Spoilers Star Trek / Green Lantern "The Spectrum War"

I must admit to being a little tweaked by Hal stating that he and Kirk are the same rank, when a Naval Captain and Air Force Captain are not equivalent ranks. As well, there's that weird moment when Hal calls the Enterprise a "starship" and Kirk says "flagship, actually" which just seemed super odd.

Nitpicks, I know. But they stood out to me quite a bit.

Those would both certainly put me off the book. One is military knowledge that can easily be looked up online for anyone not in the services, and the other is that common trap of applying TNG assumptions to TOS.

I had a similar thing bug me when the Star Trek/Legion of Super-Heroes crossover had Kirk hitting on Shadow Lass in the middle of a firefight! That's Austin Powers, not James T. Kirk.

5 issues and it still feels like the crew hasn't really used the core power of their rings in a way that explains why the rings chose them. Everything is fun but feels generic and flat. I'm a bit disappointed.
I like the comics and always read them but even when we have a story arch developed through many issues like in this case, there just aren't enough character moments and I end up always feeling frustrated by wasted potential.

The final issue came out this week. I'm surprised how the story ended.

Me, too. Franchise crossovers generally don't end like this.

A sequel to this series would be MUCH more interesting now...

A friend of mine asked me on Twitter what I thought the chances of an ongoing "Star Trek: Green Lantern Corps" series would be, and I said that as absolutely fascinating as it would be, the chances of it are pretty much close to 0 due to the various legal rigamarole.

Also, I wonder if the Lanterns came from the pre-New 52 universe.

That would be kind of cool if these Lanterns were the pre-Flashpoint characters.

Also: bonus points for using "rigmarole" in your post!

Just found the entire series for Amazon Kindle. I thought I had to wait until it comes out as a regular Star Trek ongoing volume, but here we go.

It was a good series, as good as a comic can be storywise. The inclusion of Klingons, Romulans and Gorn (yay!) was welcome, ad we got see more of Starfleet (ships and starbases) besides the Enterprise.

Replicating the power ring without years of research and development seems swift, but it was a nice red herring. I expected Kirk to receive a green power ring, or Sulu's turning out to be a white one.

That the surviving Lanterns remain in the alternate reality is the second surprise of the ending, but, unfortunately, I can't see them integrated into the ongoing storyline.

Anyway, can the survivors rebuild their lanterns? I'm only familiar with the Green Lantern universe through the movie and YouTube videos on the matter.

Wouldn't this probably get it's own collection, rather than being part of the ongoing series? I thought it was it's own standalone thing that just used the nu-Trek versions, like the other standalone miniseries used the original TOS characters.

It is getting its own collection. I think it's out in March.

I rather didn't want to wait until March. For me, it was the most anticipated crossover since Alien/Predator.

Also, it's the first time we "see" another Constitution-class ship (apart from any Enterprise, D-A-C and a mention in the Academy novels), and it gets promptly destroyed. Poor Feds!

I just finally got around to reading the last half of the crossover. I am completely astounded they got away with that ending - I'm assuming Bad Robot, Paramount and Warner/DC had to sign-off on that. I'd probably put money on the comics series never touching on the open-endness.

Like other people in this thread, I wonder what was the home DC universe of these Lanterns. Also, they spelled Decker wrong - "Dekker" - must not be the Mad Commodore.

I'll have to get this - I know the DC Universe well so I'll appreciate the story from both sides.

The reviews sound very promising - inter company crossovers can be hit or miss, the Doctor Who one (again I've known Who too for nearly 17 years!) kind of dragged in the middle

The final issue came out this week. I'm surprised how the story ended.

I read the first issue of this crossover when it came out, but waited until I had time to sit down with the whole series to read the rest...

You can add me to the list of people who were surprised at the ending--one all-but-guaranteed to make this an "imaginary" story for every universe in question.

On the whole, I can see why this thread didn't have a tonne of discussion, as the miniseries itself was light on substance. Only the very basics of the Abramsverse characters were used in the story, despite some exterior worldbuilding (which doesn't "matter" anyway, if this is entirely separate from the ongoing comics), and I assume the same is true of the Green Lantern characters. (I wouldn't really know, as my partner is the bigger GL fan and wasn't at all interested in reading this with me.)

The art was good, at least, but this crossover just doesn't have enough going for it to merit a revisit on my part anytime soon...which is a shame, as I'm a sucker for licenced crossovers and have enjoyed the fact that Star Trek is getting more of them these days.
