Stardate 58028.95 (January 13:40 Federation Standard Starship Time.)
USS Mjolnir docked with Spacedock
Earth orbit, Sector 001, United Federation of Planets

“Captain’s Personal Log Stardate 58028.95

After a month of being back in Federation space the Mjolnir is about to leave Spacedock. After off-loading our Boov passengers the first week back was filled with debriefings for mahself and mah crew regarding our unexpected trip tae the Beta Quadrant. After that ah spent the next two weeks playing tourist and taking in the sights o’ Earth with Navesh while the Corps of Engineers went over the Mjolnir with a fine toothed comb and performed some systems. A few days ago Navesh and ah returned tae the ship tae get ready for our launch tomorrow. Once we leave Spacedock we’re scheduled tae make a run tae Proxima Centauri tae deliver some medical supplies tae Proxima Colony’s central hospital.”

Once he finished speaking Callum pressed a control on the desktop to stop the recording and file the log entry in the computer database. Once the computer had filed the log entry away Callum reached for the mug of iced raktajino on his desktop going to take a sip from the mug. Finding that mug was empty Callum sighed and stood up before he walked around the desk to the alcove that contained the replicator and the door that led to the ready room’s private head.

Standing up Callum started walking towards the replicator and said, “Computer, give me another lime pick-a-pop”

Once the clear bottle of bubbly green liquid shimmered into existence on the replicator’s receiving platform Callum picked the mug up off of the receiving platform and placed the empty one on the receiving platform before he pressed the recycle button to dematerialize it and send its molecules to the raw matter storage tanks before he turned away from the replicator. Walking over to his desk Callum sat down in the seat behind the desk and took a long drink of the iced Klingon coffee in the mug. As he set the mug down Callum’s combadge chirped to indicate he had a waiting hail. Tapping his combadge with his right hand to open the channel Callum spoke to give whoever was hailing him permission to speak as he leaned back in the seat behind his desk.

“MacLeod, go ahead.” Callum said.

“Its me.” Navesh’s voice said coming from Callum’s combadge, “I was wondering if you wanted to join me in holodeck two.”

“Sure, I’ll meet you there right away. MacLeod out” Callum said before he tapped the combadge to close the channel.

Standing up and walking around the ready room desk Callum walked out of the ready room and onto the Mjolnir’s roughly circular bridge and past the dedication plaque on his left and the Ops station on his right and continued past the viewscreen and the helm before passing the bridge’s replicator and walking into the conference room. Seeing the Mjolnir’s Holographic Emergency Command and Tactical Operations Response program begin to stand up from where he was sitting in the center seat Callum waved him back into the seat as he continued walking across the bridge.

“The bridge is still yours. Ahm just passing through, Ah’ll be in holodeck two if ye need me .” Callum said to the hologram, who was serving as the officer of the watch while the ship was in Spacedock, as he walked past the helm station and towards the turbolift alcove on the port side of the bridge.

“Aye, sir.” The hologram, which looked like the legendary Starfleet Officer Captain Christopher Pike with a five o’clock shadow, said as Callum headed for the bridge’s single turbolift alcove which was located on the port side of the bridge.

Walking into the turbolift car once its doors whooshed open Callum ordered it to take him to his cabin causing the doors to whoosh closed and begin moving. Tapping his foot on the traction carpet as the turbolift glided through the Mjolnir’s turbolift tubes towards the deck five turbolift alcove closest to holodeck two. Once the turbolift eased to a stop Callum stepped out into the corridor and, after a moment’s paused that he used to get his bearings, began walking down the corridor to his right until he reached the double doors of holodeck two.

Seeing that a program was running on the holodeck Callum walked into the holodeck. Once Callum walked into the holodeck its double door whooshed closed behind them as he saw Navesh standing ten feet away from the door. Once the door had whooshed closed behind him and the computer hid the doorway with a holographic image of a sand dunes and a cliff face in the distance.

“What a gorgeous view.” Callum said as he stood there and looked at Navesh standing there on the holographic tropical beach.

Looking at Callum and seeing that he was looking at her and not the beach Navesh said, “You’re not looking at the beach; you’re looking at me.”

“Ah ken.” Callum said with a chuckle and a grin on his face, “An’ ah stand by mah statement.”

=/\= Chapter Two =/\=

Stardate 58036.5 (January 14 2381, 07:48 Federation Standard Starship Time.)
USS Mjolnir docked with Spacedock
Earth orbit, Sector 001, United Federation of Planets

The next morning Callum walked out of the turbolift onto the Mjolnir’s bridge a few steps behind Damrus, Nerah, Gratakka, Navesh and Vhela. As the rest of the alpha shift bridge crew walked towards their stations to assume them Callum walked towards the captain’s chair to relieve the ship’s Holographic Emergency Command and Tactical Operations Response program. As Callum approached the center seat he watched as the HECTOR program stood up and stepped to the side of the captain’s chair.

“Quiet shift?” Callum asked.

“Yes, sir.” The HECTOR program replied, “The engineering personnel from Spacedock finished their upgrades and disembarked at oh-one-hundred-thirty-five hours. The medical supplies for Proxima colony were transported onboard at oh-one-hundred-thirty-seven hours and have been stowed in cargobay two.”

Adopting a more formal tone and stance Callum said, “The bridge is mine.”

“I stand relieved.” The HECTOR program said formally relinquishing command of the bridge. Continuing on he said, “If you wouldn’t mind, sir.”

“Not at all.” Callum said knowing what the hologram was requesting, “Computer, deactivate the Emergency Command and Tactical Holographic Program.”

As the hologram disappeared in a flash of holographic static Callum sat down in the captain’s chair and looked at the chronometer on the arm rest of the captain’s chair before he said, “All stations report.”

“All offensive and defensive systems are operational and are on hot standby and ready for use.” Gratakka reported from the tactical station.

“Primary and secondary systems are fully operational, as are their back ups.” Navesh reported from the ops station after turning to face Callum in the center seat.

“Warp and impulse drives as well as the maneuvering thrusters are online and ready for use.” Nerah reported after turning from the helm to look at Callum once Tejin had finished speaking.

“All sensors as well scientific sub-systems are online.” Vhela reported from the science station.

“The Intelligence database and holo-mask are ready for use at anytime.” Malcolm said from the Intelligence and combat tracking station.

“Internal and external communications systems are online and ready for use, sir.” Damrus reported as he sat at the first officer and communications system.

“Very good, everyone.” Callum said as he turned to face the viewscreen. “Commander Rel, are we fully crewed?”

“Almost, sir. According to the computer only one crewmember hasn’t come onboard yet.” Damrus said from his spot at the first officer and communications station as his blue fingers danced across the console, “One of our security personnel was involved in a bit on an… incident… that just occured. Apparently an Altoran was getting a bit to touchy with one of the waitresses in the station’s bar. That’s when our man intervened; the Altoran is in Spacedock’s brig and our man is giving a statement to security after which he’ll transport onboard.”

