So, who might our "A-List" villain be?

What would you rather have? A disaster movie? A Rudy-type movie? How about a conflict-free movie?

How about Sean Penn?

Or Ozzy?

Or Jackie Chan? (well maybe not him)

or Merve Griffin? (LOL)

Or Drew Cary?

OH I KNOW... Craig Ferguson would be perfect!

How about a crossover with another Paramount property? The Enterprise crew discovers the Event Horizon and find themselves fighting... Hell!!!!!

People,

A-List? How about Sean Connery as the adversary?

Other folks who popped into my head, not all A-List, include:

-Edward James Olmos
-Peter Weller
-Kurtwood Smith
-Djimon Hounsou (rare to see him as a villain nowadays)
-Meryl Streep (How many times do we see women as the main antagonist? And she can do evil, witness "The Devil Wears Prada.")
-Glenn Close (She was great in "Fatal Attraction" and as Cruela DeVil in "101 Dalmations.")
-Matt Damon
-Ben Affleck (Either Damon or Affleck as rogue captains.)
-Donald Sutherland

Your thoughts?

Red Ranger

Oooh, Sean Penn! That'd be sweet! Donald Sutherland sounds like a good idea too.

Too bad Alec Guiness is dead...

Maybe the rumors are garbled and they're trying to get Tom Cruise for the villain, which would both capitalize on his marquee value and mollify the people who've soured on his image! Yeah, I've got nothing.

Let's see the Star Trek Feature Films Rogue Gallery:

*V'Ger
*Khaaaaaaaaaan
*Kruge
*The Probe
*God
*Chang
*Soran
*The Borg Queen
*Ru'afo
*The Picard Clone (what's his name again?)

With the notable exception of V'Ger and The Probe, don't you see a pattern here? Well, I think Dr Evilesque villains have been done to death in Star Trek. I want something else. It looks like as if Trek movies (when they're dealing with villains) are trapped in 80s videogames. Shoot the boss in order to go to the next level.
Trek is more than that.

Morn ..... would be a great vilain.

It should be in Black & White and the first silent movie since the 1920's. That would be a movie

:vulcan:

I would have liked to have seen Kevin Spacey play a Trek villain, but he's doing Superman now so he's out...

I also would have loved Sean Connery as a rogue captain or admiral, but if he won't come out of retirement for Indy IV, he surely wouldn't for a Trek film...

So, let's see...just off the top of my head:

Christopher Walken
Tom Hanks
James Cromwell

Good.

I want Alan Rickman for Big Bad. I don't know that he's their idea of "A-list" though; his name doesn't open movies.

Kirk's Dad played by Shatner in full-on scenery chewing mode. Not so much a villain. More an anti-hero like William Holden in The Wild Bunch. A former Chief of Starfleet gone rogue after the death of his wife. Throw in the traditional enemy race but only for him to rage against.

It would be nice to see an antagonist who's a bit more original than the evil-genius-slightly-insane-selfish-world-destroyer-chip-on-the-shoulder-with-a-hidden-agenda type which describes most of the above.

Someone like Tom Hanks. An anti-villain villain.

Hanks tried to play the baddie in the remake of 'The Ladykillers', but failed to do half as good a job as Sir Alec Guiness did in the classic original. However, Hanks did do a pretty good job as the sometimes sympathetic Hitman in 'Road to Perdition'.

I agree...I would love to see the antagonist played the same way Mark Lenard played the Romulan Commander in TOS: Balance of Terror. Lenard's Romulan was someone with whom we could sympathize, and we could understand his motivation. It was also obvious that Kirk and company felt the same way about him. That was a great episode because of the way the antagonist was portrayed.

Khan (especially in 'Space Seed') bordered on being this kind of antagonist, but he leaned more towards "Just Plain ol' Evil Guy" in TWoK, which I attribute to the madness caused by his exile to Ceti Alpha 6...errrr 5...whichever ;).
