Star Trek 3D Printing

Happenstance

Anyone here do any 3D printing and have made any Star Trek stuff? I only got my 3D printer at the start of the year but I'm getting better with it (painting the damn things not so much!)

Stuff I've done so far:

Does the tricorder fold? Where are you getting the print files?

Yeah the tricorder folds. That one took quite a few attempts to actually get the hinges to work without them snapping.

I get the majority of my files from Thingiverse.com

Yep, done plenty of 3d printing of Star Trek stuff. Loks like you have a plastic/string printer, what machine do you have?
Do you know how to do 3d design? If not I'd recommend learning a program if you want to further your 3d knowledge. I personally know Maya, but a free program like blender would work well, even google sketch up is semi decent at getting some basic stuff done. Just for the ability to correct things you download, and create new things. It really is a great feeling to create something in a 3d program and print it :)
Any questions you have ask away :)

I have a Creatility CR-10S.

I'm slowly working on learning 3D design but I know enough to be able to fix issues with 3D files or split them up for multiple prints. At the moment I use Meshmixer mostly for that.

I have a Creality CR10 (no S), but I'm about to upgrade it to a dual-Z using one drive motor.

I also have a Wanhao Duplicator 7 and an Ender-2, though the Ender hasn't been assembled yet.

My next printer will be an SLA printer that comes in kit form; a Peopoly Moai, but that will need to wait a while.

I'm trying to decide if I should install the new multi-out print head on my CR-10 or wait until I build a DIY printer for that.

Nice work there.

I personally recommend Blender for your own models, although it has a steep learning curve. There is a lot of help on this forum to help you get used to it.

I personally use 3ds Max.

I plan to improve the TWOK ranks I have on Thingiverse. All I really need to do is make them thicker. They're a bit thin right now.