“Who was it that was?” Callum asked with an exasperated sigh.

“Chief Petty Officer Ez’targic.” Damrus replied.

“At least he’s consistent.” Callum said with a sigh and a chuckle.

“The chief does seem to have quite the knack for being around when drunks are getting touchy feely with the fairer sex.” Damrus said with a chuckle.

“Aye, that he does indeed.” Callum with a chuckle in his thick Scottish brogue.
=/\=
Ten minutes minutes later Damrus was sitting at the first officer and communications station whe he spoke up saying, “Captain, transporter room one has reported that Chief Ez’targic is now onboard.”

“Understood, Commander.” Callum said, “Signal for all hands tae assume their departure stations an’ get Spacedock’s Ops on the comm-link.”

A moment later he continued on saying, “Spacedock Ops is standing by.”

“Spacedock operations, this is the Mjolnir. We are requesting permission to depart.” Callum said as he shifted as he sat in the Mjolnir’s center seat.

“Mjolnir this is Spacedock Operations. You are cleared for departure. We are opening the bay doors and transmitting an exit flight plan now, maintain thrusters at one half until you are clear of our superstructure and do not exceed one quarter impulse until you clear the outer marker.” The voice of the female dock master on duty said coming from the bridge’s overhead comm speaker.

“Understood, Spacedock Operations. Thank-you. Mjolnir out.” Callum replied.

“Captain, all hatches and ports are secure. External inertial dampener is off-line, umbilicals have been retracted and we are operating on our own power.” Navesh reported from the Operations station on the port side of the bridge.

“Understood, Commander Tymoshenko” Callum said. Continuing on Callum said, “Lieutenant Nerah, activate the bow thrusters and back us out of our berth.”

“Aye, sir.” Nerah said as his fingers danced across the helm console as he guided the Mjolnir’s movements. A moment later he continued on saying, "We have cleared the berth, Captain."

"Understood, bring us about and put us in the exit lane for departure." Callum said as he sat in the Mark VII Command Chair in the center of the Mjolnir’s bridge.

"Aye, aye, sir. Coming about... thrusters ahead one-half. Altering course heading to one one five mark zero. . . we are in the lane and ready for departure." Nerah said as he guided the Mjolnir's movements causing the viewscreen to show a changing view of the interior of Spacedock’s cavernous docking bay three.

On the enormous viewscreen on the bridge’s forward bulkhead the massive doors slowly opened ahead of Mjolnir. Leaning back in his chair Callum rested one elbow on an arm rest, rubbed his jaw as his ship slid through the massive opening. After a moment the viewcreen showed a view of the Mjolnir passing a navigational buoy that marked the edge of Spacedock’s flight control zone.

"Captain," Nerah spoke up, "We have cleared Spacedock’s flight control zone and are free to navigate."

“Lay in a course for Proxima Centauri an’ take us tae warp one.” Callum ordered.

“Aye, sir. Coming about to heading one seven six mark four two on course for Proxima Centauri.” Nerah said. Continuing on he said, “Engaging… now.”

As Nerah spoke the viewscreen showed the rainbow effect of points of light stretching out into streaks of light as the Mjolnir accelerated to warp to test out the upgrades to its warp drive and deliver medical supplies to Proxima Colony.

"Holding steady at warp one, Captain" Nerah announced from the helm as the streaks of light, from particles of interstellar dust being transformed into energy from their interacting with the Mjolnir’s warp field, whizzed past the ship.

"Very good. Increase speed to warp seven, Lieutenant Nerah." Callum replied as he watched the enormous forward viewscreen.

"Aye, aye, Sir," the Napean helmsman answered as he began to slowly increase the Mjolnir's speed.

Callum looked down at the small display mounted on the arm of his command chair, and slowly nodded as the numbers steadily climbed upward. Changing the display view Callum studied the warp field configuration for a moment, and then switched the display back.

“We are now holding at warp seven.” Nerah reported from the helm console at the front of the bridge in front of the viewscreen.

Shifting slightly in his seat Callum tapped his combadge and said, "MacLeod tae Engineering."

A moment later the disembodied voice of the ship’s crusty yet beloved chief engineer, Lieutenant Commander Prolasch Jav Gorsach, came from Callum's combadge saying, "Engineering, Gorsach here."

"How are we doin’ down there, Commander?" Callum asked.

"We are doing just fine, Sir. Stress on the warp-field in within established parameters, the core is operating at forty-two percent of rated capacity, and the temperature of the warp coils is well below the maximum tolerance levels. I was able to keep those yarliq-brained yardies away from my engines." Prolasch replied.

“Ah hope that ah will nae receive any complaints from Spacedock.” Callum said only half jokingly.

“You won’t, sir.” Prolasch said his voice puffing up with pride, “I behaved myself so well they were literally confused about why was being so nice… it was actually quite fun to watch them try to figure it out.”

"Very good, Commander. Inform the bridge immediately if the core or coil temperature begins tae spike. We're going to take her tae maximum warp. MacLeod out." Callum said before tapping his combadge to close the channel.

"Take us up to warp nine point seven five, Lieutenant Nerah." Callum ordered.

“Aye, aye, sir. Accelerating to warp nine point seven five.” Nerah replied. A moment later he said, “We are traveling at warp eight… eight point five… nine… nine point five… nine point six… nine point seven… nine point seven one… nine point seven two… nine point seven three… nine point seven four… we are holding at warp nine point seven five.”

“Core temperature, Commander Tymoshenko?” Callum asked.

“Within expected parameters, sir.” Navesh replied, “We should have no problem maintaining warp nine point seven five for the next twelve hours before we need to think about slowing down.”

“Very good.” Callum said. Turning to face Damrus at the first officer and communications station Callum said, “You have the bridge, Commander Rel. I'll be in my ready room.”

"Aye, sir." Damrus said acknowledging Callum's order standing up so he could assume the center seat as Callum began to cross the bridge as he headed for the ready room.

=/\= Chapter Three =/\=

Stardate 58039.25 (January 15 2381, 07:55 Federation Standard Starship Time.)
USS Mjolnir
Interstellar space approaching Proxima Centauri, Sector 001, United Federation of Planets

As the alpha shift bridge crew walked towards their stations to relieve the crewmembers that had been manning it on the gamma shift Callum walked towards the captain’s chair to relieve the ship’s purple haired Boslic gamma shift officer of the watch, lieutenant junior grade Dina Kryll, and take command of the bridge. As Callum approached the center seat he watched as Dina stood up and stepped to the side so she was standing next to the captain’s chair.

“Quiet shift, lieutenant?” Callum asked.

“Yes, sir.” Dina replied, “We are approximately ten minutes out from the Proxima Centauri system.”

Adopting a more formal tone and stance Callum said, “The bridge is mine, lieutenant.”

“I stand relieved.” Dina said formally relinquishing command of the bridge.

