ST Comics reading order

Hi All

I have found many lists for the reading order of Star Trek novels and have attempted one myself but I have yet to find one for the Star Trek comics.

Is there one out there somewhere?

Does one series relate to another or can they be read separately?

Any hints or links to a reading order would be appreciated.

Cheers

Adam

Each different publisher's comics represent their own separate continuity, sometimes more than one (e.g. IDW's various miniseries don't all share the same continuity). Even DC's first and second volumes are out of continuity with each other. Crossovers are rare and those that exist are usually self-contained miniseries (the one real exception I can think of being Marvel's "Telepathy War" crossover). For the most part, just publication order should be fine, at least within a given series. (Though IDW's various John Byrne miniseries should collectively be counted as a series for those purposes, since they have crossover elements with one another.)

Thanks Christopher. I have started my collection with Boldly Go and Mirror Broken. With this information I will focus on getting discrete series at a time. The Literary Treks podcast has stoked my interest in reading the comics. I never thought of comics as being able to tell stories with depth but the discussions on the podcast opened my thinking a little. I have enjoyed both series so far.

Eventually I would like to collect all of them but I will start with the current series.
Some of the original series look like they use screen shots of the original series. Not sure about those series but the actual comics I'm definitely interested in collecting.

Read them in stardate order. Just kidding.

While the "New Visions" photo comics may at first look a bit odd on the surface, they are by John Byrne, one of the most brilliant names in comics.

If you want to collect all of the earlier pre-IDW comics then I would highly recommend Star Trek: The Complete Comics Collection DVD, it has all of the comics published by Gold Key, Marvel (both the first and second time they had the license), DC, Malibu, and Wildstorm. It also includes a series of comics that were released by Peter Pan Records as companion pieces to a series of story records they did in the mid-to-late 1970s.

I actually just discovered that you can copy the PDFs of the comics, so I've been pulling them off the DVD and reading them on my tablet.

Thanks for that JD. That is a pretty easy way to get all the back issues! Just need to find a retailer that ships to Australia now.
