. I think the other thing I noticed is these creators, The Hagemans really know their trek, quoting the rules of Acquisition, coming up with a great theme and moral about realizing who your real friends are at the end and now putting Dal and Gwyn on equal footing. We also got a little more about the Protostar, finding out Drednock has been on the ship before, and I guess we will see Nandi again. I'm not really a fan of most farengi episodes so I thought Nandi was kind of annoying and brought the episode down a little. She did serve a purpose to explore Dal's backstory though so it wasn't all bad. Prodigy still continues to be the best of the new treks so far.

I'll give this an 8.

Another great episode of Prodigy.

Nandi is a real piece of work, and meeting her tells us a lot about Dal and his upbringing. ‪‪I continue to love all of these characters, and Murf continues to steal scenes.

They’ve made me consistently excited for the next installment with each episode.

And seeing Drednok was part of the boarding party in Chakotay’s recording seems to confirm my suspicion that the Vau N’Akat were who were invading the Protostar.

Pretty good episode. I was a little struck with wonder at the visuals. And the gift of music was so touching.

I will amend my assessment of Brett Gray's acting some. Some of Dal's quieter moments hit well for me this episode. I'm sure we could see Nandi's betrayal from a mile away, but I felt really bad for him. He's just a kid, and I can't imagine this trauma wouldn't have lifelong impact on his ability to trust.

I also give Dal credit for his quick-thinking with the badge. And Pog with his impressively precise control of the transporter.

I noticed that the transporter VFX was the Kelvin-verse version.

And what is murf made of?

It survives multiple photon grenades exploding inside of him.

It can survive the vacuum of space.

Whatever it's made of, it's ridiculously strong and tough.

The gooey material that is his body would make GREAT body armor.

I loved it.

The series continues to be gorgeous, and it becomes Trekier every week.

Incidentally, that Dec 2020 Illuminerdi leak described Nandi as...

Our 3rd character is Nandi. This is an interesting one. Nandi is a female Ferengi in her 50s. Like many other Ferengis we’ve met, she’s a flamboyant, toothy privateer. Also, much like other Ferengi, she’s able to convince people into thinking she’s a trusted ally, but has her own agenda and isn’t afraid of betraying the people around her.

Not as good as last week. but still pretty good, so an 8. The Ferengi was a bit of an annoying character to keep watching throughout.

I loved that the new species communicated in a very alien way. :D

Janeway seemed hurt by Dal's betrayal last week. :( I did also like her investigation into what happened with Chakotay and the Protostar.

There was that energy being that impregnated Troi. Don't know whether it was capable of FTL but was certainly capable of freespacing.

I’ve never been a huge fan of the Prime Directive, which in retrospect seems condescending. It’s even less fitting here. Here you have a ship full of vulnerable, gullible orphaned kids, albeit on an immensely powerful salvage ship, with powerful enemies. Suddenly THEY are supposed to be worrying about the Prime Directive? Janeway is a hologram, programmed with Starfleet protocols, but the actual Janeway would probably have different answers to give these kids who desperately need help. The alien civilization might have had help to offer them if they explained their situation.

Nandi the Ferengi is as despicable as one would expect.

I don't see how the PD is condescending or less fitting here. They ARE on a SF ship with a training advisor whose flseh and blood alter-ego served in Starfleet for a long time and is one of the most decorated officers.
You're kinda stuck with the notion that SF ideals and rules will be something Janeway will be quoting... and she thought/thinks they are still cadets in training for SF... knowing about the PD is kinda a prerequisite.

And Janeway has a point that meddling in less advanced species evolution could have dire consequences.
In fact, even after they returned the crystal, the kids left a commbadge behind. That could easily result in some problems down the line (remember the ENT episode with the lost communicator?).
Albeit, this particular species didn't seem too aggressive... but we don't know how this could evolve.

Distance and time remain interesting, even amazing. How far afield in the Gamma Quadrant is this Ferengi pirate? Did Nandi meet Dal in these outer reaches or closer to the space held by the Ferengi Alliance? A female Ferengi DaiMon before Dal was sold to the mine begs the question: was Nandi disguising herself as male before Rom became Nagus? Are her traditionally male-sized ears STILL a disguise, and if so, for whose benefit?

Exciting to see a D'Kora landing- or is it a smaller class of ship in a classic shape?

Pik-Pok as a Ferengi version of the ExoComp is also intriguing, as is the inter-quadrantal communications reach of the Rev-12. Incidentally, while googling Rev-12 I found the biblical Revelations 12 with a war in the heavens and a dragon that knocks the stars out of the sky. Curious!

Nandi of the Damsel might be only the third on-screen lady Ferengi? Therefore, it's worth questioning my assumptions about ear size based solely on Pel from 'Rules of Acquisition'. And Quark's ear reduction in 'Profit and Lace'.

Didn't the real Janeway smash the Prime Directive to all sorts of bits every other week while yet somehow reciting it as a guiding principle?

Given the circumstances VOY was in, what some people class as 'Prime Directive violations' were really circumstances out the crew's hands.
Someone named maybe 12 times VOY broke the PD... but when you think about this, its kind of of like a difficult position and I'm not sure most of those even count as real violations - otherwise, no SF ship would be allowed to interact with ANY alien species (let alone have them become UFP members) or provide humanitarian aid.

I think people have blown out of proportion Janeway's actions in the DQ (especially when you consider the premise that Kirk, Picard and Sisko all broke the PD themselves).
Janeway had it even more difficult being out in the DQ without backup.
Sisko should have probably been imprisoned as a war criminal for killing a Romulan Ambassador... but let's just ignore that.

Oh and ST: Insurrection was one MASSIVE violation of the PD after another... which wasn't even started by the Enterprise, but rather a SF admiral was cooperating with the Sona to exploit a planet for its potential regenerative properties and were willing to relocate 600 people (that's a clear cut violation). And heck, even the Federation Council initially approved this.

Yes, the ENT crew intervened, but, shouldn't they have stopped the Sona, apprehended the admiral and get the heck out of the Briar patch ASAP?

Trek is full of PD violations when you think about how its worded.
By the very notion, PD would prohibit SF from exploring, otherwise they risk interfering with any other foreign civilization.
I mean, how far into the extreme shall we go?