As Callum sat down in the captain’s chair Dina and the rest of the gamma shift bridge crew filed off of the bridge and into the turbolift on the port side of the bridge to go about their various plans for their off duty time. Just before Callum was about to speak up to ask for a status report from all stations Damrus spoke up as he sat at the first officer and communications station behind and to the right of the center seat.

“Captain, we are receiving a hail from the Proxima Centauri Navigational Control department.” Damrus’s said.

“Onscreen.” Callum said as he straightened up as he sat in his seat.

Seconds later the enormous viewscreen on the bridge’s forward bulkhead came to life as its multi-spectral imaging sensors began creating the image of a Human man with brown hair and brown eyes.

“I am Traffic Controller First Class Thomas Gibson of the Proxima Centauri Navigational Control. To whom do I have the pleasure of speaking?” Controller Gibson said.

“Ahm Captain Callum MacLeod o’ the Starfleet ship Mjolnir. We have been ordered tae transport medical supplies tae your central hospital.” Callum said.

“You are cleared to enter they system and enter orbit. We will transmit a flight plan and orbit for your vessel to maintain while you are here as well as coordinates to transport the medical supplies down. You and your people have permission to come to the surface at your discretion while you are here. When you wish to leave contact us and we will assign you a flight path out of the system and a departure time.” Controller Gibson said.

“Thank-you, Controller. Mjolnir out.” Callum said before the viewscreen reverted to a view of space in front of the Mjolnir as the Diligent class ship cruised at warp speed towards the Proxima Centauri system.

“We’ve received the flight and orbital plan, Captain. We’ve been assigned a priority flight plan into the system. I am transferring the course to the helm.” Damrus said a moment later.

“Flight and orbital plans received.” Nerah said as his fingers danced across the helm console, “Altering course as speed accordingly. ETA to orbit is fifteen minutes and twenty five seconds.”

“Very good, Lieutenant.” Callum said. Turning in his Mark VII Captain’s chair so he was facing the first officer and communications station he continued on saying, “The bridge is yours, Commander Rel. I'll be in my ready room.”
"Aye, sir." Damrus said acknowledging Callum's order and standing up so he could assume the center seat as Callum began to cross the bridge as he headed for the ready room.

Walking across the bridge past the helm and ops stations and the Mjolnir’s dedication plaque Callum walked into the ship’s ready room. Once Callum had walked into the ready room he walked past the blue outlined octagon of the ready room’s holo-communicator to the alcove that contained the replicator and a door that was labeled ‘Captain’s Head’. As he walked toward the replicator Callum spoke to the computer ordering himself a lime pick-a-pop. Picking the bottle up Callum walked towards the center seat. As Callum sat down his combadge chirped to indicate that he had a waiting hail. Reaching to his combadge with his right hand Callum tapped it with his pointer and middle fingers to open the comm-link.

“MacLeod. Go ahead.” Callum said after he had tapped the combadge giving whoever was hailing him the go ahead to speak.

“Commander Rel, Captain. We are receiving a hail from the surface from the commanding officer of the local Starfleet post.” Damrus’s voice said coming from Callum’s combadge.

“Route it here, Commander.” Callum said.

“Aye, sir. Bridge out.” Damrus replied.

A moment later the desktop monitor chirped signaling that the communication he was waiting on had been routed to his monitor. Turning to the monitor Callum pressed the button to open the channel and the blank viewscreen came to life with the image of a Bolian man with three solid pips on the collar of his command division Starfleet uniform.

“Hello, ahm Captain Callum MacLeod o’ the Mjolnir.” Callum asked diplomatically.

“I’m Commander Halin Knalf, commanding officer of the Starfleet contingent here on Proxima Colony.” Knalf said in the typical gregarious yet somehow still professional tone virtually all Bolian Starfleet officers seemed to perfect.

“Tae what do I owe the pleasure, Commander Knalf?” Callum asked.

“Navigational Control’s sensor scans detected some something coming towards the system at sub-light speeds at an eighty five degree angle to the plane of the system. They can’t get a clear reading due to interference from the whatever it is but they CAN tell that it is pursuing an independent course and correcting for gravitational effects so they asked me to request that you investigate. If you’re willing I’ll transmit you the sensor data they have and the coordinates that the readings seem to be coming from. Unfortunately I don’t have any shuttles or runabouts that I could send to investigate.” Knalf said.

“We’re more than willing commander.” Callum said, “Ye can let Navigational Control know that we’ll alter course tae investigate.”

“I’ll have that sent to you right away, Captain.” Knalf said, “And I’ll let Navigational Control know. Thank-you for your help, sir.”

“Think nothing o’ it, Commander. Mjolnir out.” Callum said before he reached over and tapped a control on the monitor to close the channel. Tapping his combadge to open a channel Callum said, “MacLeod tae the Bridge.”

“Bridge, Commander Rel. How can I help you, sir?” Damrus’s disembodied and Andorii accented voice said coming from Callum’s combadge a moment later.

“Commander Knalf, of the Starfleet contingent assigned to Proxima Colony, passed on a request from the Navigational Control Department to investigate some unusual sensor readings. Ah’ve agreed tae investigate them. Once we’ve received the coordinates have Lieutenant Nerah take us there. Ah’ll be there shortly.” Callum said.

“Aye, sir. Rel out.” Damrus said from Callum’s combadge before the channel quietly clicked closed.

“Nae rest for the wicked.” Callum said to himself as he stood up and walked around the ready room desk.
=/\=
Ten minutes later, as the Mjolnir glided silently through space at warp thousands of kilometers above the plane of the Proxima Centauri solar system, Nerah reported that they were approaching the coordinates provided by the Proxima Colony Navigational control through Commander Knalf.

“All stop, Lieutenant Nerah. Hold this position.” Callum ordered from the captain’s chair. Continuing on he said, “Full sensor scans, Commander Tymoshenko Lets see what’s oot there”

“All stop. Aye, aye sir.” Nerah reported as he brought the Mjolnir to a full stop.

“Aye, aye captain. Beginning full sensor scan.” Navesh said once Nerah finished speaking Navesh spoke up as she sat at the science and combat tracking station as her enormous uniform covered bosoms pressed against the edge of her console while her uniform skirt hid the fact that she wasn’t wearing anything underneath it as she worked the controls on the Science and Combat Tracking console to use the ship’s sensors, “We’ve got a contact directly ahead, sir.”

“Put it on screen, Commander Rel.” Callum ordered.

Seconds later the viewscreen flickered to life showing the image of a roughly spherical asteroid covered with what looked like a massively scaled up version of the original design of the deflector dish from a Constitution class starship and banks of gigantic rocket nozzles at each of the poles and at the equator half way between the poles on either side of the asteroid. At the rear of the asteroid, hidden from the view of the Mjolnir was a bank of rocket nozzles hundreds of the times the size of the other rocket nozzles.

“Maintaining relative distance from the… asteroid-ship.” Nerah said from the helm as his fingers danced across the helm console.

