star trek legacy woes.

I had heard some pretty bad things about legacy, but I had a hastings gift card and it was on sale so i decided to give it a try. Really wished i hadn't, most sluggish and hard to control game i've ever seen. Its even worse than the Encounters one bethseda did for ps2.

Anyway, anybody know of any patches or mods to make this game a little less crappy since i'm stuck with it now as the store won't take back open software?

There's a download link for the latest patch (1.2) on the official website, here.

There's also lots of ships, mods, and other downloadable addons for the game here.

It's gotten almost universally bad reviews in the PC version, I'm afraid, and for many, many people, it's unplayable. Some say the XBox version is much better, but obviously that won't help you.

Honestly, you may want to try to just sell it on eBay.

I found the ultimate universe mod online that adds a lot of ships and races and seems to help the game interface run a lot more smoothly, though theres still the occasional issue of having to fight with the mouse to get it the move to an option for some reason.

Unfortunately, you need to go a ways over the min. system requirements to make it remotely playable, but once it is running well, it isn't a bad game. I would like some more flexibility in setting up skirmishes, but it's not bad.

Yea my graphics cards only 128 mb. Is Nvidia and a good card but old and needs upgrading. That and some more ram are on the list for me once i get the money to do it.

I had to do the same thing with my video card and ram. Of course, my viddy was the red-headed stepchild of the Nvidia line, so I would have had to replace it regardless of Legacy's requirements.

I cranked up my system to play legacy, with a big mother video card and a gig more RAM.

Legacy worked smooth enough.

Within a week, I had re-installed Bridge Commander and all of the mods that matter. It's just a superior game, IMHO.

BTW, cranking up my system for Legacy allowed me to play lots of other games I couldn't. I recommend it, if you have the scrilla. Battlefield 2, Transformers, Half Life 2 are pumpin' and pimpin'. :bolian:

Oh, yeah. Legacy was the only unplayable game, but once I upgraded the system, everything else seemed a thousand times better than before. So, even if you feel Legacy sucks, think of the rest of your collection!

A friend of mine had a similar experience with the console version. He bought an Xbox 360 specifically to play Legacy. Well, the game just sucked. But now he had a 360, so he discovered a lot of games that were actually good, so he doesn't regret the purchase at all.

I don't think ANY of us expected Legacy to impact us in that way!

BTW... check out Elite Force II if you've upgraded your system. I know it's an older game, but just like GTA:Andreas for example it just purrs and glows with all that extra hardware.

Admittedly there were a few mods that I liked for Legacy. I remember one recent mod which re-created several historical battles from ENT and TOS. The 3 MU NX-01's vs the TOS Defiant is pretty tight.

Actually, where can you find either Elite Forces I or II? I had the first at one point and made the mistake of letting it go... haven't seen either game in years.

Probably out of print.

Check ebay or stores like GameStop. I managed to pick up a used copy of EF2 there about two years ago for $5.

so wouldn't anyone recommend buying this game then? Tesco have it for less than a 10a, have also seen some pretty bad reviews but its expected if you have a dated PC IMO..

It got bad reviews even if you had a top of the range machine.

The story seems to be missing huge chunks and the controls are clumsy at best. At less than £10 you could get it just to satisfy curiosity, but you're unlikely to play it more than once or twice.

^ Really that bad :( geeze, what happens then? When you click the cursor do you have to keep clicking it or just aload of annoying things rolled into one?

Legacy is playable on the 360, its no AAA titles but its playable, everything works just about...

The PC version is a nightmare, a sloppy port with so many bugs you get a free can of bug spray with its purchase.

You can get the PC version from Amazon and Ebay for about £6, so its cheap enough to actually consider buying now.

I tried to get through it, but could not proceed past the Stargazer mission.

The asteroid level is easy with some patience. first off, all you need for ships are the stargazer and a scout ship. when the mission starts, your sensor arrays will highlight in dark red, the asteroids that pose a direct threat to the planets or arrays, use the stargazer to warp to these and destroy them.
When you get to the part where you have to tractor beam the turrets to the planets, boost the scout ships engines and drag the turrets to their designations, when you get to the last stage where you have to destroy the large asteroid, do not waste you time with phasers, they do not work, take the scout and tractor beam a smaller asteroid and fly it into the larger one, a couple of times with this and it will break up.

But its probably easier on the 360 due to the control actually working correctly.
