Star Trek Into Darkness Synopsis Revealed!!

The OP left this part out:
As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

It sounds like Winona, George and Frank aren't long for this world.

I can see how Gary Mitchell could be described by this synopsis (and while I enjoyed the Section 31 stories, I'd also like to see Gary Seven again), but I had a third, less likely theory a while back that fits this scenario.

Garth of Izar, perhaps?

Arne Darvin and his merry band of exploding Tribbles defeating the Federation for the Klingon Empire.

What's with J.J. Abrams? The first move he 'nuked' Vulcan. Now, he 'nukes' the fleet. What's next - Earth? I will say this about him - he sure loves the nuclear option.

Well you wouldn't want the unstoppable force of terror to just blow up a couple buildings in San Francisco would you? How is that going to leave our world in a state of crisis and propel people into manhunts?

Yeah, I am actually hoping Earth is destroyed so we will get at least one trek movie with kirk and crew AND NOT showcase Earth..

For every person that thought we were gonna get a skinny, pasty British dude as Khan, I laugh at you....

Yep. I wonder who that might be? :D

It sounds like the kind of very simple premise that lends itself to putting butts in seats. You could practically convey the idea via a poster. That's a good thing - ideally, the next movie needs to be an even bigger hit than the last one, and it doesn't pay to confuse the casual audience who has probably already forgotten the 2009 movie. Just give them something simple that promises to be exciting and fun.

I remember people trying to convince me the sequel would be a little more cerebral and the first was just to get people in interested in Star Trek again. Even the most action heavy of the original 10 had a commentary on humanity. If this means the end of Star Trek being a "rather talky geekfest" as Abrams puts it then I can write the franchise off as no longer relevant to my interests.

How does this synopsis preclude the Khan theory? I'm not saying he is in the movie, but I don't see anything definitive here either way.

My initial thought is that it sounds like a Starfleet officer has attained superpowers and turned against his own people.

Yep. I wonder who that might be? :D
Commodore Kurtz. Duh.

Well you wouldn't want the unstoppable force of terror to just blow up a couple buildings in San Francisco would you?
Well, not just a couple of buildings, no. Buuuut if they were looking for candidates, I'm sure I could come up with a couple of addresses.

Well, the synopsis promises an "explosive action thriller", so he has to blow things up and since sequels are supposed to be bigger..

I just hope they have not forgotten the drama amongst blowing things up, not that I have something against action, it just that Star Trek is often at its best when doing good drama.

It's a "personal score to settle", so there should be plenty of drama.

Also.. friends will be "torn apart"!

"from within their own organization" -- Makes sense. All of Shatner-Kirk's old friends turned out to be evil deranged bastards.

And if Tyler Perry's coming back, it could be Madea Gets Really Angry.

An unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization?

Not Khan.

One man weapon of mass destruction.

Not Khan. Not as we know him, anyway.

Khan could still be in the film, granted. But if he is, he hasn't been alluded to in this synopsis.

And lets not forget, love will be challenged.

Take that NuUhura! Maybe you shouldn't have flirted with Khan/Mitchell/Izar when NuSpock was just around the corner.