“From these sensor readings its most definitely not warp capable. So my guess would be that it is a generational ship. Its engines appear to be powered by primitive anti-matter reactors and equipped with low yield particle weapons much like the ones that the United Earth Starfleet used on its ships prior to the founding of the Federation. Projecting her course ahead based on the data we have it appears to be on a course for Proxima Colony.” Navesh reported from ops.

“Life signs?” Callum asked from the Mark VII captain’s chair in the center of the Mjolnir’s bridge.

“Indeterminate. There is high concentrations of kelbonite and fistrium in the asteroid’s crust and there appears to be a primitive polarization grid on the asteroid’s surface. It appears to be on par with their level of weapons development, equivalent to that of Earth technology used just prior to the founding of the Federation. There also appears to be several warp capable vessels in what seems to be a sub-surface launch bay.” Navesh reported from the science and combat tracking station.

“Hail them on all EM and subspace bands, Commander Rel.” Callum ordered.

After a couple of moments of silence Callum asked, “Any response, Commander?”

“Negative, sir.” Damrus replied from the first officer and communications behind Callum and to his right.

"Captain! The asteroid-ship’s weapons systems are coming on-line!" Gratakka tersely chimed in from the tactical station. "And it has activated its polarization grid."

"Shields up, but keep our weapons on standby. I don’t want to look too aggressive." Callum said aloud to no one in particular. Continuing on he asked, "Is she taking evasive action, Commander Tymoshenko?"

"Negative, Sir. She is continuing on course for Proxima Colony." Navesh replied from the science an combat tracking station.

"How long until she reaches Proxima Colony?" Callum asked.

"Seventeen years at her current sub-light velocity, give or take a few months." Navesh said after consulting the readouts on the displays of her station. After a moment she continued on saying, "We are being probed by sensors from the vessel. They are attempting to achieve a transporter lock on our crew."

"Not precisely the response I had hoped for. Is there any chance of them locking on?" Callum asked.

"Not a chance, unless they’re hiding some tech that WAY more advanced that what they appear to have." Navesh replied.

"Hail them again, Commander Rel" Callum ordered.

Damrus responded by tapping a series of commands into his console and after a moment’s silence he shook his head as he spoke, "No response."

“Captain, they’ve have increased transporter power by a factor of six and are attempting to lock on again.” Navesh reported from her station.

With a frown Callum realized that a show of strength was necessary and said, "Lieutenant Gratakka, fire a full-power one second warning shot from our phasers parallel their surface — quarter kilometer separation."

"Aye, sir… firing phasers." The Nausicaan tactical officer replied as his fingers danced across the tactical console causing a orange-gold beam of phaser energy to lance out from the dorsal phaser array above the navigational deflector.

"They have ceased their attempt to acquire a transporter lock." Navesh reported from the science and combat tracking station a moment later. Seconds after that she suddenly spoke up saying, “Captain! They are beaming a photonic warhead into space ten meters from our forward shields!”

"Evasive action, Lieutenant Nerah!” Callum ordered as he grabbed the arms of his command chair, "Brace for impact!"

As the Mjolnir rapidly backed away from the warhead Damrus tapped a command into his console causing the computer to warn the crew to brace for impact. Seconds later the ship shook as the device exploded.

"Shields are holding at ninety-six percent." Navesh reported from the science and combat tracking station.

"More transporter signatures!" Navesh called out a moment later, "I am detecting another eight warheads bracketing us!"

"Warp speed, Lieutenant Nerah! Get us out of transporter range." Callum barked as he remained held in place by the safety restraints built into his command chair.

Under Nerah’s guidance the Mjolnir wheeled about so it was facing away from the asteroid ship and jumped into warp seconds before the eight photonic warheads exploded in bright flashes of light similar to miniature suns.

"Take us out of warp and maintain position facing the asteroid ship at a distance of one hundred twenty thousand kilometers and keep our shields as strong as possible." Callum ordered figuring that if they kept distance of three times the Mjolnir’s transporter range it was very likely that would be outside of the asteroid-ship’s transporter range.

"Aye, aye, Sir." Nerah replied as he tapped a series of commands into the helm causing the Mjolnir to drop out of warp and come about so it was facing the asteroid-ship.
As Callum rubbed his chin thoughtfully as he looked at the image of the asteroid-ship on the viewscreen he said, "Damage report."

“Minor radiation bleed through the forward shields causing contamination to the forward hull but no physical damage." Navesh replied from the Ops station, “I’ve got the forward shields back to one hundred percent and have auxiliary power ready to route as necessary.”

"Lieutenants Gratakka and Washbourne, Ah want a full tactical and scientific analysis o’ that vessel. We’ll be having a senior staff meeting in fifteen minutes and ah want answers by then." Callum ordered. Continuing on he turned to face the first officer and communications station and said, “Ye have the bridge, Commander Rel. Ah’ll be in mah ready room. If there is any aggressive actions from the asteroid-ship you are authorized tae evade or go tae warp as ye see fit."

"Aye, sir." Damrus said acknowledging the order as Callum stood up. Hearing a chirp from his console Damrus looked down and seeing what it was continued on saying, "We are being hailed by the asteroid-ship, Captain."

"On screen." Callum said as he sat back down in the center seat.

Seconds later the image on the viewscreen changed to the view of an alien command center that looked more like the operations and command center of a Cardassian Nor class station that a starship’s bridge. In the foreground of the image was what appeared to be a male humanoid. His smooth hairless skin had a deep yellow color to it which offset by the bright red eyes with a vertical iris like those of domesticated Terran cats.

"You will remove your vessel from this area at once and surrender possession of the planet we are approaching to us. If you don’t we will take it from you by force." The alien man demanded.

"Ahm Captain Callum MacLeod, in command o’ the United Federation Starship Mjolnir. The United Federation of Planets is the governing authority of the planet you are heading for. We dinnae desire conflict with the you an’ are prepared tae greet ye in peace and enter into discussions relating tae the possibility o’ sharing the planet. However if ye attempt tae attack mah vessel again we are more than prepared to respond in kind." Callum said.

"I am Speaker Lyhrias of the Kavadah’ni generational ship Kumanshu. You would fight over a single world? You would condemn thirty-five thousand to death and see an entire species destroyed?" The alien man asked.

"We dinnae want tae see the extinction o’ a race, but we will defend our people and assets if it proves necessary.” Callum replied.

The alien on the screen met Callum's stern gaze evenly and said, “Your people are intruders upon a planet which our race set out long ago to colonize to replace our long dead homeworld."

"We are most willing to discuss SHARING the world, Speaker." Callum said, “However threats will nae accomplish anything.”

"Captain, the Kumanshu has fired more photonic torpedoes at us! " Navesh said aloud seconds after Callum finished speaking as soon as she saw the warning on her console.

“Take them out, Lieutenant Gratakka.” Callum said to his Nausicaan tactical officer without taking his gaze off the forward viewscreen.

Seconds after he had tapped commands into his station Gratakka reported that the photonic torpedoes that were on approach had been destroyed and that he was standing by on the phasers incase they fired anymore torpedoes.

