Star Trek Fashion

pst

Commodore

so last night i was watching an old voyager episode "non sequitur" and my boyfriend walked in the room and immediately pointed out criminal-tom paris' civilian attire. after decades of watching this stuff, i've become impervious to bizarre 23rd and 24th century couture, but having someone point this out to me made me laugh. paris' vest is this hideous multi-colored, speckled thing that made my HD TV strobe (i can only imagine what it did to old tube TVs).

anyway, thought it would be fun to make observations about star trek fashion as we (if you're like me) just spend our days rewatching decades old TV over and over again.

so here's tom's funfetti vest and mustard undershirt ensemble to kick things off:

Although the designs were intended to be futuristic, they were definitely of the era in which they were made.

Okay, edited. (Thanks for the help with the image stuff, guys!)

As a feminist, I'm supposed to hate all of Seven's body suits, but I really like the earth-brown and Sapphire ones on her.

What Kes lacked in a personality she sometimes made up with her funky wardrobe:

And then there's B'Elanna, who has some pretty kickass fashion for such a tomboy...

The only Janeway outfits I really dig are her evil "Living Witness" getup and her Bogart suit:

My inner high school fangirl still enjoys seeing Chakotay in any bad boy getup

Pretty much everyone looked spiffy in "The Killing Game," but these three especially:

And of course the Maquis have the best getups.

And finally, a few alien outfits I sortta dig:

No, I'm done.

We're not allowed to "Hotlink" on this site, and it uploading all of that to a "hosting" site was a pain in the **s. I'm just not gonna post images here anymore.

To be fair, you’re not allowed to hotlink on any site.

It’s stealing bandwidth.

Okay, that's kind of news to me.

Unless I have the definition of "hotlink" wrong (which I well may).
i use imgur. and would love to see what you were talking about.

in any case, i think seven of nine's brown costume from early season 4 (which included the high collar that apparently choked jeri ryan) is my favorite of her many questionable looks.

I always feel like there should be a Hershey logo somewhere on that particular suit.

Trek civilian clothing before the 21st century productions is hideous and impractical. Spandex suits, jumpsuits (Jake) or embarrassed-by-mother sweaters (Wesley; though unabashedly wore this visual insult in 2009’s Vulcan Academy scene).

ok well done with your post.

but kes, man, kes. she was i think the worst offender next to beverly crusher in the skirt/dress over pants/leggings trend of 90s trek.

women in the 24th century apparently don't like to show a lot of leg.

In the 23rd century…

Tastefully be-caped. Gold and silver boots will give this somewhat dour outfit that extra special something.

The functionary on the left is understated and bland, giving way to the outré ensemble befitting any ambassador of high station.

Sorry, I'm still completely confused.

So we can post *links* to images on their direct sites, but we can't use those links to make the images visually appear in our posts?
