So the planet Kaminar

At the end of season 2 we see Kelpians flying Ba'ul ships. Let's assume they didn't go all homicidal and genocide the Ba'ul but what if the Ba'ul left the planet and became another species we meet in TNG like the Sheliak which is my preferred choice for them as they hide their appearance too somewhat, or a bully race like the Husnok which didn't live long anyway?

I mean they had the misfortune of visiting one planet and got wiped out everywhere with a single thought.

Why do you want ideas to connect and make the galaxy feel smaller?

(Also, it’s KelpiENs, not KelpiANs. This totally unintuitive spelling by whoever came up with it must be preserved for fun and eternity.)

Well, we also have KlingONs rather than KlingANs...

Having two humanoid cultures compete and coexist on a planet doesn't appear like a big deal. We've been doing that a lot here on Earth, pitting very dissimilar cultures against each other and never really facing the danger of the one with extreme genocidal ideas actually carrying them through. The Ba'ul and the Kelpien will probably be at each other's throats for centuries to come - and won't join the Federation any time soon, thus leaving KesPrytt without a handy legal-political precedent!

Maybe some of the fighter pilots were Ba'ul.

The only one confirmed as Kelpien was Siranna (Saru's sister).

And doesn't she say something like "Warriors of Kaminar, prepare for battle"? If there were only Kelpiens on those fighters, she would have said so.

...However, there's only one other culture that is known to utilize objects of the exact shape of these Ba'ul "pylons", and not all that different from their "sentry ships" and "fighters", either. :vulcan:

So which came first? Did the Ba'ul inherit or scavenge Preserver tech, or did they spread it to the stars? The Feds seem to think the Ba'ul gained warp no earlier than 2237 or thereabouts, but what do they know? The whole claim may have been made to justify contact and other meddling at that specific timepoint; we know of no preceding observation of the culture, and we have reason to think the Ba'ul would not travel abroad much even if they did have warp in, say, 1737 already. Or if they did, that they would advertise the fact much. Now, it may be a complete coincidence that Ba'ul and Preserver writing look so much alike. But then again, it might not be.

Of course, the connecting factor could simply be that both the assorted North American folks and the Ba'ul got Preserver assistance during a time of genocidal-existential crisis. Only the latter were able to truly benefit from the technology they gained access to, though...