"Ah would advise ye tae cease attempting to attack us, Speaker Lyhrias. They could easily be interpreted as evidence of a hostile intent. Ye have seen the power of our weapons and undoubtedly scanned my ship by now and know our defensive and offensive capabilities. Ah’ve restrained from responding tae your attacks in kind in the spirit of friendship and cooperation."

The Speaker turned to someone off-screen and spoke rapidly in a language that the universal translator did not recognize and made a slashing motion with a hand with three elongated fingers and an opposable thumb on each side.

"The Kumanshu has powered down its weapons systems." Malcolm reported from the intelligence and combat tracking station.

"Thank you, Speaker Lyhrias. Ah would like tae begin preliminary discussions about sharing the world and why you feel ye need our people off o’ the planet." Callum said in earnest.

Lyhrias' mouth twisted into a cruel half smile as he said, "The power of your weapons technology is impressive, Captain MacLeod. As is your ability to target and destroy our torpedoes. The survival of my race is at stake and I shall not let ANYONE stand between our people and their survival as a species. We will not give up the world we approach. We still need a new homeworld. The Kavadah’ni must survive, I order you again to depart and trouble us no further. Failure to comply will result in your own deaths." Lyhrias said with an evil sneer in his voice before he made the same slashing motion as he had before to signal his communications officer to close the communications channel.

“Well that could’ve gone better.” Callum said aloud to no one in particular after the viewscreen reverted to a computer generated view of the Kumanshu slowly proceeding on course towards Proxima Colony to claim that world and its people.

“For a moment there I thought you had gotten through to him.” Navesh said turning from he station to face Callum.

“So did I.” Callum said after turning to face Navesh. Once he finished speaking he turned to face Damrus at the first officer and communications station and said, “You have the bridge, Commander Rel. I'll be in my ready room. Please get Starfleet Command on the channel and route it to my ready room.”

"Aye, sir." Damrus said acknowledging Callum's order and standing up so he could assume the center seat as Callum began to cross the bridge as he headed for the ready room.
=/\=
Moments later, as Callum was sitting behind the desk in his ready room, the desktop monitor chirped to indicate that he had a waiting hail. Turning to face the monitor he pressed the control on the monitor to open the channel causing it to change from the black screen of its power saving mode to the image of Admiral Connaught Rossa.

“Hello, Captain MacLeod. What can I do for you?” The diminutive and grandmotherly-looking grey haired admiral said.

“We’ve run in tae quite the situation just outside o’ the Proxima Centauri system. We’ve encountered a sub-light asteroid ship on course for Proxima Colony. The main ship itself may be restricted to sub-light, however it possesses what appears tae be warp capable attack craft and its occupants are intent on claiming the planet for themselves.” Callum said grimly filling in Admiral Rossa on their encounter.

“That is quite the situation. Can I assume that all attempts at peaceful resolution have failed?” Rossa asked.

“Unfortunately, Admiral.” Callum replied.

“What is your current position?” Rossa asked.

“We are retreating ahead o’ it at impulse power.” Callum replied.

“I want you to return to Proxima Colony at warp speed and take up a defensive position incase the asteroid-ship launches its warp capable attack ships for an attack against the colony. You are authorized to use whatever force necessary to protect the colony and its inhabitants. I am going to contact command and we will come up with a solution to the situation.” Admiral Rossa said.

“Aye, Admiral.” Callum replied.

“Very good, Captain. We will be in touch. Rossa out.” The grey-haired and legendary Starfleet Admiral replied before closing the comm-link causing the monitor to revert to its power saving black screen mode.

Tapping his combadge Callum said, “MacLeod tae bridge.”

After a moment’s pause Damrus’s disembodied voice came from Callum’s combadge saying, “Bridge. Rel here. How can I help you, sir?”

“Admiral Rossa has ordered us to return to Proxima Colony and take up a defensive position incase Speaker Lyhrias orders the Kumanshu’s attack ships to attack the colony.” Callum explained, “Please have Lieutenant Nerah take us back to Proxima Colony right away and place us in a defensive position between the Kumanshu and the planet. Also contact Commander Knalf and bring him up to speed and have him deploy any and all fighters or shuttles they have assigned join us in a defensive formation once we arrive at the planet.”

“Aye, sir.” Damrus said, “I’ll also have Commander Tymoshenko deploy a probe to monitor the Kumanshu’s activities.”

“Good idea, Commander. Notify me when we are back at the planet, MacLeod oot.” Callum said before he tapped his combadge to close the channel.

Stardate 58042.18 (January 16 2381, 09:35 Federation Standard Starship Time.)
USS Mjolnir
Proxima Centauri, Sector 001, United Federation of Planets

“Captain, we’re receiving an incoming transmission from Babel.” Damrus said, “Admiral Rossa wants to speak with you.”

“Well, in that case ye have the bridge, Commander.” Callum said after turning to face Damrus. Continuing on as he stood up he said, “Route the transmission tae mah ready room.”

"Aye, sir." Damrus said acknowledging Callum's order before tapping a series of commands into his console before standing up so he could assume the center seat as Callum began to cross the bridge as he headed for the ready room.

Walking across the bridge past the helm and ops stations Callum walked into the ship’s ready room. As the ready room doors whooshed closed behind him Callum walked over to and around the ready room desk and sat down in the seat behind the desk. Turning to face the monitor he pressed the control on the monitor to open the channel causing it to change from the black screen of its power saving mode to the image of Admiral Connaught Rossa. Standing a few feet behind Rossa and to her left was the dark haired shapely Vulcan woman that Callum knew to be Rossa’s aide Sakonna.

“Hello admiral. Can ah assume that ye are contacting me regarding Command’s plan tae deal with the Kavadah’ni ship.” Callum said.

“You can, Captain.” Rossa said, “We have re-routed the Enterprise and the Sutherland to rendezvous with you, they should arrive in fourteen hours. Admiral Bouvier is rerouting a couple of her Border Service cutters, under the command of Captain Akinola, to serve as back up. Once he and the Enterprise arrive your two vessels are to proceed to intercept the Kumanshu and attempt to achieve a peaceable resolution. I’ll be honest with you, Captain, while we hope you are successful in achieving a peaceable solution we don’t think its very likely and you are to do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of Proxima Colony.”

All of a sudden the ship’s red alert lights began flashing throughout the ship causing the crew to rush to their assigned stations as Damrus’s voice sounded throughout the ship. Looking at the monitor Callum saw that Admiral Rossa saw the red alert lights flashing and heard Damrus’s voice, directing the crew to battle stations and calling him to the bridge, over the intercom as she nodded to wordlessly signal him it was okay to go before she closed the communications channel. Needing no urging Callum literally jumped out of his seat and sprinted around the desk and past the blue outline of the ready room’s holo-communicator and onto the bridge.

“REPORT!” Callum ordered as hurried onto the bridge ton sit in the center seat.

“The Kumanshu just came out of warp and its weapons are charged.” Damrus reported as he returned to the first officer and communications station as the enormous viewscreen on the forward bulkhead showed the roughly spherical generational asteroid-ship.

