The thing that weirds me out is that the guy doing Kirk's voice is a famous (ubiquitous) voice-over guy in Japan. Think of dubbing the head scientist in a Godzilla film with Don LaFontaine.

I used to love watching dubbed American movies on Japanese TV; they always seemed to cast voice actors based on the CHARACTER they were doing, rather than the actual tone and timbre of the voice of the actor being dubbed. For example, in Ghostbusters, the guy who dubbed Bill Murray was (IIRC) the voice actor who did Lupin III. And he used the Lupin voice.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! man thats weard... i dont like that at all... i know there smiling and stuff but i get the underlying inpression that the enterprise has been hijacked by Hideki Tojo, pre December 7 /41 ... it doesnt help that spock looks slightly japanese allready! hahahahahaha!

I was under the impression that they called the Enterprise "Yamato" in the redubbing.

Maybe they only did that in the 70's...

It's "Uchû Daisakusen" (Great Strategies/Plans in Space).

And in the TOS days, "Sulu" was renamed "Katô".

And the Enterprise was never renamed. The name is WRITTEN on the damned ship.

^ I figured that would be a stumbling block, but a Japanese lady told me this, and since the Enterprise bears no resemblence to the ship in Star Blazers (or Space Cruiser Yamato, for you purists), I don't think she was getting the ships mixed up.

Strangely that works better than I expected. Kirk's Japanese actor sounds a lot like William Shatner and Nimoy sounds like George Takei.

I know that it was Katô since Sulu is not a nihongo name or "lu" pronunciation--the closest would be the "ru," which sounds like a muddled R/L sound. I was just riffing on Shatner's monologue joke from SNL.
