Species 8472

Vastator

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
What do people about these entities from Fluidic Space? I personlly quite enjoyed them and the whole war with the Borg as well as that Hirogen encounter were very nice. However, the next Voyager episode that featured them was somewhat horrible and I felt that it destroyed the race. I liked the whole infiltration aspect but the idea of making peace seemed a bit silly to me as they seemed to have been set up as a new menace that rivalled the Borg.

Do any of the novels feature them? I know that Armada 2 ignored the whole peaceful resolution thing and had another war with the Borg and Federation allying to stop this menace.

I have SUCH a good idea for them.

I'd like to see one of them brought aboard as a Liaison / Bridge Officer on the U.S.S. Voyager-A or the U.S.S. Da Vinci (CoE).

Ok, then, I guess since there's not going to be any new CoE books, at least in the next few weeks/months as far as anyone here can discuss due to contract obligations, I'm hoping someone in the pro-writing circuit will mention Species 8472 (or at least give them an actual race-name rather than a numbered Borg catalogue designation for the rest of Trek's existence,) in the other sub-genres in Trek such as "The Captain's Table", "Voyager Relaunch" or "DS9 Relaunch".

Or, failing that, the next author to win the March fan fic challenge will mention Species 8472 as part of their options for the April fan fic Challenge.

Ahh, of the 180 trek books I currently own, I've only read 58, I'm the middle of 8 and I've got 144 to go, that's not even counting the 16 more I want coming out before the end of 2008 or the 70 or so e-books I've yet to catch up on. Needless to say it's going to be quite some time before any fan fiction can even hope to land on my radar, but i do dig some of the fan films being made out there. Have you tried checking on the Star Trek Expanded Universe wiki?

Well, it looks like that wiki is dedicated to fanfiction rather than pro fiction as Memory Beta is. So it's a bit of a pretentious usage, perhaps, but it isn't actually claiming that Trek tie-in fiction follows the rules of SW tie-in fiction. So it could be worse.