“Bloody ‘ell!” Callum exclaimed in surprise unable to hide his Irish accent for a moment. Continuing on he said, “I didn’t think they had a warp drive on that thing so how’d they get here so quick?”

“They appear to have networked their matter/anti-matter reactors and modified their polarization grid to project a warp field.” Navesh reported from the Ops station, “But it appears to have been a one time short distance warp jump for them as their entire polarization grid as been damaged beyond repair.”

“Hail them, Commander Rel.” Callum ordered.

After a couple of moments of silence Callum asked, “Any response, Commander?”

“Negative, sir.” Damrus replied from the first officer and communications behind Callum and to his right.

"Captain! The Kumanshu is on course for Proxima Colony." Navesh replied from the science an combat tracking station. Continuing on after a two second pause she said, “She’s firing torpedoes at the colony!”

“TAKE THEM OUT, LIEUTENANT GRATAKKA!” Callum shouted, “Commander Rel take control of the torpedo launchers and take out their torpedo launch tubes! Attack patterns at your discretion, Lieutenant Nerah!”

Without warning the Mjolnir began to shudder as successive volleys from the Kumanshu’s particle cannons impacted against the Mjolnir’s forward shields.

“Forward shields at ninety percent.” Navesh reported from the science and combat tracking station as her enormous uniform covered bosoms pressed against the edge of her console while her uniform skirt hid the fact that she wasn’t wearing anything underneath.

“Evasive maneuvers!” Callum ordered as the built in restraints of the Mark VII captain’s chair automatically deployed strapping him into the command chair, “Commander Tymoshenko, find a way to disable that ship. There is thirty-five thousand innocent people onboard that I don’t want to kill just because they are onboard a ship commanded by a fanatic.”

“Aye, sir.” Tejin said from the Ops station as she set to fulfilling her assigned task.

As the Mjolnir banked to starboard and fired its primary starboard dorsal phaser array fired it rocked under the impact of a series of blasts from the Kumanshu’s nearest particle cannons against the Mjolnir’s port side shields causing she shield envelope to flare into visibility as the Mjolnir accelerated away from the asteroid-ship as it attempted to avoid weapons fire from its banks of particle cannons weapons.

“The port side shields are at eighty-seven percent!” Navesh reported from the science and combat tracking station.

“Lieutenant Nerah, I want to come about as quickly as possible and head towards them. Keep the port engine at full forward, and flip the starboard engine into full reverse on my signal." Callum said.

“The MacLeod Maneuver, aye sir.” Nerah said with a chuckle from the helm as he tapped commands into the helm console in anticipation of Callum’s order.

After a moment's pause Callum said "Engage!"

Under Nerah's guidance the bridge crew lurched to one side as the Mjolnir started to turn in a clockwise motion. Callum felt the structural integrity fields strain as the Mjolnir came about so it was facing towards the Kavadah’ni asteroid-ship and began accelerating towards it. Once the Mjolnir finished coming about and began accelerating its phasers began firing orange-gold beams of phaser energy at the Kumanshu from each forward phaser arrays and pulse after pulse of phaser energy at the station from each phaser turrets that were deployed from their housings on the forward ventral hull just aft of the forward ventral phaser array.

“Lieutenant Nerah, take us on a strafing run along their surface and make it close. Lieutenant Gratakka, continue firing the phasers! Commander Rel fire torpedoes at any targets of opportunity as we pass by. Commander Tymoshenko, I need that way to disable them so I don’t have to give the order to destroy a ship full of innocents to protect Proxima Colony!”

As the Mjolnir raced towards the colossal space station it rocked under repeated impacts from the Kumanshu’s particle cannons the Mjolnir’s blond Oran’taku chief operations officer said, “I’m working on it, sir. But the kelbonite and fistrium aren’t making it easy.”

“Forward shields at eighty-three percent.” Navesh announced from the science and combat tracking station, “Make that seventy-nine percent!”

“Lieutenant Nerah, evasive pattern delta! Try to break their target lock, but keep us on course.” Callum ordered as he gripped the arms of his chair as the Mjolnir raced towards the asteroid-ship.

The Mjolnir began rocking hard from port to starboard in an attempt to break the battle cruiser’s target lock as it flew along the surface a mere ten meters from the asteroid-ship’s inoperable polarization grid.

Under Nerah’s skilled guidance the Mjolnir continued along with all of its phasers arrays firing beam after beam of orange-gold phaser energy while the phaser cannons fired pulse after pulse of phaser energy. Seconds after the tactical display on the right side of the Mjolnir’s enormous forward viewscreen showed that they had finished its flyby and was in orbital space behind the asteroid-ship. Under Nerah’s skilled guidance the Mjolnir quickly performed a zero elevation one hundred eighty degree banking turn and began a second attack run.

“I’ve got it, Captain!” Navesh suddenly shouted from the Ops station. As the tactical display on the right side of the viewscreen changed to a schematic view of a portion of the Kumanshu’s surface with a blinking light next to what appeared to be a bunker she said, “If we take out this power transfer hub they will loose all power to their command bunker.”

“Let’s do it people!” Callum ordered, “Take us in, Lieutenant Nerah. Keep firing phasers at any and all targets of opportunity, Lieutenant Gratakka. Commander Rel, get a torpedo lock on that hub and take it out!”

“Forward shields at seventy-two percent!” Navesh reported as the Mjolnir flew towards the Kumanshu.

“Auxiliary power to the shields!” Callum ordered.

“Aye, aye sir.” Tejin said from the Ops station as her fingers danced across the Ops console transferring auxiliary power to the shields in an attempt to reinforce them.

Seconds later the Mjolnir rocked as another volley from the Kumanshu’s nearest particle cannons impacted against their shield envelope unleashing their energy in a massive pulse designed to damage and overwhelm a target’s defensive shields. As the ship rocked the automated five point safety strap system built into the captain’s chair held Callum in his seat as the ship bucked under the impact. Looking around quickly he saw that the rest of the bridge crew was struggling to stay in their seats since they weren’t equipped their seats with the automated safety straps.

As the Mjolnir closed on the power transfer hub while firing its phasers Navesh said, “Our shields are holding.”

“Firing phasers! Highest possible repeat rate.” Gratakka said from the tactical station as the Mjolnir was rocked by the impact of more particle cannons blasts as wave after wave of golden phaser beams leapt from the phaser arrays and raced towards the asteroid-ship.

“Quantum torpedoes away! Loading second volley. First volley will impact in six seconds. Second volley away!” Damrus reported from the first officer and communications station once Gratakka finished speaking.

As the white glow of the Starfleet quantum torpedoes’ sustainer engines raced from the forward torpedo and probe launchers towards the power transfer hub on the asteroid’s surface a golden glow started at the edge of each of the forward phaser arrays and moved towards each other and the emitter that would discharge the beam and. When they met they lashed out in a one solid golden beam and reached out for the nearest bank of particle cannons in a attempt to destroy them. At the moment that the quantum torpedoes exploded against the surface of the power transfer hub blasting it into pieces.

