Star Trek Beyond removed from Ultraviolet?! But we paid for the digital copy....

*I'm in Canada

So I got a new phone last week and reached the stage where I was downloading the digital copies of some movies. When I went to download Beyond it wouldn't let me. When I looked closer there is now a message on the bottom of the film selection saying "Playback Unavailable".

I've emailed Paramount asking for a Google play code to replace it but right now it appears those of us in Canada (at least) may not longer have access to bought and paid for digital copies.

Anyone else in Canada able to check if their UV copy is playable?

Edit: Paramount replied confirming they no longer support flixster and said to connect to another UV supported app. In Canada there is no other currently UV supported app ever since CinemaNow left. I've reiterated my request for a Google Play code.

I got that with some free movies I got. You can usually still download them to watch, just not stream them.

Sorry, that was just about the first thing I had typed in a new phone with a crappy default keyboard.

See, I was under the impression all or most of these digital copies expired at some point.

So I never worried about a DVD or blu-ray having the UV thing and if I wanted a computer based copy, I made one from my physical media.

Vudu supplanted Flixster, but Vudu doesn't work in Canada.

Have you tried Fandangonow?

UltraViolet is dead. Every movie site that supported it has either gone belly up, or has switched (or is in the process of switching), to Movies Anywhere. The problem is that Paramount, MGM, and Lionsgate don't support Movies Anywhere.

FWIW, I stopped buying physical discs and have been buying movies and television shows on Vudu since 2012 with no problems whatsoever.

Did Paramount ever get back to you about a google play code?

Yes. The first time they said too bad. The second time I reached out to them they asked for proof of purchase and then after I sent that they stopped responding. My wife had surgery last week (and two more upcoming in April, which is why iwant the damn digital copy) so I haven't been able to follow up again. I'm hoping to find a phone number

That sucks. I have a copy of Beyond too. I didn't even notice that it's not playable anymore. I purposely buy the more expensive blu-ray for the digital copy.

Really? What a bummer. I was in Canada last November and I ran into my Vudu not working. I didn't know Fandangonow also didn't work in Canada.

Try redeeming on Paramount's UV site.

The UV redemption isn't the problem. I redeemed it December 2016 when I got it. The problem is that Flixster is the only app in Canada that you can actually watch UV films on, and Paramount pulled Beyond from the Flixster service.

I hate to say it, but I think you're out of luck. It seems no one wants to touch UltraViolet anymore if you live in Canada. The best suggestions I saw were related to getting a VPN and routing it through a U.S. server, and I think that's ridiculous just so you can watch movies you purchased. I don't think you have any options, unless someones has pity on the UV community and allows a streaming app to support it in your country.

It's not that Paramount pulled the movie from the Flixster service. It's that the plug was pulled on both UltraViolet and Flixster entirely. IIRC, Flixster shut down entirely last month, and UltraViolet is in the process of shutting down entirely as most of the movie studios switched to Movies Anywhere last year. Movies released after November 2017 no longer offer UltraViolet codes. Unfortunately, that leaves owners of Paramount, MGM, and/or Lionsgate movie titles in the lurch because those three studios have thus far refused to sign up to Movies Anywhere. So, yeah, until and unless Paramount signs up with Movies Anywhere, you're unfortunately screwed.

That's US. Flixster and UV are still operating in Canada. I have 48 different activated UV movies on Flixster - Beyond is the only one unavailable for viewing and it's due to Paramount pulling it. Movies Anywhere is not available in Canada.

Most new purchases from the last year have been both Google Play/Youtube and UV. Like any sane person, I prefer Play/YouTube, but a lot of codes earlier than that were UV only.
