That's a pretty good theory and I also wouldn't be surprised if that's what they go with. Alternatively, I could see Peter being somehow isolated.in the situation and has to work out a different way of convincing the world that he's not Spider-Man like getting someone else to wear the costume for him. I'm pretty sure that's something that happened in the comics at least once way back in the day (and I think it was Flash who helped him).Would not surprise me if Peter’s secret is disproven by having one of the Skrulls showing Peter and Spidey together at the same time. Obviously the rest of that Daily Bugle story is false, Spider-man is not the villian and did not kill Mysterio. So Peter will need to expose the lie there and the public will be dubious of believing the claim Peter is Spider-man is true as well.
I forgot to bring this up in my own review but my one disappointment with this film was that we never go to see how May adjusted to learning the truth about his alter ego. I understand why they skipped over, both because of how the timeline played out and for the needs of this film's story, but it's still a little disappointing. This is a bigger deal than May learning the secret on a cliffhanger. They could skip over her acceptance of it.
Maybe we'll get some kind of short that covers it, like the Peter's To-Do List short that we're getting.
Oh, right, I always forget about Pat Hingle's Gordon. Probably because his role was so forgettable.Pat Hingle played Commissioner Gordon in all four movies of that same quadrilogy, which would lend credence to them all being in the same continuity. YMMV.

Ah, good point. That's another good example. So it's not quite as unprecedented as I initially thought, but it's still pretty damn cool. However, the James Bond franchise retained Judi Dench as M when they rebooted the franchise with Daniel Craig and Casino Royale.
Yeah, supposedly, but the stylization of everything is so radical that I find it hard to believe. But it's not a big deal. I only care for Batman Returns.Aren't they supposed to be the same dude? Chase references Returns' Catwoman in the third film, and the third and fourth films share an unchanged Robin. And of course Alfred and Gordon.