“They’ve lost power to their command bunker… their weapons system is powering down and what appears to be an automatic navigation system is coming online… its steering them into a stable orbit of the planet.” Malcolm said from the intelligence and combat tracking station.

“Cease fire and put us between them and the planet.” Callum ordered.

As Nerah and Gratakka carried out the order Damrus spoke up from the first officer and communications station saying, “The Kumanshu is hailing us.”

“On screen.” Callum ordered.

Seconds later the image on the viewscreen changed to the view of a smaller command center than they’d seen before appeared on the viewscreen with a Kavadah’ni woman with smooth hairless skin that had a deep yellow color to it and was offset by the bright red eyes with a vertical iris appeared on the viewscreen.

“I am Subspeaker Nahala of the Kavadah’ni. To whom am I speaking?” The Kavadah’ni woman asked with her enormous bosoms rising and falling with each breath she took.

“Ahm Captain Callum MacLeod o’ the Federation Starship Mjolnir.” Callum answered cautiously.

“Captain, I wish to inform you that Speaker Lyhrais has been placed under arrest for his unjustified attack on your people on the planet and” Nahala said, “On behalf of the Kavadah’ni people I formally request that we cease hostilities and begin negotiations to share the planet below us.”

“Very good Subspeaker. We will be in touch to arrange a formal meeting between our people.” Callum said.

“We will be patiently waiting, Captain.” Nahala replied.

“Congratulations, Captain.” Admiral Rossa said to Callum as he sat behind the desk in his ready room talking to her over subspace, “The admiralty is very pleased with the outcome you achieved. Once the Enterprise arrives Captain Picard will begin formal negotiations, on behalf of the diplomatic corps, regarding sharing the planet with the Kavadah’ni. In the mean time I have details regarding an assignment for you and the Mjolnir to perform once the Enterprise arrives.”

“What would that be, Admiral?” Callum asked.

“Transport duty, Captain. There is a couple of VIP’s onboard the Enterprise that are needing transport. The Enterprise was to transport them but since we’ve rerouted them and tasked Captain Picard with negotiating with the Kavadah’ni the transportation duty falls to you.” Rossa said.

“Understood. Who is it will we be transporting, Admiral?” Callum asked.

“I’ll let that be a surprise, Captain. But be prepared to depart as soon as the Enterprise arrives on scene and the VIPs transport onboard.” Rossa said.

“We will, Admiral.” Callum replied curious as to who they would be transporting and why the silver haired admiral wouldn’t tell him.

“Very good. Captain. Rossa out.” The grey-haired Admiral Connaught Rossa said before she closed the comm-channel causing the desktop monitor to revert to its power saving mode.

Stardate 58045.58 (January 17 2381, 15:20 Federation Standard Starship Time.)
USS Mjolnir
Proxima Centauri, Sector 001, United Federation of Planets

The next afternoon Callum was standing in transporter room one onboard the Mjolnir, wearing his dress uniform, along with the Mjolnir’s the entire senior staff when Jean spoke up from her position behind the transporter operators console.

“Captain, the Enterprise has signaled that the VIPs are ready to beam over.” Jean said.

“By all means, Ensign.” Callum said before turning to face the transporter pad.

Seconds later two columns of swirling silver light appeared on the transporter platform and began to form into two humanoid shapes. One of the humanoids was an elderly white haired human man that looked extremely frail standing on the next transporter pad was a grey-haired thicker set human man. As soon as they finished materializing Callum realized who they were and that Admiral Rossa had kept their identities a secret to surprise him.

“Admiral McCoy and Captain Scott.” Damrus whispered to himself in awe barely loud enough for Callum, who was standing next to him, to hear.

Stepping forward Callum said, “Welcome onboard the Mjolnir, Admiral McCoy and Captain Scott. Its an honor tae have ye onboard our humble vessel.”

“It’s a pleasure to be here, son.” McCoy said in his Georgian drawl as he stepped down off of the transporter pad with Captain Scott making sure he was within arm reach incase his old friend needed his help.

“I’m afraid that Admiral Rossa didn’t give me much in the way of details. All she told me is that we would be transporting two VIPs. If its not too presumptuous could you tell me where we are transporting you too, so ah can give the orders tae get us underway.” Callum said.

With a chuckle McCoy said, “Its not, son. We’re going to Chal.”

“We’ll get underway right away.” Callum said knowing who the ‘old friend’ was. Gesturing to Damrus he continued on saying, “Commander Rel will show you to quarters so you can settle in. If your willing I’d like to invite the two of you to join me and my senior staff for dinner in the deck one observation lounge at eighteen hundred.”

“It’d be our pleasure, Captain. Scotty and I are never ones to turn down a dinner.” McCoy said with a grin on his face. Turning to face Damrus McCoy said, “Lead the way, Commander.”

“Aye, sir.” Damrus said before leading McCoy and Scotty out of the transporter room.

Once Damrus, McCoy and Scotty had walked out of the transporter room Callum turned to face the rest of the senior staff Callum said, “The dinner will be full dress attire. Ye can all consider yourselves dismissed. Commander Tymoshenko, please contact Chief Veran an’ make the arrangements for the dinner.”

Stardate 58045.58 (January 20 2381, 13:23 Federation Standard Starship Time.)
USS Mjolnir
Proxima Centauri, Sector 001, United Federation of Planets

Three days later the Mjolnir silently approached the tropical world of Chal they were hailed by the planet’s flight control department and cleared to enter a standard orbit. Once they had assumed orbit around the planet McCoy looked at Callum sitting in the center seat, which he had refused when Callum had offered him the spot to sit in when he came to the bridge, and spoke up.

“Captain,” McCoy said, “Would you, Navesh and Damrus care to beam down with us. I think there is someone down there you’d enjoy seeing again.”

Looking over at Scotty who was standing next to him McCoy continued on saying, “What do you think Scotty?”

“Ach, I think that ye are right.” Scotty said with a grin of his own.

“It would be our pleasure, Admiral. Thank-you.” Callum said. Turning to face Gratakka at the tactical station he said, “The bridge is yours, Lieutenant Gratakka.”

“Aye, sir.” The Nausicaan tactical officer said before Callum, Damrus, Navesh, McCoy and Scotty headed for the bridge’s lone turbolift on the port side of the bridge.

Moments later Callum, McCoy, and Scotty materialized in a clearing on Chal near a log cabin. Looking around McCoy didn’t see anyone there and spoke up calling out so he would be heard so he could make the introductions he was looking forward to making.

“Jim, Joseph, are you here?” McCoy shouted when he didn’t see anyone else in the clearing.

“Uncle Bones?” A youthfully exuberant voice shouted from a the cabin. Seconds later a young boy, about the size of a human five year old, with pointed ears, a single line of almost invisible Trill-like spots running up his spine over the top of his smooth scalp and faded away to nothing just above the subtle Klingon cranial forehead ridges the same rosy hue as the rest of his exposed skin ran from the cabin barefoot and in blue jean shorts and a baggy t-shirt that read: 75th Annual James T. Kirk Memorial Cup orbital skydiving competition.

