SG1: "Fragile Balance" - aftermath?

Ptrope

Agitator
Admiral
I really liked this episode, if for no other reason than Michael Welch played O'Neill perfectly. This episode alone was one reason I was disappointed that the series ended - it was a fantastic opportunity for a follow-up.

However...

There are some potentially disturbing aspects to the end of the episode. Young O'Neill (let's cal him Johnny) is now apparently living on his own, with an Air Force pension (I don't see him being placed with a family just for appearances' sake), and he's got his full set of 50-year-old memories in a teenage boy's body, with a teenage boy's hormones, surrounded by teenage girls. In fact, his 'wolf amongst sheep' situation is alluded to in the final scene, as Jack notices all the nubile young ladies and ushers his younger self out to mingle with the herd, and we see him immediately strike up a conversation with one of his prey before the credits roll.

Something tells me, though, that before long, Johnny would be hitting on the teachers, instead - something the Air Force might not take any more of a shine to. And what about the boredom? He's been in deepest space, saved the planet numerous times, and still doesn't have the hang of algebra and physics.

With just one more season, it would've been fun to see Johnny's situation addressed, and maybe they could bring him back into the SGC on another team - it would've been fun to see him hitting on Carter . And they could've used him with the other young recruits we saw. I just think leaving him in high school was a recipe for all sorts of trouble, which would've been great for a new story.

If I remember correctly, the next SG-1 movie is supposed to revolve heavily around O'Neill. If that ever gets off the ground, maybe it'd include the clone. I agree that it was a missed opportunity not to revisit that situation at least once, particularly since joining the SGC feels like a natural inclination for the clone with all of O'Neill's memories. I'd be amused to see an SG team with the clone coming to General O'Neill's rescue off-world. He'd just love that, I'm sure.

Neat thing is, when he grows up, he can join the military and get involved in the Stargate program and take over his old position lol, he'd be a pro at leading SG teams

When word come out that the next SG-1 movie was going to be O'Neill centered, someone asked Joe Mallozzi on his blog if it was going to include the clone and he said no.

I would really love to see what this kid is up to.

I've never been able to decide if bringing the clone back would have been awesome, or simply damaged the legacy of the first episode. It would have to be a story that actually made sense rather than just having the clone there for no reason. And bringing him back would shine a spotlight on some of the things mentioned in the OP - the slight creepiness of a 50-year-old man hiding out in a high school.

Replace the young actor with with a newer 20 something popular actor and then put him on Stargate Universe. That would be cool to see a young (but very expereinced O'neill) take command of Destiny but the crew will have a hard time following him because they see him as a young adult. Could work
