Should there ever be a Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot/remake?

Should there ever be a Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot/remake? There was a Charmed remake and there has been new Buffy comics. I'm wondering people's opinions.

I would rather they not, simply because I wouldn't want to see it done without Joss Whedon and nobody should be giving him work.

Should there be? No. Let it remain a popular show from yesterday, a revival could only hope to be an imitation anyway.
Will there be? Probably. It was a popular show and someone's going to try to recapture the magic at some point.

I don't know, part of what made Buffy work was the creative team, and with out that same team I just don't know if would work as well.

The 1997-2003 television series could be considered a reboot/remake.

That's a good point, since the movie came out first. Even though "some version of the movie's events" still happened in the TV continuity, there still quite a lot different from the show compared to the movie.

If the ever do make a remake it could be nice if Willow was lesbian from the start in my opinion. Dark Willow was my favourite character

I think a continuation could be possible. A new slayer. Buffy could make an appearance here and there like a mentor or something.

Wasn't Dark Willow a cool villain?

The movie was just not that great, though. What made the series surpass the movie was the characters, the actors, and the writing. It would be difficult to strike gold like that again.

That said, I love the universe--and I love the way it was constructed. I know that Wheadon will never be allowed back in again (with good reason), but for a sequel series to be successful it would need to have a show runner who can tap into that ephemeral element that Wheadon had.

That would be my preference. The mythos of the show lends itself to that, though I wonder how they’d deal with the fact that the series finale created umpteen slayers, as opposed to one in a generation.

I think it depends if there new slayers, all the potentials who became slayers are all in their 30's and 40's, a lot of them could be killed or retired. Are there going to be new younger slayers?

I would rather they give it a shot as long as they can do it without Whedon simply because it would be great to get the franchise out from under Whedon's shadow entirely.

He's not the only person in the world capable of writing fun, punchy dialogue and heartfelt characters. And half of what worked from the show, if not more, came from other people who could still be brought back. In all honesty, I'm no longer even entirely certain Whedon's contributions to the show actually all came from him anyway.

Well this is just me personally, but while I have lost all respect for Joss Whedon personally, I still respect the fact that Buffy is his creation and believe that it should remain so. Same with Firefly.

Yeah, as much of an asshole as he is personally, I do think he was a big part of what made those shows so great.