As he ran towards McCoy, the young boy saw Scotty and shouted “Uncle Bones! Uncle Scotty!” at the same time as the famous James Tiberius Kirk walked out of the log cabin following the energetic boy and saw two of his closest friends and a Starfleet captain he didn’t know.

Once Kirk reached him and Scotty McCoy gently disentangled himself from the youth’s energetic hug and nudged him towards Scotty so he wouldn’t be the only one to ‘enjoy’ an energetic hug from his friend’s son as he said, “Jim this is Captain Callum MacLeod of the Mjolnir, Captain this is James Tiberius Kirk and his son Joseph Samuel T’Kol T’Lan Kirk.”

“It’s a pleasure to see ye again, Jim.” Callum said as he extended his hand to Kirk and shook hands with one of Starfleet’s living legends as Joseph released Scotty from a bear hug and returned to his father’s side.

“I have a question for you.” Kirk said.

“What’s that?” Callum asked barely keeping himself from adding ‘Sir’ onto the end of the end of his sentence.

“Do you want to go orbital skydiving?” Kirk asked with a wry grin on his face.

“Ah’d love tae. The Mjolnir doesn’t have tae head oot for two more days.” Callum said.

“How about we jump from the shuttlebay. Its been a while since I’ve done that.” Kirk said with a smile.
=/\=
An hour later Callum stood next to Starfleet’s legendary James T. Kirk wearing a bulky orbital sky-diving suit in front of the atmospheric containment forcefield just inside of the open shuttlebay doors. Looking over at Kirk standing next to him he shook his head ever so slightly in disbelief before speaking.

“Everything functional?” Callum asked Kirk through the suit’s built in communications system.

“Yes,” Kirk said as controls flashed on his helmet’s H.U.D. screen indicating that the shuttle was in position for their jump and all suit systems were functional, “You ready to go?”

“Oh, yea!” Callum said with a grin on his face before he literally ran through the atmospheric containment forcefield and towards the edge of the fantail deck that was aft of the shuttlebay doors.

“This boy’s crazier than me.” Kirk thought to himself as he followed Callum out the shuttlebay.

Meanwhile on the surface the cloudless blue sky of Chal looked deceivingly calm as a gentle breeze rustled the shorn stalks of the wheat-like grain quadrotriticale while the Navesh stood with Damrus, Scotty, McCoy, and Joseph looked into the sky trying to find Callum and Kirk.

“I believe that’s them.” Damrus said pointing up at two dark flecks high in the sky.

“No that’s a pair of birds.” Navesh said after she looked to where Damrus was pointing.

A moment later a pair of loud sonic booms sounded behind and far above them.
“That’d be them.” Navesh said as the entire group turned around and looked up as one.

Moments later a pair of small spots in the sky blossomed into a slightly larger spots and, within a few more moments, had closed to the point where anyone could tell that the shapes were humanoids in an orbital sky-diving suits with anti-grav parachutes. Callum and Kirk rocked in their harnesses as the anti-gravs worked to change their angle of fall and rate of descent. Suddenly the harnesses pulled hard increasing their displacement effect before the automatic cut-off activated once the pack came within the preset distance of the ground. Reflexively Callum and Kirk swung their legs together and bent their knees seconds before they slammed into dirt as if he had stepped off a three meter wall and rolled as they’d had been trained, absorbing the impact along the side of their bodies.

“Why would you want to jump out of a perfectly good shuttle and fall through a planet’s atmosphere in little more than a EVA suit?” Navesh asked as Callum and Kirk stood up and brushes themselves off as she rushed over.

“Why orbital sky-dive? Because the planet’s there, mah beautiful lassie” Callum said with a wry grin on his face.

“Captain Kirk,” Damrus said asked Kirk, “Was that…”

“Jim.” Kirk interrupted holding up a finger, “Call me Jim.”

“Jim, was that the ‘K’Thale Maneuver’? It certainly does seem…reckless enough, for lack of a better word, to have been devised by a Klingon.” Damrus asked.

“K’Thale?” Navesh said questioningly.

“A famous one armed Klingon orbital sky-diver.” Kirk explained for Navesh. Continuing on he spoke to Damrus, “No, the maneuver that you’re thinking of involves jettisoning the helmet and gloves once you’ve dropped through the sound barrier then breaking the seal on the chest plate to release the thermic pod on the back. Once the pod’s free you manually open the pod and pull out the drogue ‘chute and release it so it deploys your main ‘chute. It’s a very dangerous maneuver and K’Thale was the only person to successfully survive it. But it’s suppose to be quite a rush, and if a Klingon is saying that than you know that’s a major understatement.”

“You’re lucky you didn’t break anything, because if you had I’d have to kill you after Melina patched you up.” Navesh teased Callum.

As Logan chuckled at Navesh’s comment he heard the communicator built into his suit chirp to indicate he had a waiting hail. Realizing it was very likely his ship trying to get a hold of him Callum tapped a control on the left forearm of the suit to open the channel.

“MacLeod here. Go ahead.” Callum said once the channel clicked open.

“Captain,” Gratakka’ disembodied voice said coming from the suit’s comm-speaker in the collar, “We just received a communiqué we have been ordered to immediately proceed to Starbase Twenty-Three to be briefed for what they are describing as a ‘high priority’ mission.”

“Understood. Break orbit and proceed to Star Station Echo at maximum warp as soon as we’re aboard. MacLeod out.”

Looking to Kirk, Scotty, and McCoy Callum sighed and shrugged his shoulders. “Admiral McCoy, will you be coming with us?”

‘No, boy, you go.” McCoy said in his Georgian drawl, “We’re gonna stay here and visit with Jim and Joseph for a while. We’ll book passage on a commercial liner when we’re ready to go.”

“Understood.” Callum said as Damrus and Navesh stood near him ready for transport. Addressing Damrus he continued on, “Commander Rel, if you’d please…”

“Aye, sir.” Damrus said as he reached for comm-badge, “Rel to Mjolnir.”

“Mjolnir, Lieutenant Gratakka.” Gratakka’ voice sad coming from Damrus’s combadge.

“Three to beam up, Lieutenant. Admiral McCoy and Captain Scott will be remaining on Chal. Energize when ready.” Damrus ordered.

“Aye, aye sir. Standby for transport.” Gratakka replied.

Seconds later Callum, Navesh and Damrus disappeared from the surface of Chal and rematerialized in transporter room one onboard the Mjolnir. As they stepped off of the transporter platform and headed towards the door the Mjolnir began banking out of orbit of Chal and jumped to warp nine point seven five on course for Star Station Echo as the bridge’s viewscreen showed the starburst effect of streaks of light stretching out into a rainbow colored lines wrapping around the ship as the Mjolnir accelerated to warp.

The adventures of the Mjolnir’s crew will continue in…
