A decade after the original film’s release, a sequel to the critically acclaimed cult sci-fi film The Man From Earth is in the works, with Vanessa Williams, Sterling Knight, Brittany Curran, Carlos Knight, and Akemi Look joining the cast. To be titled The Man From Earth: Holocene, the film sees the return of David Lee Smith in the lead role, and William Katt. The Man From Earth director Richard Schenkman is returning as well, with shooting set to begin in June and release scheduled TBD 2017.

Interesting. I only saw the first about 1 or 2 years ago. There were reports I discovered of plans for tv series. Which seemed to not be a sequel to the movie at all. I am glad they are doing a straight up sequel instead.

Well this is pretty cool to hear. The first was a nice sort of twilight zone-ish story with characters just talking the entire movie and exploring a concept. It could have been a stage play, I liked it. I'll definitely watch the sequel.

It also holds the distinction of the worst made Bluray I own - they didn't even include a menu screen. For movie that has enough interest to make a sequel, they sure didn't put any effort into that bluray release or maybe ran out of budget.

I loved the first movie and don't really consider it a "B" movie. It's in my top 10 films of the 2000s.

Where do you find these scifi B movies?

Keeping my eyes glued the interweb feeds. :techman: I find movies likes this and the occasional diamond in the rough like Kill Command more interesting than most of the blockbusters.

The first one is fantastic, and I own it on DVD. It would be nice to see the idea explored further. I look forward to this.

It's a good movie. I knew it because of it's heavy connection to Star Trek. So much so that I almost consider it an episode of Trek.

The movie was written by Jerome Bixby who also wrote many TOS episodes such as "Mirror, Mirror" and "Requiem for Methuselah". In fact the inspiration for Man from Earth came when Bixby wrote Requiem for Methuselah, which also featured a centuries old human being.

The Man from Earth also features several actors who have played many significant characters in Star Trek. There's John Billingsley (ENT: Doctor Phlox), Tony Todd (TNG and DS9: Worf's brother Kurn, DS9: Old Jake Sisko in "The Visitor". Todd is also currently the voice of Zoom in CW's The Flash), Richard Riehle (TNG: Picard's friend Batai in "The Inner Light", and several other roles in VOY and ENT).

How so? Not many details besides the cast and title,

Is Jerome Bixby writing it?

The premise of the first film was that John had to move on because he doesn't age. So, now they're making a film where he'll look term years older? That makes sense.

A little bit of makeup and no one will notice, I mean it worked for Data.

I found this movie through a former friend. I'm skeptical about a sequel.

The reason the sequel is being made, but the DVD sucks, is because doing a menu screen for the release cost money. The first movie has to be dirt cheap to make, it takes place in one room. AirBnB a place for a weekend and boom you made a movie. I'm curious to how a sequel will be.

It is too bad Jerome Bixby isn't around anymore, but they already won my over with the first one. There are certainly plenty of directions to go with this story.

As a long-time fan of Trek and Highlander, I really enjoyed 'The Man from Earth', and I also enjoyed the twist at the ending that lent legitimacy to Oldman's story.

Although Oldman's origins (as he tells them) are different from Flint's in 'Requiem for Methuseleh,' I still like to think of them as the same character seen at different points in time. Although the Oldman of the movie seems a lot more cerebral and less volatile than Micah Brack and his willingness to go to fist city with Captain Kirk.

What I'm not really getting here is the point of a sequel. The Man from Earth is really a self-contained story in the best tradition of the Twilight Zone. Unlike the immortals of Highlander, Oldman can (and does) have children and apparently could be killed normally. Other than the fact that he doesn't age, he doesn't have any special abilities or superpowers. So are they going to try and alter that premise and make some sort of hero out of him, or simply do some form of re-hash of the original as he says goodbye to yet another group of friends as he prepares to move on yet again ten more years later? Either way, I'm a bit skeptical about the idea of a sequel here. However, if they do it I'll probably give it a whirl for curiosity's sake.
