I'd imagine that's exactly why they picked it. Sounds contemporary and 'party like' but most people wouldn't recognise it specifically. It's barely remembered in 2017.
I'm fairly certain "Staying Alive" is my personal anthem.I'd imagine that's exactly why they picked it. Sounds contemporary and 'party like' but most people wouldn't recognise it specifically.
It should be the Admirals as well, doubt they would survive any longer though.I'm fairly certain "Staying Alive" is my personal anthem.
6. As time loop episodes go this was pretty disappointing. Tell me a secret you didn't tell anyone else is elementary stuff as plots go.
Lorca is sitting! Is that a sign of weakness?
Time crystals... Groan. Wonder if this will be the new thing in season 2 when they can't use the spore drive anymore.
Nope, I will call it as I like. DISCO.
^ That argument is bunk. It's like trying to defend "reappropriating" the Swastika .
nah - that's not sarcsam - but the other one is b******tYes because that's totally the same thing.
*pause*
That was sarcasm by the way.
Also, why isn't ST:V and ST:E not appropriate? Aside from the fact ST:V is Star Trek V.
I'm fairly certain "Staying Alive" is my personal anthem.
Of course. I'm fairly certain it's a requirement.I for one sing the verse every time I buy a new outfit.
The cringey party scene is a perfect example of what ST does poorly regardless of the era. This was so bad. A few things I picked out:
-The 32 year old actress who plays Tilly acting like a 18 year old cadet "gone wild"
-Tilly looking to pork everything that moved. Cringe.
-The crappy Bee Gees hiphop mashup playing with the shot of the Discovery windows on every time reset instance. Is this the boomer writers' idea of contemporary music? Or just a play on "ST: Disco"?
-Burnham and the guy from the Klingon prison (forget his name) dancing
-I felt they could have come up with a much better plot device to use with Mudd's shenanigans
Cute response, but it was not a child molestation joke, unless you are alleging that both the characters in question are under age or that Spacey molested Rapp, which Rapp has not alleged. It's always too soon for child molesting jokes.

You're probably going to want to find a better hill.Cute response, but it was not a child molestation joke, unless you are alleging that both the characters in question are under age or that Spacey molested Rapp, which Rapp has not alleged.
Amazing song, yes. I love the Bee Gees, and have since I was little. I grew up idolizing them, and listened to all their records (thanks mom!).The Bee Gees had some good stuff... I started a joke... *sigh*
And Saru and Lorca are already up there amongst the best Trek characters ever in my book.
So there's some "Rare groove collector" type person on the ship who'se handling the playlist for the night.Okay, I'll stand for a lot of unrealism in Trek, but out of all the contemporary rap that survived to the 23rd century, they pick Wyclef Jean's cover of Stayin Alive? That makes The Orville's contemporary references seem reasonable. It's barely remembered in 2017.
Vulcan Jazz night will be a big hit.So there's some "Rare groove collector" type person on the ship who'se handling the playlist for the night.
I think of it like this, they have the occasional party, and they might well be themed. For all we can imagine, the previous week was Rigellian tone poem music party and the next one will be 22nd century Death Zydeco.
I hear what you're saying. I do expect that there will be some pop classics around even after a few hundred years. Seeing Picard playing classical music made sense. Even today, that music is centuries old so no reason to expect it to disappear in another few centuries.
But we're talking about young people playing dance music at a party. No way would you go to this tyoe of party today and hear a waltz or The Minuet. Without an explanation it seemed weird.
BTW, I understood rap music being played because just like singers, I do expect rappers to be around centuries from now.
