Star Trek New Voyages DVDs

Copyright infringement is illegal whether or not there is any profit. People are guessing that the fan films haven't been shut down because no money is being exchanged, but it's illegal regardless.

Actually, I believe New Voyages at least has an "understanding" of some sort with Paramount. I don't recall the specifics, but there have been conversations.

The others are probably just assuming the same rules apply to them.

Rest assured that when you see Starship Farragut at a convention we will have DVD's on hand to pass out free of charge. All of the producers involved burn hundreds of DVD's to this effort. Feel free to copy them and pass them around.

All we ask is that you do not sell them.

Thanks,

Michael Bednar

Aren't you guys worried about people turning around and duplicating/selling them on E-Bay?

Rob

Darn good question! And it's okay with Paramount if you make these DVDs and distribute them?

Hey Rob,

To be honest with you; Yes, we are worried and we do stress that no one duplicates them for the purpose of selling them. We have been to conventions and found that some people cannot control their greed and feel it necessary to sell our work. While flattering that someone would pay $20.00 for our DVD we don't get a dime.

I'd just like to make sure that everyone knows this. If you know that we are going to be at a convention, we WILL have DVD's available for FREE. The money we make at our day jobs goes to pay for all the DVD's ink for printing and the DVD cases. We spare no expense to put Farragut's good name out there to the public. No one makes any money off of it. Trust me my bank account will show it.

As for Paramount/CBS. I would hope that they don't have a problem with it since none of us are making any money on it. We put the files up on the internet for all to see. This in itself is distribution just the same as giving away a DVD. Let's be honest here. It doesn't take much to make a DVD since all of our files are provided free of charge. I believe we even have an .iso file available that has all the menus and trailers included. However, if the powers that be issue a C&D on the DVD's, we'll stop. We could use the money elsewhere.:)
